POLO SUR Latin American Film Festival: Call for Entries and Application Guidelines

The Proa Cultural Group invites submissions of audiovisual materials for the upcoming film festival in the southern city of Punta Arenas.

Polo Sur Latin American is created and curated from Punta Arenas and believes that audiovisual works have no expiration date. Therefore, it welcomes works from any production date, in a variety of formats and themes, hence its unique selection.

The Polo Sur Latin American Film Festival in Punta Arenas is clearly framed within the guidelines of decentralization and access to culture, in a clear stage of counterculture and resistance, as its exhibition materials are high-quality works due to their artistic proposal and authorial vision, controversial in nature, daring works, demanding narratives, and great identity value.

This is a festival with its own unique stamp, created with great care for its audience, the local community, the neighbors, and the people themselves, without any segregation. The festival expresses its gratitude and organizes to award a prize: El Ñirre, the flag of Patagonia, an iron sculpture, to works that have moved the audience.

This year, we invite you to participate with audiovisual works according to the following application guidelines:

1. Audiovisual materials must be works created about Latin America, regardless of the origin (nationality) of the producer or director, as long as the material deals with or addresses at least one theme located in Latin America. We are not accepting materials related to the pandemic or sexual violence.

2. We will not accept works such as: visual records of undergraduate theses, unfinished projects, institutional or corporate projects, or audiovisual works clearly intended as commissions, including journalistic articles or reports of any kind, or other formats that do not correspond to the focus or profile of the South Pole Film Festival, which is clearly framed within the creative direction of arthouse.

3. Viewing materials accepted in any other language must include activated Spanish subtitles.

4. The South Pole Latin American Film Festival prefers to screen digital materials with good resolution and sound (16:9 aspect ratio / Full HD 1080p resolution (1920x1080 pixels) / STEREO sound (2.0 or 2.1 or 5.1) / .MOV (h.264) / 16.000 bitrate with the screen clear of embedded subtitles). Materials for evaluation can be submitted in any digital format, but ideally with a resolution of no less than 640x480.

5. One work per director/producer will be accepted, and up to two per producer. This is also a requirement for distributors: a maximum of two titles.

6. From the selection, the producer and/or director must sign the form/letter of consent for the public exhibition of their work within the framework of this Film Festival. Without this document, in accordance with the law for the protection of authors and intellectual property, it cannot be submitted. Exhibited. Send the Form/Letter and drive link with the document. When the selection is notified, the corresponding document will be sent to an updated email address: polosurlatinoamericano@gmail.com.

7. If selected, you must submit the best possible quality material for the exhibition, ideally as indicated in point 4., although MKV and DCP are also accepted.

8. For promotion and dissemination, you will need:

- Brief synopsis and brief technical sheet in Spanish
- Two A5-format frames of the film
- A3-format film poster

9. Excerpts from the selected work may be used for trailers, spots, and other film festival promotions.
