Transylvania Cinema Awards is a film competition with two seasonal events, reuniting cinema enthousiasts in the heart of Transylvania, Romania. The goal is to design a space where innovation and creativity fusion in order to deliver the best result to a new public.
We create an opportunity for filmmakers to get their films judged and let them compete with other filmmakers. We perform a comprehensive evaluation process and the jury of film professionals will only select high quality films. The festival will welcome all genres of films from all over the world. We expect to receive films with courage, unique voices and messages and a strong personal mark.
The competition is structured on two seasons, winter and summer, with an official screening event per each season. The best films from each category will be screened on the most beautiful venue of Targu Mures, a charming old city in Transylvania, Cinema Arta, a place with longstanding tradition for film lovers.
Cinema Arta has 3 screening rooms with a total of 340 seat capacity. Films can be screened in 2D/3D/DCI with Dolby Digital Sound.
For filmmakers who want to attend the January event, the cinema is located in P-ta Trandafirilor nr. 35-37, Targu Mures, jud. Mures, 540049, Romania. For event tickets and bookings please contact us in advance.
The deadline for entries in the next autumn season is 1 September 2018 and the Official Screening will be held on 5-7 October 2018. Winners will be notified and published on the official site and social media pages of the festival after the screenings.
Awards
There are 6 nominations for ‘Transylvania Cinema Award’, per short, featurette and feature films and 3 nominations for each of the ‘Category/Individual’ Awards.
TRANSYLVANIA CINEMA AWARD, Best Short-Film, Featurette, Feature Film and the Audience Award will each receive a TCA Custom Trophy along with Professional Film Review and Award Certificates.
All category/individual winners and nominees will receive Award Certificates along with TCA Laurels stating their performance in the festival.

Submission information
We prefer online screeners, digital copies, or a link to an online video (such as YouTube or Vimeo). Please include a valid password if required. We will not accept films with poor quality standard(lack of sound quality, absence of subtitles/captions for non-English films, video resolution less than 720p HD)
Films selected for the Official Screening will need to provide download link or a full quality 1080p/DCP file/35mm/Blu-ray/DVD no later than 1 week prior to the festival screening.
You are entitled to a maximum amount of two entries per edition . Each must be submitted with its own entry form and fee. The entry will be considered eligible in the next edition only if the film was not awarded in the previous one.
Entry fee is non-refundable.
Titles produced in languages other than English must have legible English subtitles. ALL films selected for the Official Screening will need to provide English subtitles no later than 1 week prior to the festival screening.
The selection committees’ and juries’ decisions are final.
Transylvania Cinema Awards reserves the right to make any necessary changes in regulations or festival scheduling.
Filmmaker agrees that films entered into the festival may be selected for screening at the festival and may also be screened in other media in association with the promotion of the film festival.
Film Length:
Feature - Any narrative film between 60 minutes and 180 minutes length
Featurette - Any narrative film up between 35 and 60 minutes length.
Short - Any narrative film 35 minutes and less
Films selected in the festival will be notified no later than mid September 2018
Terms and conditions
Festival does not deal with any copyright issues. All copyright issues should be resolved by the film authors.
Filmmakers and screenwriters retain 100% all of the rights to their projects and materials that they submit to Transylvania Cinema Awards.
Submitter grants the festival the right to screen his film if selected in the Official Selection. If selected by the Festival, filmmakers grant the festival the right to have elements used for promotional purposes for the Festival, and/or its partners and submitter grants the rights to use captions, photographic stills and/or titles and information from the film for promotional purposes.
FILM REVIEW
Transylvania Cinema Awards aims to enhance the potential of completed art works of generating even better new projects. Through the expertise of our film specialists, we offer filmmakers the possibility to receive a detailed feedback on their film. The film review will be promoted through our official platform and social media channels, helping your work reach a larger public. The price for the professional film review is $39,99, which includes the entry fee to Transylvania Cinema Awards Official Competition.
SCREENPLAY COMPETITION
Transylvania Cinema Awards runs a screenplay competition twice a year, parallel with the Official Film Competition. Available exclusively through FilmFreeway, we welcome screenplays of any genre, up to 120 pages. The entry fee to the screenplay competition is $24,99. We also offer the option to receive a professional review on your screenplay by our specialists for the price of $49,99, entry fee to the competion included.
There will be quarter finalists, semifinalists and finalists out of which a winner, a runner-up and a second runner-up will be designated. The winner will receive a cash price, an award certificate and our custom Transylvania Cinema Awards Trophy.
