"The Emmentaler Filmtage have over the period of three years grown into a professional event which reaches far beyond the region..."
Wochenzeitung Emmental Entlebuch
... and yet we stay the Emmentaler Filmtage! The vitality of shortfilm.
Since the first edition in 2010 the festival has made quite some experiences. Indeed the national media shows interest in an event which so atypically strives to bring the so-called urban short film culture to the countryside whatever the cost.
Since 2010 the number of visitors has almost doubled. Even though the international short film festival Shnit and the Berne film award festival take place in the same month. The overlap in visitors is only marginal. In 2012 80%* of our audience came from the Bernese countryside and prove that the Emmentaler Filmtage are meeting a need.
Short filmsare the result of filmmakers wanting to work according to their taste. Especially in the professional film business actors, directors and writers often have to make a lot of compromises due to the commercial pressure. These compromises render a creative independent working process impossible. That's why filmmakers often cooperate to realize their own projects. Films which satisfy with their elegant approach and their eye for the detail. No gigantic cinema but stories with depth, charm and humor.
A respectful cooperation with the film-makers is one oft the basic principles of the Emmentaler Filmtage. This is the main reason why we don't have a competition at the festival. Instead a collection is taken up and the donated sum is distributed equally among all filmmakers who's films we screen. It is our goal to be able to pay a usual screening fee (60-80 CHF) and at the same time to increase the awareness of the audience that independent filmmaking is not free of cost.
A well-balanced festival program with contributions from all over the world is being shown at the Emmentaler Filmtage once a year. True to its name the festival always includes productions from Switzerland and especially the Emmental region. The entry is free for all. This should enable especially families to visit the festival and at the same time encourage the audience to be brave and explore new types of films.
Eight unique screening rooms full of atmosphere are available to the audience during the festival weekend. Visitors can chose between any of the screenings and that way put together their own festival program. All foreign-language films are subtitled in German. A special family film room offers an exciting program for our youngest guests from the age of 4.
Cozy and a feel-good atmophere are characteristics of the festival that we would like to preserve for the future. That doesn't mean that everything will stay the same. The festival program should allow to discover new things every time and not fall short of the quality of the last years. The image and sound equipment have reached a high standard by now. The choice in food and drinks has been expanded and the outdoor area enlarged. Because in our opinion sitting together and chat should never miss out. We invite you to enter the screening rooms and get enchanted by the world of short films.
Welcome to the Emmentaler Filmtage '13! We are happy to share with you the juwels of short film making. On this website you find all the necessary information about the festival. See you soon in the Emmental!
Terms and conditions for film submission
to the Emmentaler Filmtage
The Emmentaler Filmtage are an event of the short film culture and would like to offer a respectful platform to the filmmakers. There is no competition. Here every film is the best! The entry is free but a collection will be taken up and the donated sum will be divided evenly amongst all contributing filmmakers. The goal of the collection is to pay each filmmaker a customary rental fee of 60-80 Swiss francs.
How to submit a film
Specification:
* Maximal film duration allowed: ca. 60 minutes
* No restrictions in terms of year of production, genre or language
* Several films can be submitted by one person. For each film the submission form has to be filled out separately.
* The submission is free.
The submission deadline for the Emmentaler Filmtage 2013 is May 31, 2013.
The submission process has to be completed on www.emmentaler-filmtage.ch, www.festhome.com or via Reelport.com
Incomplete submissions cannot be accepted.
All filmmakers who submit a film within the deadline receive a definite answer in August 2013.
Films submitted by postal service (preview copies) cannot be sent back due to budget reasons.
Collection
At the event a voluntary collection will be taken up and the donated sum will be divided evenly amongst all contributing filmmakers. All filmmakers receive the same sum, irrespective whether one or several of his/her films have been selected. We cannot guarantee a specific amount.
Films for which we pay a screening fee are excluded from the collection. Screening copies which do not abide by our technical requirements (we support many formats!) and which we have to get transferred by third-party services will receive their share of the collection minus the costs of the transfer. This does not apply to films which we request directly.
If the Emmentaler Filmtage should end up in severe financial difficulties (it never happened and we really don't intend to let it happen!) we keep the right to use the collection as a financial safety net.
The share of the collection can by paid via PayPal or in cash (Swiss francs) by postal mail. (The charges for bank transfers to an account abroad are unfortunately so high that it would take up most of the share.) Filmmakers from Switzerland can send us a payment slip. Please note the film title on the payment slip.
Should the mailing of the collection by post get lost we cannot be held liable.
If we haven't received a PayPal or postal address for the payment of the collection until October 20th, 2013 the share will be divided amongst the other filmmakers.
Selection
If your film is selected for the festival program we might ask you for a high-quality copy of your film in case the submitted copy does not fulfil our requirements. This copy will be sent back to you after the festival.
The submission deadline for the high-quality copy is September 1, 2013 or 3 weeks upon the receipt of our confirmation. We accept different digital film formats. On our website you find detailed information. Screening copies which are not available in sufficient quality may be excluded from the festival program.
Please send films in German without subtitles. For films in other languages German subtitles will be produced in cooperation with the film maker.
