Festival start: 17 November 2026      Festival end: 18 November 2026

The Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, Rivers State University, will host the inaugural Rivers State University Film Festival and Media Conference 2026, scheduled for November 17–18, 2026. This hybrid academic and industry event will bring together film and media scholars, practitioners, content creators, Nollywood stars, industry professionals, and emerging talents to examine how cinema advances and reshapes narratives about the Niger Delta region of Nigeria through the lens of Rivers State University.

The festival theme, "Framing the Delta: Beyond Crisis Narratives to Plural Realities", directly addresses how media representation shapes public perception. By centering film as a medium of socialization and critical discourse, the festival will redirect deficit-based narratives that have historically marginalized the Niger Delta, while also showcasing the region's cultural richness, economic potential, and diverse realities.
