The Mairena del Aljarafe Short Film Festival, Mairena Film Festival (here in after MAIFF) will be a cultural event with a program that will host different activities (meetings with industry professionals, 36h short film making rally, projections of the official section...). The festival will be held from October 9 to 17, 2026
in the Seville town of Mairena del Aljarafe.
Cash Prizes: 5,000€
• "1st Prize MAIFF 2026": awarded to the best short film in the competition. It consists of an economic endowment 1200€ + trophy.
• “AAMMA Prize 2026 Award”: it will be awarded to the short film that has proposed the most interesting way of approaching the gender perspective of the contest. It consists of an economic endowment 700€ + trophy.
• Audience Award: will be awarded to the short film that wins the vote carried out by the public that views the selected works during the screenings during the Festival week. It consists of an economic endowment 500€ + trophy.
• Best Director Award: consists of a representative trophy for the winner of said section.
• Best Actress Award: consists of a representative trophy for the winner of said section.
• Best Actor Award: consists of a representative trophy for the winner of said section.
Deadlines
The works can be sent through the Festhome platform from next 8 June 2026, to 10 July. In the case of selection, the organization will contact the filmmakers through the Festhome messaging service to request additional information (synopsis, frames, technical sheet, etc.).
Requirements
• Individual or collective filmmakers may participate, with no limit to the number of works that can be submitted.
• Original free-themed short films will be accepted.
• The maximum duration of the films in the competition will not exceed 20 minutes, including the credit titles.
• Works produced and made before January 1, 2024 will not be admitted to the contest.
• The format selected for the delivery of the short films will be in H264 MP4.
• Registration in the festival confirms participation in this call, and implies acceptance of all its conditions by the candidates. In this way, it supposes the transfer of the rights of exhibition and promotion of the films during the development of the festival both in this edition and in future editions.
• The works will be presented in their original language. When the language is not Spanish, it must include subtitles in Spanish. If the work is selected, it will be a mandatory condition for its participation in the contest that the projection copy be sent with Spanish subtitles.
Between the end of the call and the first days of September, the announcement of the 15 selected works will take place. The MAIFF will take place in the town of Mairena del Aljarafe (Seville), between October 9 and 17, 2026. The screenings of the short films will be between October 13 and 18 in different spaces in the town. On October 19, the gala will be held in which the winners will be announced. Throughout the call, the members of the jury of the official section, who will be audiovisual professionals, will be announced through the festival's social networks.
The awards
On October 17, the winners of the festival will be announced at a gala to be held at the Villa Mairena theater in Mairena del Aljarafe. prizes will be distributed with an economic endowment plus a statuette in the categories of best short film, best short film with a gender perspective and audience award. In addition, special mentions will be granted without economic endowment in the categories of best script, best cinematography, best female performance and best male performance.
