Rules and Guideline
ELGIBILITY
● Top Shorts is a juried competition, open to any independent filmmaker worldwide. Works will be considered for competition only if they are of a total running time of 20 minutes or less, and were completed after January 1, 2011. The Festival committee reserves the right to determine the eligibility of any project.
* For the Special Screening category, we accept longer films (20-50 minutes).
● Films produced, financed or developed by a major film studio or television network are also eligible for competition.
SUBMISSIONS
● Films must be available online from the selection day and until July 6, 2015 (YouTube or Vimeo).
● Selected films will be automatically available to watch on Top Shorts’ website. During the days of the competition (July 1-5, 2015), viewers will be able to vote for their favorite film. The film that gets most of the votes will be the Audience Award Winner. The jury will select the winners of any other award.
● Selected films – Filmmakers will send the following files/Documents:
1. Short Synopsis (up to 50 words), including country of production, length and year.
2. Film Poster
3. Three high-resolution stills from the film
4. Director’s biography and filmography
5. Credits list
6. Teaser / Trailer
7. Director’s headshot
● A completed entry form must be submitted with each project. Multiple submissions by the same director and/or Production Company are accepted, but a separate completed form must accompany each film. Unsigned entry forms will be rejected.
● The entry must also include the following: film description (50 words or less), complete production credits, film logline, director’s headshot (digital, 200 dpi min.), director’s bio, list of previous and planned screenings, and (3) stills from the film (digital, 200 dpi min.).
● By submitting this material and signing the release form, you acknowledge Top Shorts’ right to copy any material for the festival’s use.
DEADLINES
● The deadline for submitting is June 20, 2015. Applicants will be notified of their status after Screening Committee viewing.
JUDGING
● Entries are pre-screened by the Festival Selection Committee. This panel, headed by the Festival Director, selects the films from the submission field. These Official Selection Films will be screened on Top Shorts’ website before the competition starts (July 1-15, 2015). The jury panel will pick the festival’s winner of each category, while the viewers will pick up the Audience Award winner of each category. The jury panel is made up of artists, writers, filmmakers and educators.
PUBLICITY
● By signing the entry form, the filmmaker gives the Top Shorts Online Film Festival permission to use all submitted materials, including but not limited to film stills, descriptions, director’s biography and film screening history in any and all forms of media for the express purpose of festival promotion and publicity.
