Festival start: 04 March 2025      Festival end: 23 March 2025

We are happy to announce the Call for Submissions to the 5th Edition of IMPACTE! Human Rights Film Festival of Catalonia, which will take place during the following dates:

March 4 to 23, 2025: Onsite and Online simultaneously

The Festival will be headquartered in Barcelona and will run simultaneously in other cities of Catalonia.

Call for submissions: from September 23rdh to December 1st, 2024.

Films

We are looking for stories that speak out against injustice and human rights violations around the world, films that combine rigorous investigation with narrative and visual treatment capable of impacting wide audiences. Both in fiction and documentary formats.

We are interested in criticism, but also in struggle, denunciation, defense of rights and, specifically, the proposal of alternatives: common aid, solidarity, cooperation.

The topics are free, but always within the scope of Human Rights -both traditional and of new generation-, global Justice and the culture of Peace.

We are especially interested in receiving films addressed to children and young people.

Other topics will not be considered.

A specialized Jury will award two honorary prizes among the selected Feature and Medium-length films, while the Short Film Award will be chosen by online audience voting:

- IMPACTE! Award to Best Feature Film
- IMPACTE! Award to Human Value
- IMPACTE! Award to Best Short Film

All participants —feature and short films— will receive an official diploma, as well as the corresponding official laurel of IMPACTE! Human Rights Film Festival of Catalonia.

TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS

The following formats are accepted:

- Fiction feature films, minimum running time of 70 minutes
- Documentary feature films, minimum running time of 70 minutes
- Documentary and Fiction medium-length films, running time between 31 to 69 minutes
- Short films of any genre, between 3 and 30 minutes

The selected short films will complement the theatre screening of feature and medium-length films, and may be screened as an introduction or as a complement to the Festival's parallel activities. All of them will be watchable on the Festival's website —geolocalized to Spanish territory only—, to be voted by the online spectators to determine IMPACTE! Award to Best Short Film. The possibility of dedicating exclusive screenings to short films will be considered, depending on the thematic coherence and the possibilities of the program and the exhibition venues.

Films must have been completed after 1/6/2023 and not have been screened in Catalonia in movie theaters or TV, nor be available online nor on VOD or similar. The organization reserves the right to program a film that does not meet these conditions, but it will be out of competition.

Films without a Spanish or Catalan version must have english or Spanish subtitles in order to be eligible for selection. Films with dialogues or voiceovers in english must also be subtitled in one of the two languages.

The Festival will subtitle all non-Spanish speaking films to Catalan for the screening in movie theaters.

Films selected must ensure a minimum resolution for screening of Full HD 1920x1080.

Films must be submitted by whoever legally holds their property rights.

In addition to those of exhibition, rights to duplicate video files will be given up in order to supply DCPs for the festival venues and video files for the online version, as well as the rights to edit and use fragments and materials of the film for promotional purposes.

Films will be submitted through the festival online platform Festhome, according to their forms and conditions.

SUBMISSION FEES

€6 for short films (3 to 30 minutes)
€10 for documentary medium-length films (31 to 69 minutes)
€12 for fiction medium-length films (31 to 69 minutes)
€15 for documentary feature films (more than 70 minutes)
€20 for fiction feature films (more than 70 minutes)

No screening fee will be paid.

The selected films will fill up a formal agreement with Associació Impacte Cinema i Drets Humans, organizer of IMPACTE! Human Rights Film Festival of Catalonia, on the technical and legal details indicated in these rules and others.

The Catalan or Spanish version of the selected films will become part of the archive of the Association for its possible subsequent exhibition in educational, pedagogical, awareness-raising, and promotion of human rights traveling or online screenings in Catalonia, always with the consent of the owner or the owner of the rights.

Whoever submits the films authorizes the data provided in the submission to be incorporated into the database of Impacte Association. Film and Human Rights, the entity which organizes IMPACTE! Human Rights Film Festival of Catalonia.
