MIFF has been established in 2010 by the Malatya Governership and organised by the Malatya Apricot Research-Develeopment and Promotion Foundation. Every year in November Festival brings together the audience with the most qualified productions throughout the world and also, besides the competition excitement it has been a full cinema week with many events for five years.

MIFF has hosted more than 2000 cinema proffessional from Turkey and abroad so far. Some of the best known guests who have been in Malatya for the festival are Nastassja Kinski (2014), Jim Stark (2013), Rade Serbedzija (2013), John Sayles (2012) Otar Iosseliani (2010).

7th Malatya International Film Festival will open its curtains for the cinegoers and residents in Malatya on 04.11.2016 by the organization of Malatya Governorate and Malatya Apricot Research, Development and Promotion Foundation. Besides providing an opportunity for the audiences to meet with the qualified productions from all over the world, the festival will provide an enjoyable week full of activities. This exhausting but pleasant festival marathon will end after the Award Ceremony which will take place on the 10th November, Thursday. During the Festival, approximately 150 films - 65 feature films, together with the documentary and short films - will meet with the cinegoers. The Festival programme which is composed of the current films, as well as the last productions of the qualified film-makers and the first movies of the newly discovered young film-makers, will meet with the audiences in Malatya. The festival with its previous success on the international features and national short films competitions, has included the national features competition to its festival programme in order to provide moral and material support to the cinema sector.

Premios en Metálico: 12,000€

Best Film, selected by the Jury, will receive a monetary award of $ 12.000 and the
Crystal Apricot Award. The awards are given to the producer of the film. This award
cannot be split between films.

1) Feature films that are over 60 minutes of duration; printed on DCP and suitable for the screening in movie theatres are accepted.

2) For foreign films, the condition for acceptance is that they are completed after January 1st, 2015; they have not been shown on a television station in Turkey and have not been released on DVD in Turkey.

3) For Turkish films, the condition for acceptance is that they are shot and have acquired their Film Usage License after November 1st, 2015; they have not been shown on a television station in Turkey and have not been released on DVD in Turkey. In the case that the film is an international co-production, at least one of the director(s) or the producer(s) must be citizen of the Republic of Turkey.

4) Maximum 10 films are accepted for the competition. The Festival Management selects and invites the filmsparticipating in the competition section.

5) The films that are found suitable for participating in the competition will be announced at the Festival Press Meeting.

6) The films in the competition will be screened in their original language with English and Turkish subtitles. The screening copies of the applicant films whose original language is not English must have English subtitles on them. A dialoguelist in English must also be sent to the Festival in due time, together with a DVD for subtitling purposes.

7) The International Jury will evaluate the films in the following categories: Best Film, Special Jury Award (optional)

8) The Jury has to select the Best Film among the competing films.

9) Best Film, selected by the Jury, will receive a monetary award of $ 12.000 and the
Crystal Apricot Award. The awards are given to the producer of the film. This award
cannot be split between films.

10) The Jury, in the case that it sees necessary, may give a “Crystal Apricot Special Jury
Award” due to outstanding success in only one of the categories of directing,
screenwriting, acting, directing of photography, editing, music andart direction.

11) Deadline for the submissions is September 25th, 2015. The documents that are stated in the “Registration” section below, along with the registration forms, have to be sent so that they arrive at the Festival Centre no later than this deadline, in order that the films that apply the competition can be publicized and published in the festival catalogue. Films that register after this date will not be accepted into the Festival.

12) The screening prints of the films that are accepted for the Festival must arrive at the
Festival Centre by November 4th, 2016.
