The Alliance Française de Puerto Rico (the “AFPR”) presents an annual Puerto Rican short film competition as part of its European Film Festival with the aim of promoting the creation of new local film projects, giving support in the realization and promotion of the themselves. This year, due to the pandemic, AFPR will make a call to invite Puerto Rican and European filmmakers to participate in the Competition by submitting finished short films, subject to the following rules and conditions.

Cash Prizes: 1,500$

There will be 12 awards:

Cinematography
Best Musical Composition
Best Art Design
Better Sound
Best Editing
Best screenplay
Best Direction
Honorable Mention of the Jury
Best Actor
Best actress
Best film

The jury will also select a short as the winner or winner of the “Best Film” and will award the only cash prize of $ 1,500 to the winner from Puerto Rico and $ 1,000 to the winner or winner from Europe.

1. Those Puerto Rican or European filmmakers who have short films produced between 2018 and 2020, that are fiction and whose maximum duration is 20 minutes may participate in the Competition.

2. The filmmaker (or company) that has the rights to each short film must:
to. Upload the short film on the AFPR Fest Home portal;
b. Find out about the terms and conditions and privacy policies of the platform you are going to use; Y
c. Pay an admission fee that will depend on your category and the date, as established in these Rules.

3. By submitting their short film, each filmmaker (or company) accepts that they have all the rights to the short film (including intellectual property rights) and therefore agree to relieve and indemnify AFPR from any claim related to this representation.

4. By submitting their short film, each filmmaker (or company) will be granting the AFPR the non-exclusive right to exhibit the short film on any platform or medium and throughout the universe for one year from the first day of the 2021 Festival. In addition, you will be granting AFPR the right to use the short films, as well as the name and image of the filmmakers involved in the short, for promotional purposes of the Competition.

5. Once the call period for the Competition closes, the Festival team will select a maximum of 10 short films per region (Puerto Rico and Europe) to participate in the Competition, based on their quality and the requirements established in the first section. Once selected, the short cannot be withdrawn from the Competition.

6. During the Competition, the Festival team will select a five-member jury for the anonymous evaluation of the shorts and the selection of the best short in both regions (Puerto Rico and Europe) in the following categories: Cinematography, Best Musical Composition, Art , Sound, Editing, Screenplay, Direction, Best Film, Jury Mention, Actor and Actress. The jury will also select a short as the winner or winner of the “Best Film” and will award the only cash prize of $ 1,500 to the winner from Puerto Rico and $ 1,000 to the winner or winner from Europe.

7. In addition, an “Audience Award” will be chosen for both regions (Puerto Rico and Europe) to be determined by a public vote during the screening of the Shorts.



  Festhome holds accountable fees festivals by holding the payment of the fees of most newer festivals until they have viewed the submissions, held their festivals and other methods.
