Festival start: 26 November 2026      Festival end: 27 November 2026

The “first and only” fantasy film festival in Mallorca. Nit de MatanZes aims to put Mallorca on the map as a true hotspot for fantasy and horror. After three years of throwing all kinds of genre-driven events — from short film showcases to themed screenings and feature film cycles — its organizers, Oscar Rip and Jota eme Weird, are finally unleashing their very first short film competition this year, packed with terror, blood, and bold, rebellious, in-your-face attitude, at the legendary Mallorcan cinema SALA AUGUSTA.

Their 3 awards are divided into three different categories:

CRÁPULA Award · Crápula title and trophy for the Best Short Film, as decided by the jury.

CRAPULÍN Award · Crapulín title and trophy for the Best Short Film voted by the audience.

Nit de MatanZes SERIE Z Award · Best Balearic genre short film, receiving the “SERIE Z” award.

The winner takes home one VHS and three DVDs of their winning short, plus the chance to release 13 additional DVD copies, which the festival will distribute through selected retail spots and across future festival editions — so the film can get seen, enjoyed, and properly unleashed on the world.

All submitted short films will automatically be considered in the three different categories. It’s important to highlight the origin of the production, whether it’s local, Balearic, national, or international — as well as the genre it falls into.

The only requirements to take part are:

GENERAL

Short films must not exceed 16 minutes in length.

All projects must fit the festival’s vibe and genres: fantasy, horror, sci-fi, trash cinema, camp, savage comedy, punk attitude, and anything involving fluids, monsters, deformed creatures, gore, wild animation, sacrilegious imagery, occultism, sadism, paganism — basically anything that rules and isn’t a total snoozefest.

Any short film without dialogue in Spanish or Catalan must include subtitles in at least one of those two languages.

Short films are accepted regardless of their original production date.

SPECIFIC

There’s only one minimum requirement to win the “Nit de MatanZes SERIE Z Award”: the short film must have been made anywhere in the Balearic Islands, or at least feature a Balearic-based crew or production.
