FANGES is an initiative born from the growing interest in genre films.
Its aim is the recognition, dissemination and promotion of cinematographic works of fantasy genre, suspense, thriller, horror, gore, action, fantasy, science fiction, and all those subgenera that make the cinematographic universe a magical place.
At the same time, it seeks to recognize the creators of these works in Chile and the world.
The festival is composed by an international competition of short and feature films, exhibition of films of the Fantastic and Terror genres, talks and a showfloor where genre works are exhibited in other formats: videogames, comic books, books, among others.
4. AWARDS
The following prizes will be awarded by category:
a) International Short Film Competition:
- Best Short Film
- Audience Award for Best Short Film
b) International Feature Film Competition:
- Best Feature Film
- Best Direction
- Best Actor or Actress
- Audience Award for Best Feature Film
The prize Eduardo Saavedra for Best Special Effects, will be dispute between short and feature films. Only one winner.
The delivery of the statuettes, diplomas or plates will be done through a post office service chosen by the organization of FANGES, and can take place between 2 and 6 months after the end of the festival.
None of these awards may be deserted or granted ex aequo.
The Audience Award for the Best Short Film and Feature Film will be chosen by the audience attending the screenings, casting their vote at the end of each session. Each person will have ONE vote, where they can grade the film from 1 to 10. To be able to apply to this award, the film must have at least 15 votes.
The producers or representatives of the films that have received a prize, agree to mention it in all the publicity and press material referring to these films, respecting the exact wording of the jury's decision and using the Festival's logo, which will be sent by the Festival organization.
1. OBJECTIVE
FANGES purpose is the recognition and promotion of films and audiovisual works of fantasy genre: suspense / thriller, horror, gore, action, film noir, fantasy, epic, science fiction, comic, superheroes, Martial Arts, as well as making known the creators of these works in Chile and the world.
2. DATE
The 2nd edition of the Festival will take place in the city of Santiago, Chile, on October 25, 26 and 27, 2019.
3. GENERAL CONDITIONS
All Short Films with a maximum duration of 15 minutes (including credits) and completed as of January 1, 2018 can participate.
All Feature Films from any part of the world with a minimum duration of 70 minutes may participate. Works must not have been released before January 1, 2018.
Films that have already had a commercial run in Chile before the Festival dates can not participate.
Each participant may submit as many short films and feature films as they wish.
The works mustn't have been submitted to previous versions of the festival.
Short films and feature films whose language of origin is different from Spanish must be subtitled in Spanish.
The works must have as theme the fantastic genre: suspense / thriller, horror, gore, action, film noir, fantasy, epic, science fiction, comic, superheroes, martial arts. Animation or live action is accepted. Works of video art, experimental works, documentaries, fake trailers or video clips are not accepted.
The person responsible for registering the work will be held responsible for any copyrights within it.
4. SUBMISSIONS
Works from any country of origin or nationality may apply. Submissions are free for all.
4.1. DATES
The call is open as of its publication, on May 20, 2019 and closes on September 1st, 2019 at 23:59 hrs. (time of continental Chile GMT-3). The notifications of the selected short films and feature films will be announced on October 1st, 2018 on the festival's official website: www.fanges.cl

5. SELECTION
All films selected for the 2nd edition of the Festival will be chosen by its Selection Committee, headed by the Festival Management and the Programming team.
The producers of the selected works will be contacted by email no later than October 3, 2019, and the next steps will be indicated.
a) Copy of Exhibition: the exhibition copy can be sent physically through a bluray disc or digitally in HD MOV format, H.264 codec of high quality.
b) Language: the exhibition copy in case it isn’t spoken in Spanish MUST HAVE SUBTITLES IN SPANISH. The producer or representative of the work must provide a copy with subtitles embed on the screen or deliver a .srt file in case of sending a MOV file. Failure to comply with this requirement will mean the automatic disqualification of the selection.
c) Dates: the exhibition copy must be in possession of the festival no later than October 11, 2019 at 23:59 hrs. (GMT-3).
Once contacted, the producer or representative of the work will have a week (7 days) to reply confirming their participation in the festival. The Festival will recognize the signer of this confirmation as the only interlocutor to coordinate all aspects related to the participation of the film in the event and as the sole responsible before other companies or people who may have participated in the production of the film.
The Festival won’t pay for the rights of exhibition (screening fee) of the films that participate in the Official Section in the different categories.
If the quality of the film in its final copy generates failures during its reproduction in the festival screenings (such as desynchronization, pixelation, poor quality of audio or video, low resolution, low sound, failure to recognize the physical medium, disk, pendrive, hard disk, etc.), the responsibility will be fully of the submitter of the film and who sends the final copy, and in any case of the organization.
The organization of the Festival won’t be held responsible for the costs of sending any short film or feature film. Works won’t be returned.
The global programming of the FANGES, the necessary projection formats, the schedules and dates of the screenings are the exclusive competence of the Festival Organization.
6. JURY
The jury of the Festival will be composed of personalities of the Chilean audiovisual, artistic and cultural environment, and their decisions regarding the award aren’t contestable.
No personality that has any relationship with the competing works or commercial interest in them will form part of the jury.
The Festival Management will appoint all the members of the Official Jury, including its president.
The deliberations of the Official Jury will be secret and the decisions will be adopted by simple majority. The Festival Management may attend the deliberations of the jury but won’t take part in the voting.
The members of the Official Jury Committee themselves agree not to publicly express their opinions regarding the films submitted for their consideration before the official proclamation of the prizes.
Any possible conflict of operation not foreseen in this regulation will be resolved by the Festival Management.
7. PRESS AND PROMOTION
All films selected in the different Competitive Sections of the Festival are requested the following materials:
Screenshots and promotional pictures from the film and the director.
Promotional poster for the film with a minimum size of 50x70 cm and a maximum size of 70x100 cm (300 dpi printing quality).
Teaser and/or Trailer
Optional: Various informative and promotional material for the press and the public as well as any other documentation about the film that enriches the knowledge and dissemination of it: video clips (in HD quality), press book, etc.
The Festival website and its sections may include "Google AdWords", "Yahoo! Search Marketing ", banners or similar that report benefits to the organization.
8. CONSIDERATIONS
The Festival Management may withdraw at any time any film that doesn’t meet any of the rules of this Regulation. Likewise, the falsification of the production data may lead to its withdrawal from the different competitive sections even if already selected.
The organization won’t be able to pay for trips, hotels, or accommodation for those who wish to attend the festival to present their film. Neither will it offer pick-up or transport services, nor visits or meals.
Any eventuality not contemplated in this call will be resolved by the Organizing Committee and this decision will be unappealable.
The submission of a film to the festival implies the unconditional acceptance of these bases. Ignorance, lack of reading or understanding does not exempt compliance with them.
