BASES MANIATIC FANTASTIC FILM FESTIVAL OF VALENCIA 2026

This year, the festival will be held from November 8 to 14, 2026.

1.PARTICIPANTS

The festival is of INTERNATIONAL SCOPE. Participation in the festival is open to all filmmakers of any nationality over 18 years of age.

2.CHARACTERISTICS OF THE WORKS

2.1- The festival is focused on the fantastic genre, therefore both Feature Films and Short Films must belong to this genre in any of its variants: Horror, Science Fiction, Fantasy, Black Comedy, Thriller, whether fiction, documentary or Animation. The theme is free. Films of a promotional, advertising, touristic or similar nature will not be accepted. The organization will evaluate all proposals received in the same way.

2.2- The minimum duration of Feature Films in competition will be 60 MINUTES. The maximum duration of Short Films in competition will be 30 MINUTES.

2.3- To participate in the Official Section, the works must have been PRODUCED FROM JANUARY 1, 2023 ONWARDS.

2.4- Short films may be shot in any language. The works submitted for PRESELECTION must be presented in their original version WITH SUBTITLES in Spanish or English if the original version is in languages other than Spanish or English.

3.SUBMISSION.

The deadline for submission and registration of Feature Films and Short Films will be AUGUST 1, 2026.

The registration fee will be €7 per short film and €17 in the case of Feature Films and will be done online, through the submission of the short film via one of the following platforms:

Each author or collective may submit more than one work, but only one work per author may be selected. All documentation received will become part of the festival archive.

The submission fee will be €17 for Feature Films.

4.SECTIONS.

Official section of feature films in competition.

Feature films of fiction, animation or documentaries of any nationality made after JULY 1, 2023 that have not been commercially released in exhibition theaters, video, television, had a premiere at an audiovisual event in the Valencian Community or VOD (video on demand) platforms.

Official section of short films in competition and parallel section.

For short films, the festival consists of the following SECTIONS: Official Short Film Section (Competitive) and Parallel Short Film Section (out of competition).

The organization reserves the right to modify the categories into which the festival is divided.

5.SELECTION PAYMENT.

The organization will pay all short films selected in the OFFICIAL COMPETITIVE SECTION the amount of €100 as a selection fee. This payment will be made to the producer of the short film.

If it is not claimed within the communicated deadline, the right to the selection payment will be lost.

6.JURY.

The jury will be composed of 6 people, professionals from the film industry and representatives of the organization. The jury’s decision will be final.

7.AWARDS

The following AWARDS are established for the official competitive section, awarded by the jury, the audience attending the screenings and the Festival organization:

– Official Short Film Section:
Best International Short Film Award (€500 and Trophy)
Best National Short Film Award (€500 and Trophy)
Audience Award for Best Short Film (€300 and Trophy)
Best Director Award (Trophy)
Best Screenplay Award (Trophy)
Best Cinematography Award (Trophy)
Best Actor Award (Trophy)
Best Actress Award (Trophy)
Best FX Award (Trophy)

The awards will be announced during the awards ceremony. The trophies will be presented to the attending award winners (or to the person authorized by them for this purpose) at the ceremony and will under no circumstances be sent by mail. These awards will be subject to the legally established withholdings. The jury reserves the right to grant as many special mentions as it deems appropriate, and may even declare the awards void if it considers it necessary.

8.ATTENDANCE AT THE FESTIVAL

From the present edition onwards, the following considerations regarding attendance at the festival will be taken into account:

-If the short film or the director are from the Valencian Community, it will be an indispensable condition to present the short film to the audience and participate in the subsequent discussion on the day of the screening of the work. The organization will provide all the facilities within its reach so that the director or representative of the short film can attend. If the director does not attend and does not send a representative, they will lose the right to the selection payment and will not be considered for the audience award.

-If the short film or the director is of Spanish nationality, it will be an indispensable condition, in the event of being awarded, that the director or a member of the team representing the short film attend at least the closing gala.
The organization will provide all the facilities within its reach so that the director or a representative can attend. If this does not occur, the prize will be considered rejected and will be awarded to the alternate considered by the Jury.

-If the short film or the Director is of foreign nationality, it will be an indispensable condition, in the event of being awarded, that they send at least a Thank You Video for the closing gala.

If this does not occur, the prize will be considered rejected and will be awarded to the alternate considered by the Jury.

The festival organization will cover accommodation expenses for one person from the short film.

In the event that more people attend, the additional costs to be covered by the filmmaker will be provided. Attendance must be confirmed within the established deadline.

9.INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

The author or owner will retain their intellectual rights and it will be their responsibility both that they are not subject to any legal liability and that no third-party rights exist.

The submission of a work to Maniatic implies, on the part of the selected participants, the non-exclusive transfer of the material to the organizing entities for use in the different activities programmed with the festival sponsors. Likewise, the organization may use extracts of the work (never longer than 3 min.) for advertising or promotional purposes of the festival.

Submission implies acceptance of these rules.

Any matter not provided for in the rules will be resolved by the Festival organization.

These rules are subject to possible modifications and/or annexes for reasons beyond the control of the organization.

10.SUBMISSION OF MATERIALS

At the time of notification of selection, the materials must be sent within the established deadline and in the required formats.

If thank-you videos are required, they must be in the specific formats required for subsequent editing.

Short films must be delivered in h.264 or DCP format, with subtitles in Spanish or, failing that, English.
