The FICX, GIJÓN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL, aims to showcase a wide variety of selected auteur cinema that is being produced today worldwide. High quality cinema, personal, young in its shape, edgy and independent at a creative level. The festival will prioritize during its selection process those works of interest that have their World, International or European premiere at FICX.

Acknowledged as “Specialized Festival” by the FIAPF (International Federation of Film Producers Association)

A. INTERNATIONAL JURY. FEATURE FILMS OFFICIAL SECTION
An International Jury composed of prominent professionals from the film Industry and the culture sector will award the following prizes:

- “PRINCIPADO DE ASTURIAS” Prize for Best Feature, with 20.000 € to be awarded to the company that registered and/or confirmed the film’s selection at the 57th Gijón International Film Festival. An additional 10.000 € prize will be awarded to the Spanish distributor that acquires the right to the winning film, as long as its commercial premiere takes place within twelve months after the closing ceremony of the 57th FICX.
* In case the Spanish distributor company is the one that registered or confirmed the film’s selection at the 57th FICX, both cash prizes will be accumulated and will go to that company.
- "BEST DIRECTOR” prize
- AISGE prize for “BEST ACTRESS"
- AISGE prize for "BEST ACTOR"
- "BEST SCRIPT" prize
- "BEST CINEMATOGRAPHY" prize.
- Gil Parrondo prize for "BEST ART DIRECTION".

* The INTERNATIONAL JURY can award a SPECIAL PRIZE, without economic allocation, to the film that, due to its unique character within the Official Section, is deserving of this distinction, equivalent to an HONORARY MENTION.
** All prizes, except the SPECIAL PRIZE, must be awarded and in no case can any of them be declared void.

B. INTERNATIONAL JURY. SHORT FILMS OFFICIAL SECTION
An International Jury composed of prominent professionals from the film Industry and the culture sector will award the following prizes:

- “PRINCIPADO DE ASTURIAS” Prize for the Best Short Film, endowed with 3.000 € to be awarded to the company or natural or legal person that registered and/or confirmed the film’s selection at the 57th Gijón International Film Festival.
This prize includes the possibility to be preselected for the Oscar® / U.S. Academy Awards and for the Goya® / Spanish Academy Awards.

C. YOUNG JURY. OFFICIAL SECTION
A Jury made up of young people, aged 17 - 25 years old, will award the following prizes:
- YOUTH JURY PRIZE for the Best Feature Film of the Official Section.
- YOUTH JURY PRIZE for the Best Short Film of the Official Section.

D. RELLUMES INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION
An official FIPRESCI Jury, formed by three federated international film critics will award the following prizes:
- BEST FEATURE FILM Prize of the Rellumes International Competition, 10,000 € to be awarded to the company that registered and/or confirmed the film’s selection at the 57th Gijón International Film Festival.
- BEST DIRECTOR Prize of the Rellumes International Competition consisting of 3,000 € to be awarded to the winner director.

E. ENFANTS TERRIBLES AWARD
The Enfants Terribles Prize will be voted by the children and youth audiences attending the screenings for scholars programmed by the Gijón International Film Festival. 5,000 € will be awarded to the International or national distribution/production company that registered and/or confirmed the film’s selection at the 57th Gijón International Film Festival.

F. GRAND AUDIENCE PRIZE
A cross-section competition where all feature films (of no less than 45 minutes of duration) are eligible as long as these hold their Spanish premiere in the following sections: OFFICIAL SECTION, RELLUMES, ESBILLA or LLENDES. A prize endowed with 5,000 € for the company that registered and/or confirmed the film’s selection at the 57th Gijón International Film Festival. These prizes will be decided by the votes of the audience attending the screenings.
F.1. BEST EUROPEAN FIRST FILM
An additional prize will be awarded by the votes of the public for the Best European First Film (co)produced in an European Country (following the criteria of the Creative Europe Media Programme).

G. BEST SPANISH FILM AWARD AND ‘ALMA’ AWARD FOR THE BEST SCRIPT OF A SPANISH FEATURE FILM
A cross-section competition where a selection of Spanish feature films – including co-productions- and/or films directed by Spanish filmmakers, holding their Spanish premiere at the 57th FICX (OFFICIAL SECTION, RELLUMES, ESBILLA or LLENDES).
A Jury composed of prominent professionals from the film Industry and the culture sector will decide the following prizes:
• BEST SPANISH FILM PRIZE, awarded with 5,000 €, to the company that registered and/or confirmed the film’s selection at the 57h Gijón International Film Festival.
• 'ALMA’ AWARD FOR BEST SCRIPT, supported by ALMA, Asociación de Autores Literarios de Medios Audiovisuales de España, to which are eligible the films competing within the category described above.

The company RCservice offers the director of the film awarded with the BEST SPANISH FILM PRIZE of the 57th Gijón International Film Festival an additional prize consisting of services and/or equipment rentals for a total value of up to 3,000 €, to be used in his/her next project. The director will be able to yield the prize to his/her next film’s production company, or even more specifically, to the cinematographer.
The beneficiary, be it a company or person, will have the right to choose the preferred services from the catalogue of RCservice upon availability of the requested technical equipment. This prize must be used within 12 months from the FICX’s closing ceremony which will be held on November 23, 2019.

Additionally, the jury for the Best Spanish Film Award will award the DELUXE DCP AWARD to one of the films competing within this category, consisting in the DCP Mastering – a service valued at 6,000€ - by DELUXE, of the next feature made by the director.

H. RTPA BEST ASTURIAN FEATURE FILM AWARD
Cross-section competition where all feature films of Asturian* production are eligible as long as these are selected in the following sections: OFFICIAL SECTION, RELLUMES, ESBILLA or LLENDES. This award is sponsored by the Radio Television of the Principality of Asturias (RTPA) and consists in a cash prize of 2,000 € to be awarded to the company that registered and/or confirmed the film’s selection at the 57h Gijón International Film Festival.
A specific jury, composed by a Radio Television of the Principality of Asturias (RTPA) representative and two professionals from the film Industry and the Culture sector, will decide the winner of this award.

I. DÍA D’ASTURIES AWARD
A specific jury, composed by a Radio Television of the Principality of Asturias (RTPA) representative and two professionals from the film Industry and the Culture sector, will decide the winner of the BEST SHORT FILM AWARD of the DÍA D’ASTURIES SECTION, consisting of a 2,000 € prize. Specific regulations and application form for this section are available at www.gijonfilmfestival.com

I.1. LABORAL CINEMATECA SHORT FILM AWARD
Laboral Cinemateca will award the following prize to one of the short films selected in the Día d’Asturies section: LABORAL CINEMATECA SHORT FILM AWARD consisting of the distribution of the winning short film at festivals and prominent audiovisual events, both national and international. Moreover, the short film will be included in the database of Asturian short films, open to all filmmakers and producers from Asturias.

*Films will be considered as Asturian productions whenever they have been produced or directed by professionals of Asturian origin and/or resident in the region // **It will be compulsory for the winner in this category to include the logo of the RTPA BEST ASTURIAN FEATURE FILM AWARD at the 57th FICX in the initial or ending credits of the film as stated in the specific regulations of this prize which can be found in www.gijonfilmfestival.com

J. DELUXE DCP AWARD - PUSH PLAY / FICX INDUSTRY DAYS
Within its programme of activities for film professionals (FICX Industry Days), the FICX will include in its 57th edition a session to present works-in-progress (in pre-editing, editing or post-production stage). DELUXE Spain joins again this initiative and will award one of the projects with a prize consisting in the DCP Mastering of the film – a service valued at 6,000€ - by DELUXE once it's finished


ASSIGNATION OF THE PRIZES
> Cash prizes of the Official Section, Rellumes International Competition and Enfants Terribles are accumulative to the ones assigned to the cross-categories Grand Audience Award, Best European Fim Award and Best Spanish Film Award. All cross-section prizes can be awarded to the same film.
> In all cases, withholding taxes and other expenses that may be incurred upon delivery of the prize money will be deducted from them, so that the final amount will vary depending on the conditions set out by each country and how payment is made.


It is compulsory and inexcusable for ALL FILMS THAT HAVE WON A CASH PRIZE to mention the award received at the Gijón International Film Festival (FICX) in all the publicity and promotional graphic materials of the film, as well as in the credits of all the copies/prints released in Spain for theatrical exhibition as well as home formats (DVD, BluRay, etc.) and other platforms.

57th GIJÓN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL FOR YOUNG PEOPLE November 15-23, 2019.

1.- The GIJÓN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL (FICX), aims to showcase a wide variety of selected auteur cinema that is being produced today worldwide. High quality cinema, personal, young in its shape, edgy and independent at a creative level. The Festival will prioritize during its selection process those works of interest that have their World, International or European premiere at FICX.


2.- THE 57th GIJÓN INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL will take place November 15-23, 2019.


3.- SECTIONS:

A. OFFICIAL SECTION
A selection of feature films (no less than 45 minutes of length) and short films (no more than 30 minutes of length) produced after January 1st 2018. Contemporary auteur cinema, looking for a suitable balance between prestigious authors and young talents. The works chosen to compete in both categories of the Official Section – feature films and short films - may not be exhibited publicly in Spain before their projection at FICX.

B. RELLUMES INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION
An international competition where special attention is given to emerging filmmakers, fostering audacious proposals within the audio-visual panorama, including innovative works in the fields of documentary and non-fiction. Feature films of no less than 45 minutes of length, produced after January 1st 2018, can participate. Films selected to compete in this section may not be exhibited publicly in Spain before their projection at FICX.

C. ENFANTS TERRIBLES COMPETITION
Specific competition oriented towards the younger audiences (scholars) of the Festival. Feature films of no less than 45 minutes of length, produced after January 1st 2018, can participate. Films selected to compete in this section may not be exhibited publicly in Spain before their projection at FICX.

D. LLENDES
Daring proposals where the line between fiction and non-fiction gets blurry. Works that explore the limits of the cinematic language. The selection is made of features, mid-length and short films.

E. ESBILLA
Selection of the most prominent titles of the year’s international scene, with new films – mostly special premieres - added due to their formal or thematic value.

F. FICX / LABORAL CINEMATECA
Coproduced by Laboral Cinemateca, this film season consists of a selection of modern classics and historical cinema jewels – all screened in their original 35mm format, featuring presentations and events with special guests.

G. DÍA D’ASTURIES
A wide selection of short films made in Asturias and/or by producers or filmmakers from Asturias, and produced after January 1st 2018. The specific regulations and application form for this section are available at www.gijonfilmfestival.com

H. FOCUS, SEASONS, RETROSPECTIVES, COLLABORATIONS, SPECIAL SCREENINGS AND FILM EVENTS
The 57th FICX enhances its programme with the presentation of several FOCUS and RETROSPECTIVES dedicated to the works of renowned filmmakers as well as emerging talents from the national and international scene. Furthermore, the FICX includes in its programming a space to hold SEASONS and COLLABORATIONS defined by thematic or geographic criteria, whose selection, much like the FOCUS and RETROSPECTIVES, is made through a curatorial process where both feature and short films may be considered. This category also includes the SPANISH SHORT FILM NIGHT (NOCHE DEL CORTO ESPAÑOL) showcasing a fine selection of the best shorts made in Spain during 2019, along with new sections CROSSROADS-ZINEMALDIA|FICX, in collaboration with San Sebastian International Film Festival, RADIO 3 PRESENTS… in partnership with Radio 3, SPECIAL SCREENINGS in which recent works from prominent filmmakers will be shown with a complementary Q&A and / or discussion after the projection, and SPECIAL EVENTS like THE NAMELESS NIGHT (LA NOCHE INNOMBRABLE).


4.- PARTICIPATION

Feature, mid-length and short films may be submitted online at https://festhome.com/f/ficx, following the specified conditions in the Festival’s website.
Registration must be made complying with the following deadlines:
1. Enfants Terribles section: before August 23rd 2019.
2. Feature Films for all other sections: before September 13th 2019.
3. Short Films(*): Early bird: September 13th. 2019. Late entries: September 20ths. 2019.
(*)Except works registered for the Día d’Asturies section, which will be subject to a separate call-for-entries with independent regulations (and deadlines) which will be published on the Festival’s website in due date.



5.- CONDITIONS FOR SELECTED FILMS
a) Once the film has been selected for participation and confirmed by its exhibition rights holder, it cannot be withdrawn nor can it be presented in Spain before its public screening in Gijón.
b) The Festival will decide the date, place and order of exhibition for each film.
c) The FICX is committed not to screen each title more than five times during the dates of the Festival, according to FIAPF’s International regulations.
d) The Festival will cover the films’ insurance from the moment of the delivery to the carrier until its return to the participant. As stated in article 10 of FIAPF’s rules.
Any claim regarding the condition of prints returned must be made within one month after it is delivered to the participant.
e) Delivery of materials and screening copies of the films:
- By October 18th 2019 the following materials must be sent: dossier including cast and crew, bio-filmography of the director(s), stills and photos of the film and director(s), 2 posters and excerpts of the film for promotion. Any other press kits or advertising materials are welcome.
- Original REGISTRATION FORM, provided by the Festival is compulsory for all films participating in the competitive sections.
- By October 25th 2019 the screening print/copy of the film must be sent, indicating clearly the film’s title, length, footage, format and value of the copy to:

- The sender must provide notification of print shipment by e-mail (prints@gijonfilmfestival.com) with shipping details (title of film, date of delivery, format, method of shipment and the Air Way Bill number).
- Shipping costs, from the place of origin and return, of films participating in competition will be paid for by the entity and/or individual(s) registering for participation. The Festival Organization will not cover any costs regarding the delivery of related materials (screeners, posters, photographs, etc.).
- The person or company that has registered the film will provide the Festival with screening copy in the format(s) required by the FICX in each case (DCP following DCI, digital file, 35mm, 16mm).
- All screening prints/copies will remain at the Festival until it finishes. The prints/copies will be returned, after the Festival’s closing date, to the address stated on the related section of the application form, unless the print’s proprietor indicates otherwise in written form before the film’s screening at the FICX.
- Screening prints/copies in DCP format must follow the DCI rules, and before being sent to the Festival, they must be tested at a certified server by the company or person that has registered the film.
- All screening prints/copies must include subtitles in Spanish or english.


6.- JURIES AND prizes

9.- PARTICIPATION in the 57th Gijón International Film Festival implies acceptance of the Regulations. The interpretation of these will be at the discretion of the Festival’s Organizing Committee but in accordance with International Regulations established by the FIAPF. In case of doubt, only the Spanish version of these regulations will be considered valid.





  Festhome holds accountable fees festivals by holding the payment of the fees of most newer festivals until they have viewed the submissions, held their festivals and other methods.
