RULES OF THE CALL FOR DOCUMENTARY SHORT FILMS MENORCA DOC FEST 2025

The Menorca Doc Fest is a film and photography festival that aims to raise public awareness through the documentary genre, understanding it as a tool to promote critical thinking about the phenomena of the past and present that affect contemporary society.

Cash Prizes: 3,000€

Specific conditions

a) Ullastre Award for Best Documentary Short Film

The Ullastre Award will be paid in the amount of 1000 € (taxes included), as screening rights or author's rights. The Ullastre Award is made possible thanks to the support of the Guillem Cifre de Colonya Foundation.

The winner of the Ullastre Award 2025 will be part of the jury of the 8th edition of the Menorca Doc Fest (2026).

b) Balearic Award for best Balearic documentary short film.

The Balearic Award is open to producers, directors and distributors from the Balearic Islands. This condition must be accredited by providing official documentation; ID card or certificate of census registration in the case of individuals, or CIF with registered office in the Balearic Islands in the case of legal entities.

The remuneration of the Balearic Prize will be 500 € (taxes included), in concept of projection or author's rights. The Balearic Award is possible thanks to the support of the Servei d'Assessorament lingüístic (SAL) of the Consell Insular de Menorca.

Obtaining the Balearic Award is compatible with obtaining the Ullastre Award and the Fugaz Awards 2026 Candidate Award.

c) Eligible for the Premios Fugaz 2026.

Spanish producers, directors and distributors are eligible. This condition must be accredited by providing official documentation; DNI or NIE in the case of individuals, or CIF with registered office in Spain in the case of legal entities.

The winning short film must submit the subtitle file (.srt) in Spanish once the qualification has been communicated.

It is compatible with winning the Ullastre Award and the Balearic Award.

d) Selected to the educational project Aula Doc.

A maximum of 3 documentaries may be selected to be part of the educational project Aula Doc with schools in Menorca with the aim of working on transversal themes related to the films.

They will receive an extraordinary remuneration of 80 € as royalties (accumulable to the general screening rights and to the Ullastre Award and/or Balearic Award).

16 short documentaries will be selected for the official section. A minimum of four will be from the Balearic Islands.

These films will be eligible for the following awards:

a) Ullastre Award for best documentary short film.

b) Balearic Award for best Balearic documentary short film.

c) Eligible for the Premios Fugaz 2026.

d) Aula Doc. Menorca Doc Fest’s educational project.

2. CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION

Producers, directors and distributors who own the rights to the works they compete with, as well as the images and audios that compose them, may participate.

The short films must be unpublished or have been released after January 1, 2024.

The maximum duration is 30 minutes.
Participants can register as many films as they want.

It is mandatory to provide the subtitle file (.srt) in Catalan or Spanish.

The 16 finalist short films will receive a fee of €60 for screening rights (not cumulative to the Ullastre Award and/or Balearic Award).

Invoices must be submitted in the week following the award resolution. If this invoice is not issued within the established period, it will be understood that the producer, author or distributor rejects the corresponding remuneration.

The selection of the finalist works will be communicated before July 2025 through the festhome platform. In addition, the Ullastre Award, Balearic Award and the Candidate for the Fugaz awards will be made public during the festival (between October 9 and 12, 2025).

Films that induce proselytism, political, religious or hate speeches will not be accepted.
The organization reserves the right to change the rules or aspects of exhibition, which will be duly informed, if there are exceptional circumstances that require it.

The jury may declare the prizes void, if it so deems.

Submission to this call for entries implies full acceptance of these rules and its terms and conditions.

Those selected must deliver, within the deadlines established by the organization, a broadcast copy in .mp4 format H264 quality and, if necessary, promotional materials.

Festhome holds accountable fees festivals by holding the payment of the fees of most newer festivals until they have viewed the submissions, held their festivals and other methods.
