The festival will take place in Bucharest and will be multiplied in 18 county residences in Romania. Thus, for the first edition, for 3 days, the festival wants to capture the public’s attention by screening 400 animated shorts.
The “ABIFF” International Film Festival has as its defining theme the relationship between majority and ethnic minorities.
Cash Prizes: 7,000€

Thematic Section - Prize: € 1000.
Debut Section - Prize: € 1000.
Young Professionals Section - Prize: € 1000.
Script Section - Prize: € 1000.

Individuals or legal entities from anywhere in the world and any language can participate as long as they have reached the age of 18.
The same director or producer may submit any number of works.
Film running time must be no more than 15 minutes (all credits included).
Each film/script submitted must be accompanied by the relative Entry Form filled in each part.
Free submission, no fee till 31st of May 2021.
You can still submit your films/script till 30th of June, 2021, with a late entry fee in amount of 10 Euros.
All the film submitted must have English subtitles.
All the scripts submitted must be in English or Romanian language.
The festival supports movies in digital file format with the following image features: mov / mp4, h264 encoder, max. 20000 kbps constant bit rate, ideal resolution 1080p (1920 × 1080) and sound: AAC 48kHz / 16bit.
All the participants must furnish, by fulfilling the Entry Form, the following information and materials:
1. Film and English subtitles;
2. Synopsis (max 1800 characters), only for Script Section ;
3. Name, email address, Adress, Country (for statistical purposes only),
The selected authors may be asked to provide additional materials/information.
Film selection will be at discretion of the Festival Committee.
The list of the selected films/scripts will be notified by 4th of July 2021 by email to the authors/producers of the films. It is strictly forbidden to communicate with the authors/producers/distributors selected, by any means (social, website etc.), before the date of the press conference, which will be communicated through the festival official channels.
A jury of professional filmmakers, illustrators, cartoonist, distributors, journalists, musicians, will assign the ABIFF 2021 awards.
Films may be of any subject, as long as they do not violate people's rights such as: race, creed, social status. Etc.
From the selected 400 films that will be screened in the festival, 20 will be further selected to be broadcasted by the National TV Station (State owned TVR) on one or more of their channels. When apply, the submitter must explicitly accept or refuse for his movie to be broadcasted if selected in the 20 mentioned above.
Competitional Section
This section is for all genres of short animation films.
Grand Prize of 3.000 euro will be awarded.
Thematic Section
The Thematic Section is dedicated to the minority-majority relationship.
This section of the ABIFF-2021 festival aims to:
– to identify innovative ways of resolving the possible tensions of the minority-majority relations;
– increasing the notoriety of the radicalization of vulnerable segments;
– combating extremist tendencies and the possibility of presenting a counter-narrative to this situation.
Prize: € 1.000
Debut Section
The Debut section will be intended for people who are making their first animated short film, regardless of whether they are graduates of a specialized educational institution or not.
Prize: € 1.000
Young Professionals Section
This special section of the ABIFF 2021 festival is dedicated to the promotion of films produced by the specialized academies in the world and to Romanian or foreign students. They are given the opportunity to promote their work in a very important part of the international animation festival.
Prize: € 1.000
Screenplay Section
The Screenplay section will be dedicated to all screenwriters for animated films.
