MÓSTOLES FANTERROR SHORTFEST
Calabaza Films, in collaboration with the Department of Culture, Development, and Tourism Promotion of the Móstoles City Council, announces the First Short Film Festival called “Móstoles FanTerror ShortFest,” aimed at promoting the short film as a cinematic format and the genres of horror and fantasy.
Requirements:
Fiction, animation, or documentary short films produced from January 1, 2024, whose theme is related to fantasy and horror cinema.
Short films must not have a duration of less than one minute (1 min.), including end credits, nor a duration exceeding twenty minutes (20 min.).
Filmmakers from anywhere in the world may participate in this Festival; however, short films shot in a language other than Spanish must include Spanish subtitles.

REGULATORY RULES OF THE SHORT FILM FESTIVAL
“Móstoles FanTerror ShortFest”
1. Calabaza Films, in collaboration with the Department of Culture, Development, and Tourism Promotion of the Móstoles City Council, announces the First Short Film Festival called “Móstoles FanTerror ShortFest,” aimed at promoting the short film as a cinematic format and the genres of horror and fantasy (hereinafter, the “Festival”).
2. All fiction, animation, or documentary short films produced from January 1, 2024, whose theme is related to fantasy and horror cinema, may participate in the Festival.
3. There is no limit to the number of short films that an individual or company may submit to the Festival; all films received that comply with the participation rules will be accepted.
4. Short films whose theme or development is considered inappropriate, harmful, or defamatory will be excluded from participation in the Festival.
5. Short films must not have a duration of less than one minute (1 min.), including end credits, nor a duration exceeding twenty minutes (20 min.).
6. The registration and submission period for short films will be from June 10, 2025, at 00:00 hours, until September 30, 2025, at 24:00 hours. Short films submitted outside the established period will not be accepted.
7. Filmmakers from anywhere in the world may participate in this Festival; however, short films shot in a language other than Spanish must include Spanish subtitles.
8. Contestants participating in this Festival must hold the intellectual property rights of the submitted work, namely, script, music, and image. Participants will be required to submit a sworn statement declaring possession of the aforementioned intellectual property rights.
9. Registration for this Festival will be carried out through the platforms Festhome (https://festhome.com/es)
10. Participation in the Festival has a cost of three euros (3€) per film submitted, with a reduced fee for short films registered before September 1, 2025.
11. To participate in this Festival, the following materials must be submitted: a copy of the short film (in 1080 or 720, H.264 codec), poster, synopsis, 3 frames without subtitles (300 dpi), Spanish subtitles if necessary (if the short film is in a language other than Spanish, in a separate SRT file), filmography, and two photographs of the director.
12. By registering their short film, participants expressly authorize CALABAZA FILMS SL to use images, photographs, and fragments of up to twenty seconds (20s) of the short film, solely for the purpose of promoting and publicizing the event through the official festival website, the organization’s social networks, advertising campaigns, and any other audiovisual, written, or digital medium the organization deems necessary.
This authorization is granted free of charge and with the right to transfer to third parties for the same promotional purposes, without this implying the transfer of commercial exploitation rights of the short film, which will require the prior and express consent of the author or rights holder.
FESTIVAL DECISION AND awards
13. In addition to the organizing committee, there will be a Jury responsible for selecting the finalist short films and choosing the winners.
14. The organizing committee will make an initial selection of the finalist short films, which will then be submitted to the Jury for evaluation.
15. The Jury will select eight short films from those chosen in the first round by the organizing committee, which will become the finalist short films.
16. On October 15, 2025, the organizing committee will contact the eight finalists to inform them of their selection as finalists. The list of finalist short films will also be published on the Festival website and social networks.
17. During the second half of October, the Jury will deliberate and decide the winning short films of the Festival.
The audience award will be granted in person during the Festival, and only spectators attending the screening may vote.
18. The following awards are established:
• Best Short Film: €750 + personalized statuette + Festival certificate
• Audience Award: €500 + personalized statuette + Festival certificate
• Best International Short Film: €250 + personalized statuette + Festival certificate
• InOut Distribution Award for Best Director: Six months of distribution + personalized statuette + Festival certificate
• Young Award: Assisted Flat Rate Distribution
• Best Actor: Personalized statuette + Festival certificate
• Best Actress: Personalized statuette + Festival certificate
• Best Screenplay: Personalized statuette + Festival certificate
19. In accordance with current Spanish regulations, participants are informed that prizes awarded for participation in games, festivals, raffles, or random combinations linked to the sale or promotion of goods or services are considered capital gains.
20. Participants release the organization from any liability arising from plagiarism or any other violation of current legislation that may be committed by any of the participants.
21. If the organizing entity or any collaborating or professionally linked entity detects any anomaly or suspects that a participant is hindering the normal development of the Festival, it may unilaterally eliminate that participant from the Festival.
22. Neither the organizing company nor any collaborating or professionally linked entity is responsible for possible losses, damages, thefts, delays, or any other circumstance attributable to third parties or the Internet that may affect participation and the development of the Festival. The organizing entity reserves the right to cancel any participation or participant if there is suspicion of improper manipulation of data or the Festival. The organizing committee reserves the right to modify communication dates for reasons beyond the organization’s control. In any case, updated dates will always be available on the event’s official website.
23. Participation in this Festival implies acceptance by the participants of these legal rules in their entirety.
24. The law applicable to this Festival will be Spanish law. For the resolution of any controversy or discrepancy that may arise regarding the interpretation or application of these Rules and the terms and conditions established herein, the parties expressly agree to submit to the jurisdiction and competence of the Courts and Tribunals of Madrid, capital.
