The second annual Syros International Film Festival will be held from July 26 – August 1 2014 on the island Syros, Greece, drawing on recent Greek and international films. SIFF is committed to showing films underrepresented in mainstream festivals, to promoting Greek and regional film within an international context, and to creating a new space for film in Greece. In addition, SIFF highlights Syros’ capital, Hermoupolis, using various spaces around the town for screenings and collaborating with different local groups. Join us!

SIFF awards consist of an award and monetary sum. Awarded films will also be screened at the end of the festival.

1. SIFF 2014, the second edition of the festival, will take place from July 26- August 1 2014.

2. SIFF is committed to showing films underrepresented in mainstream festivals, to promoting Greek and regional film within an international context, and to creating a new space for film in Greece.

3. The festival selection committee is looking for films created with originality, thought and a passion for storytelling.

4. The deadline for entries is April 15th 2014.

5. Entries must be submitted though festhome.com or through SIFF’s online submission link.

6. HOW TO ENTER A FILM:
- A filled online application form
- A version of the film with English subtitles, exception to be made for English spoken films.

7. The selection committee will decide the section in which the film will be programmed. The festival is responsible for the selection of the films that compose the entire program.

8. Short and feature length films can compete, with the following projection formats: 35mm, 16mm, DCP, Files (mp4 H264/ Apple ProRes – bitrate <50mbps). At the festival, all the selected films selected will be screened with English subtitles and when possible with Greek electronic subtitles.

9. SIFF 2014 has two competition sections:
1) REGIONAL SHORTS
a competitive section for short films made in Greece, the Balkans, and Turkey by emerging filmmakers. Films must run no more than 30 minutes and have been completed in the years 2013 - 2014.
2) NEW TALENT
a competitive section for the first feature film signed by a director from any country. This award applies to any selected film.

11. After being confirmed as festival selection, send to submissions@syrosfilmfestival.org:
- A script of the dialogued continuity of the films in English
- Three digital photos from the film (minimum resolution: 300 dpi - 10x10cm)
- Short bio of the director
- Final Synopsis for the program (450 characters) and for the catalogue (600 characters)
- Previous Festivals and Awards.

Until June 15th, the copy of the selected film (in the right screening format) as well as posters, postcards and promotional materials should be sent to:

12. The costs related to sending the copy to Greece will be borne by the participant. The costs of clearing the film through customs as well as the costs associated with returning the films to their country of origin will be borne by the festival.

13. When the festival is responsible for transportation of a film, transportation insurance will be granted. After receiving the copies of the films, the festival is responsible for them until they are sent back. This insurance is not applicable to negatives, positives or masters.

14. All films screened in competitive sections during the festival must remain there until its ending, and will be returned only after the closing ceremony of the festival.

15. The competition juries will comprise nationally and internationally renowned Greek and foreign figures.

16. SIFF awards consist of an award and monetary sum. Awarded films will also be screened at the end of the festival.

17. The decisions of the juries are final.

18. Any selected film may be shown in special screenings for schools during the festival.

19. After the film has been selected, the festival may use a fragment of up to two minutes of the film for promotion of the festival on tv, radio, internet, as well as the publicity material of the film (press kit, posters, postcards, etc.) for promotion purposes also.

20. SIFF guests are not covered by the insurance of the festival.

21. The producer of a film that is awarded a prize at SIFF will undertake to mention the SIFF prize in all promotional materials for the film and in the film credits of all copies that are produced after the festival dates.

22. All entries of films made to SIFF presuppose knowledge of and acceptance of these regulations.

23. The festival board will decide upon all matters that are not covered by these regulations in accordance with the international rules of film festivals.
