Violeta Film Fest (VFF) is an international film festival "Powerful Stories, Transformative Realities", aims to make visible women, men, LGBTIQ+ people who generate film productions and organizations that in their programs develop actions for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and document these actions with film productions. Films that lead to the transformation of society from 4 categories:
Cinema Made by Women, Cinema made by Men for Women & Elles, Cinema Made by Elles, Cinema made by organizations in action for equity, diversity and inclusion.
1- The best 4 films of the festival will be screened throughout 2025 on the Colombian TV channel “Canal Trece”.
2- The crew of the 4 best films will have interviews in Canal Trece (in person or virtual), in charge of screening these interviews in different TV programs of the channel.
Violeta Film Fest Awards - Violeta Film Fest Awards - will be given to filmmakers who are generating cinematographic developments in favor of the reduction of gaps.

3rd INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL - VIOLETA FILM FEST (VFF)

DESCRIPTION
The Violeta Film Fest (VFF) is an international film festival with the theme "Powerful Stories, Transformative Realities".
The festival will feature screenings in Bogotá, Colombia, at the Cinemateca de Bogotá—one of the best cinema venues in Colombia—, as well as at five universities in Bogotá. Additionally, selected films will be broadcast on Canal Trece—a national television channel in Colombia—, streamed on its digital platform, and available on the Mujeres Violeta streaming platform.
To be screened, selected films must have prior authorization from filmmakers for in-person and digital screenings.
The festival features four categories:
- Films Made by Women
- Films Made by Men for Women
- Films Made by Non-Binary and LGBTQ+ Creators
- Films Created by Organizations Documenting Their Actions for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
The narratives should reflect actions that society must take to drive transformation regarding diversity, equity, and inclusion.
The festival accepts short films in any language, as long as they include Spanish subtitles.
FESTIVAL DATES
- Call for Entries Opens: March 8, 2025
- Submission deadline: May 7, 2025 (11:59:59 PM Colombia Time, BGT)
- Selection Notifications: July 10, 2025
By submitting and being selected, participants agree to send authorization for use and reproduction, promotional materials, and screening copies of the films in the required formats and within the given deadlines.
Selected films must be in Spanish or have Spanish subtitles to be screened in theaters. Films chosen for the Mujeres Violeta streaming platform may have subtitles in Spanish or english.
Submission does not guarantee selection. Projects will only be accepted after the Festival Curatorial Committee has reviewed and approved them.
Once selected, filmmakers will have access to screenings, academic activities, social media promotion, and streaming opportunities through Mujeres Violeta and other festival platforms.
FOUR OFFICIAL CATEGORIES
All sections will be curated by a committee of international filmmakers and cinephiles who focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Curatorial Committee reserves the right to reassign films to different categories if deemed appropriate.
1. FILMS MADE BY WOMEN
Short films (documentary, fiction, animation, or experimental) from any nationality that have been developed under female leadership, focusing on diversity, equity, and inclusion. Directed and/or written by women. Must be in Spanish or have Spanish subtitles.
2. FILMS MADE BY MEN FOR WOMEN AND NON-BINARY PEOPLE
Short films (documentary, fiction, animation, or experimental) from any nationality created under male leadership (creative development and production) that include female and/or LGBTQ+ characters and focus on themes of women's empowerment, closing gender gaps, diversity, inclusion, and equity. Directed and/or written by men. Must be in Spanish or have Spanish subtitles.
3. FILMS MADE BY NON-BINARY AND LGBTQ+ CREATORS
Short films (documentary, fiction, animation, or experimental) from any nationality that reflect diverse and inclusive narratives and have been directed and/or written by **LGBTQ+ individuals**. Must be in Spanish or have Spanish subtitles.
4. ORGANIZATIONS IN ACTION FOR EQUALITY, DIVERSITY, AND INCLUSION
Short films (documentary, fiction, animation, or experimental) from any nationality that document actions taken by organizations to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion through audiovisual media. Must be in Spanish or have Spanish subtitles.
RULES & REGULATIONS
Submitting to this festival constitutes a binding agreement. Anyone submitting a film to the Violeta Film Fest through this platform agrees to the terms stated in this call.
By submitting, participants acknowledge that the contract is legally binding, in accordance with Article 1602 of the Colombian Civil Code, as well as the laws and regulations governing cinematographic activities (Law 397 of 1997, Law 814 of 2003, Decree 1080 of 2015, and Resolution 1021 of 2016).
GENERAL CONDITIONS
All sections must comply with the following general rules:
- Films must be short films between 7 and 29 minutes long.
- Only fiction, documentary, animation, and experimental films will be considered.
- The Curatorial Committee** has full discretion to reassign films to categories that best align with their themes.
- Films must be submitted in one of the following projection formats: DCP, Apple ProRes, or H.264 Full HD 1920 x 1080 or higher.
- Only films produced and/or premiered between 2024 and 2025 will be considered.
- Films in languages other than Spanish must include Spanish subtitles.
- Submissions must be made via Festhome (www.festhome.com).
- After the submission deadline, the Curatorial Committee may invite additional films to participate in the festival, even if they were not submitted via Festhome.
