Rules Falares. Documentary Film Showcase of Llanes 2026
1. Purpose of the Competition

1.1. The competition is open to documentary films of any nationality completed after August 1, 2024. Fiction, institutional, or commercial films, as well as reports or works of strictly journalistic nature, are not accepted.

1.2. There are no restrictions regarding theme, duration, or original language.

1.3. Films with a duration of 35 minutes or less will be considered short films and will be eligible for the specific short film award. Films longer than 35 minutes will be considered feature-length films and will compete in the feature film category.

1.4. If the dialogue of the work is in a language other than English, Spanish, or Basque, a subtitled version in one of these languages must be provided for all parts in a different language.

1.5. Films that have been released in commercial Spanish theaters, commercially distributed, or broadcast by Spanish television channels or digital platforms operating in Spain before the festival dates will not be accepted. Films that do not comply with this rule will be withdrawn from the Official Selection.

1.6. Submitting a film to this competition is compatible with other awards or grants from public or private entities (except as specified in point 1.5).

2. Submission of Applications

2.1. Each film must be submitted by the person(s) in charge of production or direction who hold the rights to the submitted work. Submission is free of charge.

2.2. The organization assumes that entrants hold the exhibition rights to the submitted works. In any case, the festival is not responsible for any infringement of this point.

2.3. The festival will recognize the signatory of the submission as the sole contact with third parties regarding the film.

2.4. The submission deadline is Augost 15, 2026, at 23:59.

2.5. The organization guarantees that submitted films can only be downloaded and viewed by the selection committee. Once the selection process is completed, all films will be deleted except for those selected.

3. Selection

3.1. The selection committee will be composed of the festival’s Artistic Direction and experts in documentary cinema.

4. Jury

4.1. The festival Direction will appoint an international jury composed of experts and professionals in the field. A secretary without voting rights may also be appointed.

4.2. The Jury will announce its decisions during the closing gala, including a justification for each award.

4.3. The decisions of the Jury are final and cannot be appealed.

5. Awards

5.1. The Official Jury will award:

6. Interpretation of the Rules

6.1. Submitting a film implies full acceptance of these rules.

6.2. In case of any discrepancy, the Spanish version of the rules will prevail.

6.3. Any questions will be resolved by the festival Direction.
