1. WHAT:
Shoot the story of your day in Spanish.
We are interested in the lives of people. Show different situations and times of the day featuring several actors. We want to see how you use Spanish to communicate among yourselves. You may appear on screen or voicing over the images. The important thing for us is to know your story.
2. WHERE:
Shoot footage from anywhere.
We are interested in stories from all over the world. It does not matter the place nor whether Spanish is a language of communication there. You may be in your home country, your current place of residence or a temporary place. You may tell us about a personal experience, a special day, a trip... However, bare in mind that we want to see different moments of any given day as you speak in Spanish.
3. HOW TO TELL YOUR STORY:
Work as a team.
Spanish in a day 2nd Edition will reward teamwork in the process of learning Spanish. Create a group of 3 to 5 Spanish students and choose a spokesperson (i.e. the main actor). Register in our website, assign different roles among each one of you (actor, director, screenwriter, camera, editor, costume designer, artistic director ...) and come up with a collaborative project. Your video will participate in the corresponding category of the language level of the main actor who will be, in turn, the spokesperson responsible for providing the necessary paperwork on behalf of the whole team. If your video becomes a winner in any category, all team members will be awarded an individual prize.
Shoot stories with a script adapted to your level.
Each team participates in a main category that corresponds to the language level of the team’s spokesperson. One of the criteria that we will value is that you can show a reasonable command of the linguistic resources corresponding to the level at which you are competing. In the Curriculum Plan of the Instituto Cervantes you may find a series of contents aligned with the 6 levels of the Common European Framework of Reference (A1-A2, B1-B2 and C1-C2).
Shoot original, creative, impressive, unique stories.
Another assessment criteria that we will value is the creativity and originality of your video. Tell us about the things that you like, your dreams, your worries ... You may include anecdotes, funny scenes, elements of fiction and any other details that you think may arouse our interest.
Shoot several actors interacting.
We will also value the interaction of the main actor with other people or characters. Show us how you communicate with them. The participation of other actors will be one of the most important criteria that the jury will value.
Shoot intercultural scenes.
The Special Prize of the Jury I de Intercultura, will reward your ability to approach different cultures: your own and that from a different country or region within a same country. It may be the one from a Spanish-speaking country or any other target culture that you feel especially interested in. We want to see a reflection on the differences and similarities between both cultures. Let us show you intercultural attitudes and skills freed from stereotypes and clichès.
4. WHEN:
Firstly, take the online placement test.
The first step to participate in Spanish in a day 2nd edition is to take the placement test developed by our sponsor Alicante University. There are 3 main categories of prizes: A de Acción (levels A1-A2), B de Butaca (levels B1-B2) and C de Cineclub (levels C1-C2), according to the 6 levels of the CEFR. You can only compete in one of them: the one assigned to the main actor and spokesperson representing the team as a result of the placement test.
In addition to the Special Prize of the Jury I de Intercultura, if the spokesperson can proof legal status as a refugee or asylum seeker in Spain, you can also submit your video for the Special Prize Welcome.
Secondly, take the NanoMOOC course.
Con C de Cine and our sponsor Salamanca University will offer a massive online open course (10-hours long) to get you prepared to produce your video. This online course will begin on March 31st, 2017 and will be delivered on the website Spanish in a day (www.spanishinaday.com). It will provide the contestants with the necessary information, skills and strategies to successfully meet the jury's assessment criteria. Taking this course is not mandatory but it is highly recommended for you and your team to take it. Those who complete the course may request a certificate issued by Con C de Cine and International Courses of Salamanca University.
For more information check out questions 5 and 6 from the Frequently Asked Questions published on the official website (FAQs).
Lastly, upload your video.
The video will be submitted through the Festhome platform. You may upload it from Friday March 31st until Sunday May 28th, 2017.
5. HOW TO SHOOT YOUR VIDEO:
Shoot with a camera, smartphone or tablet.
You may use any of these devices but keep in mind that the video must have HD digital format. If you record using a mobile device, place the camera in horizontal position (do not record in vertical position).
Shoot short videos.
The maximum duration of your video will depend on the category in which you compete. If you participate in category A de Acción your video should not exceed 3 minutes. In category B de Butaca it may be 4 minutes long and in category C de Cineclub, 5 minutes long.
Shoot and edit, if you wish.
Your video may be a recording of unedited scenes, including cuts, pauses and resuming the video afterwards. If you prefer so, you may make your own editing: select scenes and assemble them, play background music, include subtitles in Spanish, etc. But do bare in mind that neither the quality of the edition nor the audiovisual or technical effects will be valued by the jury.
IMPORTANT: If you use music, it must be credited by you or, if it has copyright use, you must have the required permissions to play it.
