International Festival for independent films, specialized in the promotion and broadcasting of cinematographic and audiovisual works with specific contents.

- Retina A Touch of Humour + 600€ and Trophy: To the best short film in the comedy.

- Retina Arc + 600€ and Trophy: To the best short film about architecture, supported by Fundación Cultural del Colegio Oficial de Arquitectos de León (FUNCOAL).

- Retina Pro-Equality + 600€ and Trophy: To the best short film about Gender Perspective, supported by Consejo Municipal de las Mujeres de Ponferrada y los Servicios Sociales del Ayuntamiento de Ponferrada.

- Retina The Critical Look + 600€ and Trophy: To the best short film committed to Social Reality.

- Retina Youthful Look + 300€ and Trophy: To the best short film made by Young People between the ages of 18 and 35, supported by Consejo Local de la Juventud de Ponferrada.

- Image & Sound Schools Award + 200€ for the best fiction short film made by students of Image and Sound Vocational Training Schools.

- Image & Sound Schools Award + 200€ for the best documentary short film made by students of Image and Sound Professional Training Schools.

- Image & Sound Schools Award + 200€ for the best animation short film made by students of Image and Sound Professional Training Schools.

- Accésits See To Educate 2021 and 150€ to each of the short films of the program “See to educate 2021” that stand out for their values education in values.

All Retina prizes in the official sections in competition will be voted by different professional juries from the world of culture, cinema, education, architecture, social services and youth. In addition to the cash prize, they will receive a representative trophy of the Festival (an artistic piece made of ceramics simulating a Retina).

The Accésits “See to educate 2021” by a jury made up of education professionals.

All the awarded works of the official sections will receive a diploma and recognition laurel that accredits their condition of being awarded at the Festival.

All the finalists of the oficial sections, parallel sections and program “See to educate 2021” will receive a diploma and a recognition laurel that accredits their condition as selected at the Festival.

The organization reserves the right to be able to offer other awards in terms in consideration of the artistic and technical quality of the works that have been submitted.

On Sunday, October 3, 2021 the winners will be contacted and informed in relation to the Retina Awards, held to date.

Economic awards will be paid through a deposit in favour of the person or legal entity that owns the film, subject to the suitable withholding according to the current law. Also, the economic amounts may be modified according to the agreements reached by sponsors before the Festival takes place.

The Festival will not pay any financial amount to the authors or those responsible for the works selected for their exhibition on the festival dates.

TERMS OF PARTICIPATION 19´FICP
19 INTERNATIONAL FILM FESTIVAL PONFERRADA

1) FESTIVAL DESCRIPTION

International Festival for independent films, specialized in the promotion and broadcasting of cinematographic and audiovisual works with specific contents.

Due to the current situation generated by COVID-19, the 18th edition of the Ponferrada International Film Festival will be held from September 24 to October 3, 2021 in person in the theater, applying all the safety and hygiene measures required by health authorities, and online.

The Association “Mi Retina me Engaña” is the organizer of this event, being Ponferrada Council and Castilla y León Regional Government the main sponsors.

2) SECTIONS

- OFFICIAL SECTIONS TO COMPETITION (from September 24 to October 3)

RETINA AWARDS:
Fiction, documentary, animated or experimental short film from every country or nationality that comply with any of the thematic contents of each section.

OS1) A Touch of Humour. Comedy Films. Different styles of Comedy (Romantic, Sitcom, Surreal, Parody, Sophisticated, Musical, Black Humour, Social Criticism …)

OS2) Arc. Films and Architecture. Spatial Perception and Architectural Conception. Rehabilitation, Regeneration and Urban Renovation. Bioclimatic Architecture.

OS3) Pro-Equality. Films and Gender Perspective. Domestic Violence, Sexual Abuse or Harassment, Sexual Diversity, Coeducation, Participation of Women in Working and Social life, Work Life Balance, Roles and Stereotypes, Advertising and Media, Ecofeminism, Glass Ceiling and Invisibility.

OS4) The Critical Look. Content is commited to social reality. Childhood, Adolescence, Youth, The Elderly, Family, Poverty and Social Exclusion, Disability, Violence, Addiction, Education, Bullying, Work, Economy, Health, Housing, Politics, Culture, Human Rights, Racism, Ethnic Minorities, Immigration / Emigration, Interculturality and Environment.

OS5) Youthful Look. Film made by Young People. Theme to be chosen by the film-maker. Productions made by young people between 18 and 35 years.

IMAGE & SOUND SCHOOLS:
Fiction, documentary or animation short films from any Spanish educational center that teach studies related to the professional Image and Sound family can participate.

OS6) Fiction Schools. Theme to be chosen by the film-maker.

OS7) Documentary Schools. Theme to be chosen by the film-maker.

OS8) Animation Schools. Theme to be chosen by the film-maker.

- PARALLEL SECTIONS (from September 24 to October 3)

Fiction, documentary, animated and experimental short and long films can also participate or be invited by the organizers dealing from every country or nationality with the theme selected for this edition: Different views reflecting interests, concerns and expectations that affect young people (health crisis COVID-19, confinement and resistance, education, training, employment, emancipation, social and political participation, culture, leisure and free time, gender equality, sexuality, new technologies and social networks, etc.)

- PROGRAM “SEE TO EDUCATE 2021” (from September 24 and throughout the 2021/2022 school year)

Fiction, documentary, animated and experimental short can also participate or be invited by the organizers dealing from every country or nationality that comply with thematic contents that reflect educational values for children and youth (Responsibility, generosity, commitment, tolerance, humility, gratitude, honesty, respect, family, school, friendship, loyalty, health education, environmental education, solidarity, empathy, equal opportunities, respect for the environment, human rights, etc.).

3) PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS

- Films shot in any format and produced after January 1st 2020, except in the official sections of Image and Sound Schools where audiovisual works made in the academic years 2018/2019, 2019/2020 and 2020/2021 may be presented.

- The maximum duration of the short films participating in the official sections will not exceed 30 minutes, except in the official sections of Schools of Image and Sound will not not exceed 15 minutes.

- Films can only participate in one section.

- Films shot in a language different from Spanish must show Spanish subtitles, with embedded subtitles or a SubRip (SRT) file format.

- The short films selected to participate in the official sections of the contest can be viewed simultaneously in person and in the online edition, if their authors do not show otherwise, through the FesthomeTV platform, during the official dates of the festival and according to the viewing conditions reflected in point 6.

- Films that have been registered or shown in previous editions of the festival or were released in movie theaters in Ponferrada cannot participate.

- The organizers reserve the right to invite films to participate in the parallel sections and complementary activities.

4) REGISTRATION

The submission of the works that participate in the official sections and in the “See to Educate 2021” program must be carried out exclusively online through the Festhome platform (www.festhome.com). It will be mandatory to upload as attachments: technical/ artistic sheet, the poster, 2 frames of the film, photograph of the director and copy of the director´s ID only in the official section Youthful Look. It is recommended to send a promotional trailer.

Those films that want to participate in the parallel sections, in addition to being able to do it through Festhome, can also register and send the works through any online platform (WeTransfer, Dropbox, Google Drive, Vimeo, etc.) to our e-mail (info@ponferradafilmfestival.com). Registration in these sections does not mean the screening of these films in the schedule of the Festival, but they will be checked by a Committee which will decide the selected works.

The deadline for submissions is 30th June 2021.

5) SELECTION PROCCESS

Every section will have a selection committee that will decide the finalists from among all the works and the respective categories. The decision of the selection committees will not be open to appeal.

From 1st September the organizers will inform the selected participants about the decision through the e-mail address they have supplied in the application form in the corresponding section containing personal information or datasheet of each film.

The organizers can change the section of the selected film when it deems convenient.

The selected films will appear in the magazine or the official program and on the Festival website www.ponferradafilmfestival.com
All the selected films will have to upload before 15th September a trailer and a screening copy in HD file with the codec H264 and minimum resolution of 1920x1080 -1080p- in .mov or .mp4 format to Festhome (www.festhome.com)

If any of these online platforms does not offer the possibility to upload the screening copy, it could be sent through another online files delivery system.

6) SCREENINGS IN THE ROOM AND ONLINE VISUALIZATIONS

Every copy of the movies and trailers submitted by participants to the contest will be considered property of the organization and will be included in the visual file of the Festival. The movies finalists of the official sections and the movies selected to participate in parallel sections and Theme Series can be used in cultural non-profit screenings in partnership with other entities.

The producers of every piece of work will allow the use of the trailer requested or a 3 minutes fragment (max) for them to be distributed as promotional and informative material in every media used by the festival (cinemas, public screenings, television, internet etc.).

In the screenings a copy previously requested by the organization will be used.

Online views will be made using the files of the selected movies, which will be converted and stored on Festhome TV's servers, for streaming playback in Full HD and with high levels of DRM security, and will be accessible from www.ponferradafilmfestival.com

The online views of the official sections can only be seen in Spain and free of charge during the 10 days of the festival. Viewers will have to register on the FesthomeTV platform and will be able to buy free tickets (they can only buy one ticket per session) until the virtual capacity is completed.

The online views of the program “See to educate 2021” can only be seen in schools in our environment for free and during the 2020/2021 school year. Educational centers will have to register through our email to register them on the FesthomeTV platform, and be able to access the content. After the viewing, the educational centers will participate in the proposed educational activities (School drawing contest, alternative poster contest, etc) and will be public at www.verparaeducar.miretina.org

8) INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS AND IMAGE PROPERTY

The authorization of the authors or the owners of these rights for the projection of the selected works of the festival is implicit, without contractual obligations on the part of the Association "Mi Retina me Engaña" with the material or intellectual author of the work, nor of any another management company.

9) ACCEPTANCE OF RULES AND REGULATIONS

The participation in this Festival implies the acceptance of the rules and regulations explained above. If any relevant piece of information is missing from the application form or the material attached to it or if deadlines are not met, the piece of work will not participate in the Festival. Any kind of incident that takes place during the festival will be taken care of in the way the organization finds most appropriate.
