There will be only one winner per category, although the jury may award one or more special mentions in each of them.

The winning short film in each category, within each section, will receive a prize of €1,500. Except for short films for children, where there will be no financial award.

All prizes will be subject to taxes established by law.

Participation Rules for the Official Sections

Participation requirements

1. Any producer(s) or filmmaker(s) who hold the rights to the works submitted may participate.

2. All films will be accepted regardless of their original recording format, but delivery formats must be .mov or .mp4 only.

3. This call is open only to works completed in 2026 that have not been presented in previous editions of the Festival. Children's short films are the exception: works from 2025 will also be accepted in that category.

4. The works shall have a maximum duration of:

● National Fiction Shorts Section: 25 minutes, including credits

● International Fiction Shorts Section: 25 minutes, including credits

● Animation Shorts Section: 25 minutes, including credits

● Documentary Shorts Section: 30 minutes, including credits

● Canary Islands Shorts Section: 25 minutes, including credits

● Children's Shorts Section: 15 minutes, including credits
Registration

5. The registration period closes on December 31, 2026. 23:59H

6. Participants must register in one of the six possible sections or categories:

● National Fiction Shorts Section (Spain only)

● International Fiction Shorts Section (all countries except Spain)

● Animation Shorts Section (all
countries, including Spain)

● Documentary Shorts Section (all countries, including Spain)

● Canary Islands Shorts Section (Canary Islands only)

● Children's Shorts Section (all countries, including Spain)

Requirements to register in the Canary Islands section:

- Directed by a person or persons resident in the Canary Islands.

- Born in the Canary Islands.

- Filmed at least 50% in the Canary Islands.

- Produced by individuals or production companies whose registered tax address is in the Canary Islands.

- At least 50% of the film and production crew are residents of the Canary Islands.

- To be considered for the Canary Islands section, at least 2 of the 5 requirements above must be met.

For fiction works, the section in which they are entered will be determined by the short film's country of production. For co-productions, this will be determined by the majority production share.

Children's Shorts Section:

Reflective, socially engaged, educational cinema... Short films may cover any theme or genre, must not exceed 15 minutes in duration, and must be aimed specifically at a child and youth audience aged between 3 and 17. Short films from anywhere in the world will be accepted, provided the language is Spanish, whether as the original language or dubbed. Although no cash prize is awarded, a winning short film will be selected by a vote of the children attending the screenings.

7. Registration must be carried out exclusively through an online procedure, and participants must submit their short film through one of the following platforms, in addition to completing all required information:

8. The screening copy must be sent following the instructions that will be emailed to selected participants.

9. The copy submitted with this registration must be the final, definitive cut of the short film. In the event of selection, no new versions of the submitted short film will be accepted.

10. Payment of any fee charged by the viewing platforms is entirely the participant's responsibility and does not guarantee participation in the Festival's official section.

11. Films submitted in their original version containing dialogue in a language other than Spanish or english must be accompanied, without exception, by subtitles in both Spanish and english. Likewise, films submitted with english dialogue must be accompanied, without exception, by Spanish subtitles.

12. No further documentation needs to be sent until the participant is notified by email that their short film has been selected for the corresponding official section.
Final selection

13. From among all the works received during the registration period, a committee appointed by the organization will make a preliminary selection of up to a maximum of 30 short films in each section. The selection committee's decisions are final.

14. Preference will be given to works reflecting the reality faced by women in situations where obstacles to equal development with men still exist. Particular consideration will be given to audiovisual works depicting discrimination and human-rights vulnerabilities affecting women and/or girls. Works related to innovative experiences of empowerment and the fight against the social exclusion of women and girls will also be valued, as will works that promote and/or reflect progress toward equal opportunities between men and women, as well as works reflecting men's contribution to gender equality, shared responsibility, and the balance of personal, work, and family life, among others.

15. The organization will notify all participants individually and in writing (at the contact email address provided at registration) of the outcome of the official selection before it is announced publicly. This notice will be given at least three weeks before the Festival begins. This list will also be published on the Festival's official website (www.festivaldecinedelanzarote.com) before April 19, 2027.

16. Once notified, selected participants must send the information and documentation required in the notification before April 30, 2027.

17. subtitles:

- Works with dialogue or text in Spanish must include english subtitles, in .srt format or burned into the image.

- Works with dialogue or text in english must include Spanish subtitles, in .srt format or burned into the image.

- Works with dialogue or text in a language other than Spanish or english must include both Spanish and english subtitles (double subtitles), in .srt format or burned into the image.

Failure to comply with this rule will result in the disqualification of the work.

Jury

18. To determine the winner in each section, the organization will appoint a specific jury for each section, made up of three members connected to the fields of culture and cinema. The exception is the children's short films section, where the winning work will be chosen by the children themselves.

19. The jury will be appointed one week before the start of the Festival, and its decisions will be final.

20. The jury may declare the prize void.

22. The winning short film in each section will receive a prize of €1,500.

23. All cash prizes are subject to any withholdings required by law.
General

24. The 27th Lanzarote International Film Festival will take place from May 24 to 30, 2027.

25. All works received will become part of the Festival's archive.

26. Producer(s) and director(s) authorize the use of excerpts from the selected works (up to 1 minute) for the promotion and publicity of the Festival in any media.

27. Producer(s) and director(s) of the entered works authorize the use of the works for screening within the various sections of the Festival, should the organization deem it appropriate.

28. Submitting a work within the established deadlines constitutes acceptance of these rules.

29. Any question arising from the interpretation of these rules will be resolved by the Festival's Organization.

30. The organization undertakes to process participants' personal data in accordance
with Article 12 of Organic Law 15/1999 of December 13 on the Protection of Personal Data (LOPD).

31. The Lanzarote International Film Festival collaborates with the Spanish Academy of Film Arts and Sciences on the pre-selection of candidates for the Goya awards in the categories of Best National Short Film and Best Documentary Short Film.

The organization reserves the right to modify the Festival dates, and to cancel or partially or fully suspend the screening of selected works and the activities held during the Festival, in the event of force majeure.

The organization reserves the right to change certain aspects of these rules for reasons of force majeure or due to the health situation at the time.
