The LimaDocs Documentary Film Festival will take place from May 13 to May 22, 2027. For its third edition, the festival invites filmmakers from across the country to submit their feature-length, short, and medium-length documentary films completed between January 2025 and the closing date of this call for entries.

The festival will announce on social media the various prizes sponsored by partner organizations, which will be awarded at the conclusion of the festival; some of these will include a monetary incentive alongside an official recognition.

The submission period begins on November 15, 2026, for all categories and concludes on February 25, 2027.

The festival accepts documentary works in all their forms.

There are no restrictions regarding subject matter or technique; however, the duration of each work must adhere to the maximum time limit established for its respective category. Furthermore, submissions may explore the possibilities of audiovisual cinematic language, personal or unconventional approaches, and—naturally—the boundaries of the documentary format itself, including its infinite subgenres and hybrid forms.

The festival prioritizes premieres. Domestic (Peruvian) works that have already premiered or had a pre-premiere screening at another festival within the country will be automatically disqualified, though the organizing committee reserves the right to make exceptions. Once selected, a work may not be withdrawn from the festival, nor may it be screened elsewhere in Peru prior to its official presentation at LIMA DOCS.

The festival features four competitive documentary sections: 1) Peruvian Documentary Feature Film Competition, 2) Peruvian Documentary Short and Mid-length Film Competition, 3) Peruvian Youth Documentary Short and Mid-length Film Competition, and 4) International Documentary Short and Mid-length Film Competition. Filmmakers are responsible for assigning their work to the appropriate category. Additionally, those associated with selected films must keep their participation confidential until the festival’s official announcement.

The "Youth Competition" (Competencia Joven) is open to filmmakers aged 18 to 25—including university and vocational students—as well as independent young filmmakers and emerging creators of documentary short films. There is no entry fee for this category.
