We understand that cinema is one of the most influential artistic disciplines in society, the expression of cinematographic language transcends and surpasses the barriers of the big screen, leaving an indelible mark on the memory and imagination of each spectator. For this reason, the Chiloé International Film Festival FICH 2025 becomes the first audiovisual event that, within the region, exhibits Chilean and international cinema in different time slots, developing programs that include retrospectives of national filmmakers with extensive experience, and activities associated with the mediation of content and cinematographic language to massify the participation of the people who inhabit our Island.
In this 8th version, seven will be the different strips in charge of giving life to the exhibition of films. Five competitive categories: International Feature Film, National Feature Film, International Short Film, National Short Film and Regional Short Film; a Retrospective Focus; and a Children's Strip.
International feature films in different languages must include Spanish subtitles.

All selected films must submit a film file in .mov H264, ProRes 422, or a DCP separate from the screening copy.

Rules for the 8th Chiloé International Film Festival (FICH) 2025

To expand access to the arts and cinema in Chiloé, the Corporación Cultural Fílmica Chilota has held the Chiloé International Film Festival (FICH) since 2018. This free, annual event focused on cinema includes film screenings and audiovisual training opportunities for children and youth (FICH School) and amateurs and professionals (FICH Laboratory).
The FICH has five competitive sections (Regional Short Film, with films made in the south of the country; National Short Film; Latin American Short Film; Latin American Feature Film; and National Feature Film); two non-competitive sections (Retrospective Focus and Children's Section); Cinema Outside the Theater (public screenings of competing films); FICH School (documentary film and animation workshops for children and young people); and FICH Laboratory (masterclasses and specialized workshops taught by jury members).
1. OUR OBJECTIVES
To contribute to the cultural development of Chiloé through the organization, production, and dissemination of the 8th FICH 2025, facilitating access for the Chiloé community to the screening of diverse and outstanding films and to educational spaces related to cinema.
2. DATES
The competition will take place in the city of Castro, southern Chile, between December 1 and 6, 2025.
3. OFFICIAL SELECTION
3.1. OFFICIAL SELECTION COMPETITION CATEGORIES
I. FEATURE FILM COMPETITION
National and International Feature Films: Selection of films in the fiction, animation, documentary, or experimental genres, Chilean or foreign (from Latin America), with a minimum duration of 50 minutes. Films in competition must have been produced between 2024 and 2025.
Five films will be selected in the National Feature Film category.
Five films will be selected in the International Feature Film category.
II. SHORT FILM COMPETITION
- National and International Short Films: Selection of films in the fiction, animation, documentary, or experimental genres, Chilean or foreign (Latin American), with a maximum of 30 minutes (credits included). Competing films must have been produced between 2024 and 2025.
- Five films will be selected in the National Short Film category.
- Five films from Latin America will be selected in the International Short Film category.
- Regional Short Films: Selection of films in the fiction, animation, documentary, or experimental genres, produced in different regions of Chile, with a maximum of 30 minutes (credits included). Films in competition must have been produced between 2024 and 2025.
- Five films will be selected in the Regional Short Film category.
3.2 SCREENING BAND
I. CHILDREN'S BAND
We will feature screenings of films specifically aimed at children on the main island of Chiloé. During the five days of the festival, the program will include films designed specifically for this small, but very large audience, who will be able to enjoy the screening of children's films through a non-competitive band.
4. GENERAL CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION
a) Works completed by January 1, 2024, are eligible to participate.
b) Works submitted for the competition, in the various categories, will be evaluated in a pre-selection process conducted by the festival's Programming Team.
c) To participate, filmmakers must register on the FESTHOME website, which is the only way to be part of the process.
d) Submitting a work for this call implies full acceptance of these rules. Specifically, by submitting their application form, the undersigned declares that they have the power to effectively authorize the public communication of the work during the festival period, on December 1 and 6, 2025, in the city of Castro.
In accordance with Chilean Law No. 17,336 on Intellectual Property, the signatory of the application also declares that, in the event that their project compromises, affects, or includes the total or partial use of works protected by national or international intellectual property laws, and whose copyright holders are individuals other than the project applicant, they have the express authorization to use the work given by the copyright holder, complying with the formalities indicated in these rules and without prejudice to the exceptions contemplated in Title III of the aforementioned law. Authorization is the permission granted by the copyright holder in any contractual form, to use the work in any of the ways and by any of the means established by intellectual property legislation.
e) The competition organizers reserve the right to make any decisions it deems appropriate for cases not covered by these rules.
f) Works that have participated in the pre-selection stage and/or competitive section of previous versions of the FICH will not be accepted.
g) The producers and distributors of the films included in the Official Selection, as well as those that win awards in the various categories, agree to include the phrase "Official Selection – 8th Chiloé International Film Festival" in their advertising and press materials, using the Festival logo (laurel). This commitment applies to both commercial theatrical releases and the distribution of the film, with or without physical media.
h) The producers and distributors of the films in the Official Selection expressly authorize the FICH organization to exhibit their films up to three (3) times in non-profit screenings in different locations throughout the Chiloé archipelago as part of traveling exhibitions and replicas generated by the FICH. Applicants agree to be aware of this clause when submitting their application.
i) The producers, distributors and directors of the films in competition expressly authorize the FICH organization to use fragments of the film (in audiovisual and audio format) and frames for dissemination in the written press, radio, television, digital media, digital platforms and social networks such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube.
5. JURY
It will be composed of national and international figures from the audiovisual, arts, and cultural world.
Persons directly associated with the competing works will be ineligible to serve on the jury.
The jury's decision is final.
6. AWARDS
The jury for the various official categories of the 6th Chiloé International Film Festival will award the following prizes:
I. Feature Film Competition:
- Best International Feature Film Award / Cash Prize + statuette
- Best National Feature Film Award / Cash Prize + statuette
II.- Short Film Competition:
- Best International Short Film Award / Cash Prize + Statuette
- Best National Short Film Award / Cash Prize + Statuette
- Best Regional Short Film Award / Cash Prize + Statuette
7. REGISTRATION DATE AND SUBMISSION OF MATERIALS
Registration via the FESTHOME platform will be open from July 25 to September 30, 2025.
The Official Selection will be announced during the month of November on the website www.cinefich.cl. By submitting these rules, the selected films automatically agree to authorize image excerpts for the promotion of the Festival's Official Selection through the media and its various distribution channels.
Participants will be notified in a timely manner via Festhome if they are not selected.
Screening copies must be sent no later than November 25, 2025, via the Festhome digital platform or via Google Drive to the following email address: cinefich@gmail.com
