Nou Barris Prepares to Host the Second Youth & Mental Health Short Film Festival and Competition

The district of Nou Barris is getting ready to welcome the second edition of the Youth & Mental Health Short Film Festival and Competition, an initiative organized by Casal de Barri Trinitat Nova – SomLaPera, in collaboration with the Nou Barris District, the Barcelona Public Health Agency, and the Pla de Barris program of the Barcelona City Council.

A New Celebration of Social Cinema in Nou Barris

The festival was created to identify young people's mental health needs, expand awareness, and provide support and resources, while also encouraging audiovisual creativity within the local community.

The project invites participants to explore youth mental health through short films created using mobile devices and other audiovisual formats, turning cinema into a powerful tool for expression, awareness, and community engagement.

The competition is open to any individual, association, or informal group based in Barcelona, regardless of age or nationality. However, the creative process must be led by young people between 15 and 35 years old. All submitted works must address the theme of mental health.

Each participant may submit up to five short films, with a minimum running time of 5 minutes and a maximum of 10 minutes. Films may be produced in any format (film, digital video, or analog video), but must be submitted either by:

Submit Festhome.com

Short films should preferably be in Catalan or Spanish. Films in other languages will also be accepted, provided they include Catalan or Spanish subtitles, or a transcript of the dialogue in either language.

The submission period runs from March 16 to October 12, 2026.

Festival activities will take place from April through November 30, featuring workshops and talks focused on audiovisual creation, artistic expression, and youth mental health, organized together with participating organizations.

Selected films will be screened publicly and will compete for cash prizes, as determined by a jury appointed by the organizers. Special awards will be reserved for the youngest participants (15 to 20 years old), and additional audience awards will be decided by public vote. The jury's decisions are final.

The selected short films will become part of the festival's video library, and the organizers reserve the right to use them for promotional purposes related to the festival.

Please refer to the official rules for complete participation details.

The festival is organized by Casal de Barri Trinitat Nova – SomLaPera, in collaboration with the Nou Barris District, the Barcelona Public Health Agency, the Pla de Barris program, and several local organizations and institutions, including Servei Nou Barris Conviu, Institut Tecnològic de Barcelona, Institut Escola Trinitat Nova, Ateneu Popular de Nou Barris, Casal de Joves de Porta, among others.
