Berriozar Films Kultural “Lantzeluze” announces the “15th International Festival of Social Themed Short Films” that will take place in Berriozar.

Cash Prizes: 4,600€

The prizes are (amounts are attached to deductions by public prosecutor according to local law):

- Official section (Jury Award):
First prize: 2.000 €.
Second prize: 1.000 €.
Third prize: 600 €.
EITB Fourth prize: 600 €.

- Participatory section:
Audience award: 400 €.

1. The scope of the festival is international and short films made from January 1, 2023 up to one day before the date of admission of works can participate in the selection process.

2. The short film's subject must deal with social topics.

3. All genres (fiction, documentary, animated films…) will be framed within one category: social theme.

4. The maximum length of the short films will be 12 minutes (including the closing credits).

5. Short films unable to be seen due to technical or format problems won't be accepted. All productions must have built-in sound. Short films that need auxiliary sound systems for their reproduction won't be accepted.

6. Official languages are Spanish and Basque. Films in any language are admitted, but they must be always subtitled in Spanish and/or Basque, if they are not in one of these two languages. subtitles must be included in the replay file.

8. Participants can submit as many films as they want. Recordings will all be stored in mp4 video stream format.

9. Considering the festival only tries to promote the audiovisual industry, without any economic interests, all participants decline, with their entries, any royalties for the exhibition of their short film during the festival.

10. The Organization will make a first selection from all the short films received, considering subject, technique, creativity… These selected short films will be screened during the festival and are the ones that will compete for the prizes awarded by the jury (the date of selection and notification will be made at least one month before the start of the festival).

11. Festival dates:

Competition stage:

- 23, 24 and 25 October, 2024: short films projection. The audience will vote for their favorite short film. All of them are able to win the Audience award as well.
- 26 October, 2024: awarded short films exhibition and awards ceremony.

12. Berriozar Films will designate a Jury composed by professionals in the social, cultural and audiovisual fields, who will choose the winners from all the short films selected in the screening process. The Jury has the right to declare a prize null and void if they consider it appropriate.

The Jury comprises five members:
1. One representative of Berriozar Films.
2. One representative of the Berriozar Council.
3. One representative of a Berriozar Cultural Institution or the Berriozar Public School.
4. One audiovisual specialist.
5. One audiovisual issues specialist and/or artist.


13. The prizes are (amounts are attached to deductions by public prosecutor according to local law):

- Official section (Jury Award):
First prize: 2.000 €.
Second prize: 1.000 €.
Third prize: 600 €.
EITB Fourth prize: 600 €.

- Participatory section:
Audience award: 400 €.

14. The Organisation will contact the winners by mail, at least one month before de awards ceremony in order to give them the chance to present their work before the final Festival exhibition. The winners must send their short films in high quality, as explained in point 8. Short films may be excluded if their author doesn't answer the organisation communications timely.

15. The responsible of the winner film or his/her representative must be present in the Award Ceremony to pick up the award (except for the Audience Award, which will be known few days before the awards Ceremony, so it would be difficult to organize a trip to pick it up. In this case, winners can a small video, maximum 1 minute). The concepts of lodging, diets, displacement will be attended with an amount of €300 per prize, regardless of the people who attend.

16. The participation in this Festival is compatible with any other festival and with other prizes and grants.

17. The selected works will be screened for the students of the Berriozar Public Institute and for Berriozar social and/or educational entities after the Festival in order to use them as a tool to work on some social issues. Due to their theme, they could form part of a "cortoteka" to which only social workers, directors or heads of educational centers have access for possible use in educational and/or training projects.

18. To participate in this Festival implies the acceptance of the regulations of this calling, as well as all the decisions and resolutions taken by the Organisation and the Jury.

20. Due to internal promotion on the Festival, the organisation may ask for some additional documentation and information referred to the selected short films.
