Waterloo International Film Festival is a fun, relaxed event with films and filmmakers from around the world, highly entertaining gala parties featuring live music, comedy, and DJ's, and film industry professionals as guest speakers.

Cash prizes, and/or engraved statuettes are awarded to the best of the fest in the following categories:

"Best of the fest" - $1000 CDN & engraved Statuette awarded to the top feature film at WIFF

"Best Short" - $500 CDN and an engraved statuette awarded to the best Short film at WIFF

Waterloo Region High School competition
1st place - $250 CDN and award
Runner up - $100 CDN and award

Engraved statuettes awarded to:

"Best performance in a feature film"
"Best performance in a short film"
"Best Director"

Cash prizes, and/or engraved statuettes are awarded to the best of the fest in the following categories:

Rules & Terms

We encourage the submission of international film or video entries, but all entries must be in English or have English subtitles.

All entries must be available for screening during the festival. We welcome Feature Films, Short Films, Documentaries.

You may submit as many entries as you like. Each entry requires its own entry fee. Fees are not refundable.

Only online submissions are accepted.

If your film is chosen to show at the Waterloo International Film Festival, you must send a full quality DCP file no later than 2 weeks prior to the festival screening.

All films should have been completed within 2012-2017.

All awards are based on the overall merit of the entry. Decisions by the judges are final.

Festival does not deal with any copyright issues. All copyright issues should be resolved by the film authors.

Filmmakers and screenwriters retain 100% all of the rights to their projects and materials that they submit to the Waterloo International Film Festival.

Festival organizers have the right to use extracts of the film for promotional purposes.

You agree to indemnify and hold harmless us, our officers, affiliates, employees, and partners from any and all claims and liability arising out of entering or transmitting your film to the Waterloo International Film Festival.

A confirmation e-mail will be sent if your film is selected and approved by the Festival.



  Festhome holds accountable fees festivals by holding the payment of the fees of most newer festivals until they have viewed the submissions, held their festivals and other methods.
