15TH EDITION OF THE SHORT FILM FESTIVAL OF PIÉLAGOS ‘PIÉLAGOS EN CORTO’.

The Department of Culture of Piélagos Town Council is launching the 15th edition of the Piélagos Short Film Festival ‘Piélagos en Corto’.

SHORT FILMS IN THE OFFICIAL COMPETITIVE SECTION

Works of maximum 30 minutes and production date after 1st January 2023 will be accepted.

CATEGORIES fiction only

1- CANTABRIA Cantabrian director or Cantabrian registered director with 2 years of seniority.

2- NATIONAL SPAIN (Only fiction) (Only Spanish production)

3- INTERNATIONAL (Only fiction)

For all works, subtitles in Spanish will be required if this is not the language of the dialogues.

GENERAL CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

- All producers or directors who own the rights to the works they submit are eligible to participate.

- Each participant may submit as many works as they wish as long as they comply with the terms and conditions.

- If the language of the dialogues is not Spanish, embedded subtitles in this language will be required in the video. This requirement must be met at the time of registration, otherwise the work will not be considered for the official competition.


- Works selected in previous editions will not be accepted, but works that were not selected may be submitted as long as they comply with the rest of the requirements of the official rules.

Entries can only be submitted ONLINE via the platforms specified on the social networks and the website at the time of the opening of the deadline.

The initial selection of a work to form part of the official programme and be screened during the festival does not imply its subsequent nomination for any of the awards.

The entry period begins on 1 September 2024 and ends on 15 January 2025.

Once an entry has been entered into the competition, it may be withdrawn from the competition, but the fees will not be refunded.

The organization assumes that the persons or groups that enter the works have the rights to exhibit them, as well as the authorisation to collect the award in the case of collective authorship. In any case, the organization is exempt from any liability that may arise from the infringement of these rules.


SELECTION

A committee formed by members of the festival will select from among all the works received, those works that will participate in the official competitive section of the festival, these members may be assisted by audiovisual professionals from the Autonomous Community of Cantabria or the rest of Spain.

The list with the complete list of selected works (February 2025), as well as their nominations (March 2025) will be published for the knowledge of all participants, both on the website and Facebook profile of the festival and through the different platforms for the submission of works.

The initial selection of a work to form part of the official programme, and therefore to be screened during the festival, does not imply its final nomination for any of the awards.

The participants authorize the organization to use stills, photographs and extracts from the films (maximum 15 seconds) for their diffusion in any communication and promotional support, in order to promote and disseminate the festival.

The festival organizers will contact the selected films to inform them about the technical requirements and the sending of the screening copies. This contact will be made individually and only through the e-mail address indicated in the registration form (details of the presenter of the work).

To facilitate the presence at the closing gala of representatives of each of the NATIONAL CATEGORY NOMINATED entries, the festival will cover the cost of accommodation for 2 people in a double room in a 4-star hotel on the day of the gala.

To facilitate the presence at the closing gala of representatives of the WINNING entry in the INTERNATIONAL CATEGORY, the festival will cover the costs of 2 nights' accommodation in a 4-star hotel in a double room.

The invitation includes accommodation with breakfast in a double room, not including additional meals or other services.

Travel will not be covered by the festival, however, a pick-up and drop-off service to the hotel will be provided on the day of arrival, and also on the day of the march. All other travel will be at the guest's own expense, unless otherwise indicated by the festival organizers.

OFFICIAL JURY OFFICIAL SECTION

It will be made up of a committee of between 6 and 8 people, all of them from the Cantabrian cultural sphere and, where appropriate, national, including the director of the festival, who will have the right to speak but not to vote.

This committee will be in charge of viewing, evaluating and choosing from among the selected works, those that will be nominated and awarded with the Dunas de Liencres and Costa Quebrada awards.

The festival organizers may invite a relevant figure from the world of national film (director, producer, actress, actor...) to form part of the official jury and, where appropriate, to preside over it.

The president of the jury will have a casting vote in the event of a tie or doubt in any final decision.

The festival organisers may seek non-binding advice from this committee for the selection of possible candidates for the Valdearenas and Cantabria Infinita Valores Sociales awards, the final decision will be made by the festival organising team in consensus with the Department of Culture of Piélagos Town Council.

ACCEPTANCE OF THE RULES

Participation in the 15th edition of the PIÉLAGOS International Film Festival implies the acceptance of all the sections of these rules, as well as the resolution issued by the organization as a consequence of any problem that may arise, including errors in the communication of selections and/or omissions, and which are not included in these rules.
