The Outlet Dance Project ()

The Outlet Dance Project is an annual festival of artists who identify or have identified as women, sharing their vision through film, site-specific dance, and work created for the stage. It is one of the largest, most popular, and well-attended dance festivals in New Jersey. In partnership with Grounds For Sculpture – an internationally renowned contemporary sculpture park – the festival celebrates the intersections of visual and moving arts, exploring relationships between sculpture and dance, between place and movement.

We seek short dance-films that not only show excellence in this genre, but ideally, have connections to site-specificity, architecture, and/or sculpture as well. The festival is open to filmmakers and choreographers everywhere who identify or have identified as women.

Proposed films should be 15 minutes or less in length. ​If your film is selected, you must provide a downloadable high-resolution file (1080p) for the final line up.

You may submit up to two film proposals (or one film and one live performance proposal) per application fee. If you are submitting two films with your application, please include a link to the second film within the body of your application. If you are submitting both a film proposal and live performance proposal, please separate the proposals and send a separate live performance application via email with the subject line: Day of Dance: Site Specific. Your Name or Day of Dance: Staged Work. Your Name in the subject line, noting your application fee receipt number. Info about applying for live performance is found at www.theoutletdanceproject.com.

Whether or not your film is selected, you will be entitled to a complementary ticket for the Thursday evening event as part of your application fee.

How did you hear about us? How do you see your work fitting into the festival? If accepted, how do you plan to help promote The Outlet Dance Project? Please also mention if you are able to attend the event and if you have any accessibility needs. Not being able to attend will not affect your selection.

Though you are welcome to submit works in progress, priority consideration will be given to complete films.
