A/R/TOGRÁFICA International Videonarration Exhibition is an annual event organised by the University of Granada which, in its 11th edition, gave rise to the A/R/TOGRÁFICA platform. Since then, the platform has expanded its activities through a year-round programme held both in Granada and beyond the city.

The Exhibition brings together artistic research projects that use audiovisual narration as a methodology for artistic creation, research, and learning, and each year launches an INTERNATIONAL OPEN CALL inviting artists, researchers, and educators to participate in screening sessions held during February and March in different venues and institutional spaces associated with the event.

The open call brings together experimental, essayistic, and research-based proposals within the contemporary audiovisual art landscape, with particular interest in works that incorporate or generate a/r/tographic processes throughout their development (A/r/tography Films). From this perspective, A/R/TOGRÁFICA highlights the research, educational, and creative dimensions of moving image practices, with particular attention to works that explore their potential as tools for thinking, learning, and producing knowledge through the arts.

The Exhibition also seeks to foster encounters and the creation of networks of collaboration among artists, researchers, and educators interested in the possibilities of the moving image as a space for experimentation, reflection, and the collective construction of knowledge.

There are no cash prizes

The selected films are screened in the Official Section of the Exhibition and are included in its digital catalogue.


Edition Catalogue

A/R/TOGRÁFICA publishes a digital catalogue for each edition, in PDF format, featuring the selected works and relevant information about their authors and projects. The catalogue will be available free of charge to participants, researchers, educators, artists, and other interested parties through the PUBLICATIONS section of the A/R/TOGRÁFICA website.

An on-demand printed edition, with an ISBN, is also available through the Blurb publishing platform (https://www.blurb.com). This printed version is a commercial edition intended for those who wish to have a physical copy of the catalogue.

Orders placed through Blurb include the applicable taxes and shipping costs to the destination. Shipments to countries outside the European Union may be subject to customs duties or other additional charges. The production, management, distribution, and delivery of printed copies are the sole responsibility of Blurb. A/R/TOGRÁFICA is therefore not responsible for any incidents, delays, additional costs, or other circumstances related to orders.

To facilitate access to the printed edition, the organisation may periodically share promotional codes or discounts offered by Blurb through its communication channels.

A/r/tography Films Channel

With the aim of promoting, documenting, and highlighting audiovisual practices that contribute to the development of a/r/tographic thinking and methodology, A/R/TOGRÁFICA may select certain works submitted to the open call for inclusion in the A/R/TOGRAPHY FILMS CHANNEL.

Selection will focus particularly on the quality of the works and the presence of a/r/tographic processes or methodologies in their conception, development, or production. Selected works will become part of this audiovisual repository, conceived as a space for consultation and reference aimed especially at artists, researchers, educators, students, and professionals interested in artistic research and education through the moving image.

Each entry in the channel will include basic information about the work and its authorship, together with technical details, a representative image, and a direct link to the video platform on which the work is permanently hosted, using the link provided by the author in the submission form or through the platforms enabled for the open call.

Inclusion in A/r/tography Films constitutes an additional means of dissemination and documentation and does not necessarily imply that all works selected for the Exhibition will be included in the channel.

1. Participants and Characteristics of the Works

The open call is open to artists, researchers, educators, and audiovisual creators developing projects related to the moving image in artistic, educational, training, or research contexts.

Works must not exceed 15 minutes in length and must demonstrate a clear experimental approach, addressing a topic of artistic, social, educational, or educational interest in relation to the title and theme of the 13th edition of A/R/TOGRÁFICA: EVOCATIVE METHOD.

Independent curatorial proposals will also be accepted, provided that the total duration of the proposal does not exceed 20 minutes.

2. Originality and Previous Exhibition
​
Submitted works must be original works by their authors. Works that have previously been presented, exhibited, or disseminated at other exhibitions, festivals, open calls, or similar events are also eligible.

3. Authorship and Submission of Works
​
Works may be created by individual or collective authors and may be submitted by an individual or by a team responsible for their production.

Each author, artist, or collective may submit one work only to the open call.

Works submitted by distributors, representation agencies, or other intermediary companies will not be accepted. Works must be submitted directly by their authors or by a member of the team responsible for their production.

The person submitting the work must have the authorisation of the other members of the team, where applicable, to act on their behalf.

4. Audiovisual Genres and A/r/tographic Character
​
All types of audiovisual genres and formats are eligible, provided that the proposal establishes a clear relationship with artistic research, art education, or a/r/tographic methodology, whether through its conception, creative process, methodology, development, or outcomes.

Particular attention will be paid to productions that may be considered

A/r/tography Films, understood as audiovisual practices in which creation, research, and learning converge as part of the production process itself.

Works explicitly submitted as A/r/tography Films must indicate this status in the submission form and, where applicable, may include the

A/r/tography Films logo in the credits of the work. The logo is available for download on the A/R/TOGRÁFICA website.

5. Availability and Public Access to the Works
​
The educational and research-based nature of the Exhibition requires public and permanent access to the selected works.

For this reason, only works that are permanently hosted on a public video platform, YouTube or Vimeo, and whose links allow access without requiring additional authorisation from the author will be eligible.

Participants must provide the corresponding link in the submission form or through the platforms enabled for the open call. This link may be used to facilitate access to the work through the A/R/TOGRÁFICA website, the edition catalogue, and, where applicable, the A/r/tography Films Channel.

By submitting a work, participants authorise A/R/TOGRÁFICA to publish the access link, basic information about the work, and a representative image in the spaces and publications associated with the Exhibition, exclusively for cultural, educational, academic, and event-related dissemination purposes.

Works that do not meet this requirement of permanent public availability will be excluded from the open call.

6. Language and Subtitles
​
Works produced in a language other than Spanish must include Spanish subtitles when they contain dialogue, spoken narration, or written text whose comprehension is relevant to the work.

Works without dialogue, or in which the use of language is not significant, may be submitted without subtitles.

7. Copyright and Responsibility for Content
​
The A/R/TOGRÁFICA organisation accepts no responsibility for the content of submitted works or for any rights arising from their use.

Responsibility for copyright, image rights, music, texts, photographs, archival material, audiovisual materials, or any other third-party elements used in the works shall rest exclusively with the authors or persons responsible for the submission.

Participation in the open call implies that the person submitting the work declares that they have obtained all necessary permissions and rights for its exhibition and dissemination within the framework of the Exhibition.

8. Submission and Deadline

The deadline for submitting works is November 30, 2026.

Participation through any of these channels implies full acceptance of these rules and conditions.

9. Selection, Results, and Delivery of Works
​
Submitted works will be assessed by a specialised jury composed of professionals and experts in audiovisual art, artistic research, education, and/or a/r/tographic practices.

The jury will make a selection based particularly on the quality, artistic interest, experimental character, and a/r/tographic relevance of the proposals. Selected works will form part of the official A/R/TOGRÁFICA programme and will be screened in the different venues and institutional spaces associated with the event.

The jury's decision is final and the results will be announced through the official A/R/TOGRÁFICA website and social media channels during December 2026, once the selection process has been completed.

The organisation will contact selected authors by email and, where applicable, through any other means specified in the open call, to provide information regarding the delivery of screening copies and the correction or completion of any required documentation.

The deadline for receiving screening copies is December 22, 2026.

If the author or person responsible for a selected work fails to provide the screening copy or required documentation within the established deadline, the organisation may consider the selection void and remove any reference to the work from published promotional and communication materials.

Selection for the Exhibition does not necessarily imply inclusion in the

A/r/tography Films Channel, which will be subject to the specific selection criteria established by the organisation.

10. Acceptance of the Rules and Conditions
​
Participation in the open call implies full acceptance of these rules and conditions, as well as of the submission, selection, exhibition, and dissemination procedures established by the A/R/TOGRÁFICA organisation.

Participation also implies acceptance of the conditions relating to the public availability of the works, their inclusion in the Exhibition's communication and dissemination materials, and, where applicable, their inclusion in the edition catalogue and the A/r/tography Films Channel.
