News: The film festival opens its call for entries to Latin America and Portugal.
Aims: Márgenes festival focuses on Spanish, Portuguese and Latin American films with no commercial outlets and with no conventional distribution, aiming to offer a quality selection of independent and innovative cinema and visual arts. The festival celebrates filmmakers' moral commitment to the subjects in their films.

Nationality: Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, México, Nicaragua, Panamá, Paraguay, Peru, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Spain, Uruguay and Venezuela.
Year of Production: Films must be completed on or after January 1 2013.
Genre : institutional and advertising films, TV documentaries and journalistic films will not be accepted.
Length: 40 minutes minimum.
Language: Spanish or Spanish subtitles.
Premier and commercial release: Films with normal commercial outlets and with conventional distribution are not eligible. Films that have been broadcast on TV before the Festival are not eligible.
Deadlines: Submitting period: from June 30 to September 30, 2014 (24.00h GMT+1). Selected Films: November, 3 - digital file for online streaming November, 10 - screening copy
Period and venues: Selected films will be available online via streaming on www.margenes.org from December 4 to 31. Each of the selected films will be also screened, once each, at the festival officials venues:
Madrid, Spain (Cineteca Matadero) – from December 4 to 8
Montevideo, Uruguay (Cinemateca Uruguaya) – from December 4 to 9
Córdoba, Spain (Filmoteca de Andalucía) – from December 9 to 12
México DF, México (Cine Tonalá) – from December 4 to 7
Bogotá, Colombia (Cine Tonalá) – from December 11 to 12
Monterrey, México ( Cineteca de Nuevo León) – from December 4 to 7
Barcelona, Spain (Sala Zumseig) – from December 6 to 12
Awards: Jury Prize to Best Film, 2.000 € as potential exhibition fees of up to ten screenings of the winning film as part of Márgenes and associated projects. Sponsored by Cine en Ruta Cultural Association.
Production of a DCP copy. Sponsored by Laserfilm. Jury Special Mention Subtitles to English or French. Sponsored by Pequerrecho Subtitulación.
