The 23rd Guaíba National Student Film Festival / National and International Short and Feature Film Showcase (Guaíba 2025) is a pioneer in Brazil and a reference in the debate and use of new technologies in the classroom, having contributed to the emergence of new talents and a new perspective on media. It is an event that has been held uninterruptedly, receiving more works each year from schools all over Brazil and abroad, while also opening space for professional short and feature films from other countries.
Guaíba, the birthplace of the Farroupilha Revolution, has become the birthplace of new filmmakers.
Certificates will be sent by email to the event’s highlights in the different categories. Trophies will be awarded to national productions.
23rd Guaíba Student Film Festival / National and International Short and Feature Film Showcase has been held since 2002, aiming to promote the role of children and young people in cinema and to educate the eye.
Guaíba, the birthplace of the Farroupilha Revolution, has been consolidating itself as the birthplace of new filmmakers.
2. PARTICIPANTS
Films made by students in Early Childhood Education and Primary Years, Middle Years, and by students in Secondary or Technical Education may participate in the Festival.
The Festival also welcomes short and feature films made by production companies, universities, or independently, by professionals, provided they contribute to the educational proposal. These will be included in the Alternative Showcase / Brazil and International Showcase, which are also competitive.
3. SUBMISSIONS
Submissions will be accepted from July 5 to August 31, 2025.
4. STUDENT SHOWCASE
4.1. EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION / PRIMARY YEARS:
Short films in any genre and format, up to 10 minutes, including credits.
4.2. MIDDLE YEARS:
Middle Years Student Showcase Highlights:
Fiction: up to 20 minutes
Educational Advertisement: up to 1 minute 30 seconds
Documentary: up to 20 minutes
4.3. SECONDARY / TECHNICAL EDUCATION:
Secondary or Technical Student Showcase Highlights:
Fiction: up to 20 minutes, including credits
Educational Advertisement: up to 1 minute 30 seconds, including credits
Documentary: up to 20 minutes, including credits
4.4. SPECIAL CATEGORY “TOWARDS THE CENTENARY”:
Advertisements (up to 1 minute 30 seconds) and documentaries (up to 10 minutes) highlighting the city of Guaíba, its historical and tourist potential, which will celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2026.
4.5. NOTE: Each school may submit a maximum of five short films per category.
5. NATIONAL AND INTERNATIONAL ALTERNATIVE SHOWCASE
5.1. The National and International Alternative Showcase is open to films in the categories of fiction, documentary, animation, and others, either short or feature length.
5.2. Foreign films may be submitted to the festival provided they are subtitled or dubbed in Portuguese, or do not require translation due to the absence of dialogue needing translation.
6. SELECTION
The films to be shown in the official showcases will be selected by the organizing committee, according to the objectives of the Festival (cinema and education).

8. ANNOUNCEMENT OF SELECTED FILMS
8.1. The selected films will be officially announced on the Facebook page: facebook.com/cinestudantil
8.2. The announcement date will be determined later.
9. JURY
The organizing committee, together with the jury, may withhold some of the prizes specified above if it considers that no work meets the necessary criteria, as well as add new prizes if deemed necessary.
10. AWARDS
Award winners in the Festival (except in the International Showcase) will receive the Gomezito Trophy, alluding to the Farroupilha hero Gomes Jardim and Guaíba’s symbolic tree, the Cypress. In the International Showcase, a certificate will be sent.
10.1. The festival does not offer cash prizes.
10.2. The results will be announced on a date to be defined.
11. COPYRIGHT
11.1. The festival may use the films, photos, technical information, and graphic material from the films to promote its activities through clips, printed material, TV, and to exhibit the selected works on the festival’s online channel/platform.
11.2. Any irregularities related to copyright in films submitted to the festival are the sole responsibility of their producers.
12. GENERAL PROVISIONS
12.1. By submitting and sending the films, the applicant acknowledges and agrees with the entirety of these regulations.
12.2. Any omitted cases in these regulations will be resolved by the organizing committee.
