Horror Hazard Film Fest is an international film festival dedicated to showcasing short films within the horror, suspense, and mystery genres.

Based in Costa Rica, the festival aims to create a space where filmmakers from around the world can share their work, connect with audiences, and explore the darker side of storytelling.

We welcome projects that evoke tension, fear, and psychological impact. Science fiction is also accepted when it incorporates elements of suspense or danger.

Our goal is to support emerging and established filmmakers by providing a platform for visibility, exhibition, and audience engagement. Selected films will be screened in theatrical venues during multiple festival dates in October 2027.

Beyond screenings, the festival may feature interviews, promotional content, and additional exposure opportunities for selected filmmakers through our platforms and media presence.

Horror Hazard Film Fest is more than a screening event — it is a space for horror storytelling, community, and cinematic experience.

NOTE ON AUDIENCE AWARDS:
Audience awards are automatically included and do not require a separate submission. Winners are determined by audience voting during screenings, which may vary depending on attendance per session.

PRIZES:
- Jury winners receive an official festival trophy
- Audience awards and special mentions receive digital recognition or physical recognition when applicable

TROPHY DELIVERY:
- International winners: trophies will be shipped if the required information is provided on time
- Costa Rica winners: delivery or pickup will be coordinated if not present at the ceremony

No monetary prizes are offered.

- Short films up to 20 minutes (including credits)

- Accepted genres: Horror, Suspense, Mystery (Sci-fi accepted with suspense elements)

- Films must have been completed between January 1, 2025 and July 15, 2027

- Premiere status is NOT required


SUBMISSIONS:

- Multiple entries are allowed
- Each film must be submitted separately
- Each category requires a separate submission and fee

- Minimum resolution: 1080p
- Accepted frame rates: 23.976 / 24 / 25 / 30 fps


SubtitleS:

- Spanish subtitles required if film is not in Spanish


NOTIFICATION:

- Only selected films will be notified
- Notification date: August 30, 2027

- By submitting, filmmakers agree to screening and promotional use
- The festival reserves the right to accept or reject any submission
