EIGHTEENTH INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL
DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL OF URUGUAY

Human and technological

ATLANTIDOC / October 29th through November 9th, 2024.

1. THE INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY FILM FESTIVAL OF URUGUAY

It takes place annually with the aim of presenting a panorama of new documentary productions, bringing to our country the best and most diverse materials of the genre, as well as the training of good documentary filmmakers in the region, as we have been doing since the first edition of the festival, with good success. The programming criteria is based on the quality of the works, with quality being understood as the virtues of form and content presented by the documentaries. The experience of these years has been very positive and Atlantidoc already has a place of consideration among all documentary filmmakers in the world, recognising it as the only festival of its kind in Uruguay. It highlights the works of young filmmakers while giving an important space to outstanding documentary filmmakers from all over the world. And each year it promotes quality content from the history of the genre, both in Uruguay and around the world.

Registration to the Festival is free of charge and participation in the Festival implies acceptance of these regulations.

2. ATLANTIDOC 2023 will feature:

A) COMPETITION SCREENINGS.

Productions with the following characteristics will be admitted: documentaries to be screened in digital format, duration between 5 and 100 minutes, completed as of September 2022.

For the works in Competition, the following prizes will be awarded to the documentaries judged to be the best by the different juries. Each award pays tribute to a filmmaker who has left an important path, pioneers in some cases and fundamental support in others:

ATLANTIDOC AWARD for the best documentary of the Festival, Félix Oliver Award.
BEST URUGUAYAN DOCUMENTARY AWARD, Mario Handler Award.
BEST IBERO-AMERICAN DOCUMENTARY AWARD, Eduardo Coutinho Award.
BEST FIRST OPERA PRIZE, Kristina Konrad Award.
BEST DOCUMENTARY SERIES AWARD
BEST SHORT FILM AWARD, Ferruccio Musitelli Award.
MONTEVIDEO INTENDENCIA DE MONTEVIDEO AWARD to the best Uruguayan project of the WIP.
ACCU AWARD to the best documentary, Ronald Melzer Award.
SIGNIS AWARD to the best documentary of the festival, María Blanca Pígola Award.

The three-member Juries, made up of artists, film experts and renowned critics, appointed by the organisers, will award the prizes. The special prizes will have their own juries, made up of representatives of the awarding institutions. Persons with interests in the production and/or exploitation of the films presented in competition may not be members of the Jury.

The members of the Jury firmly undertake not to publicly express their opinions about the films submitted for their consideration before the official announcement of the awards.

For the Documentary Series Award, the first chapter of the documentary must be submitted for consideration.

The Jury of the ACCU (Uruguayan Film Critics Association) is elected by that institution and will act in parallel to the organisation of the Festival, awarding the corresponding prize.

And this year, the SIGNIS Jury (World Catholic Association for Communication) joins the Festival by providing an international jury for its award.

The awards will be presented to the directors and producers of the winning films or to those who represent them at the Closing Ceremony of the Festival, to which all are invited.

The Festival Organisers will put into competition the works they consider most suitable for such purposes, in accordance with the guidelines followed by all international documentary film festivals. Documentaries will not be accepted in the programme if they are not presented with the corresponding completed and signed Entry Form.

Each jury will have to consider a maximum of 12 films for their decision and will see them well in advance of the festival.

The presentations of the selected documentaries will be in cinemas and
streaming platforms or television channels, geo-referenced to Uruguay only. The Festival Organisers will decide on the programme schedule and the dates and times of the screenings of each film.

B) THE INFORMATIVE SHOWING includes:

- Documentaries already screened in Uruguay or prior to the production deadline, which due to their interest justify the programming.
This Showcase will provide specialists and the general public with a wide panorama of creative documentaries by professional and renowned filmmakers.

C) PARALLEL SECTIONS will have specially invited material to be shown during the Festival.

The programmed films or videos will have in common their thematic unity, author or origin.

The organisers reserve the right to reject, for the Competition Exhibition, those films or videos that do not comply with the conditions indicated in these Regulations.

Propaganda films will be excluded from the Festival, as well as educational films exclusively for classroom support, or purely commercial films.

6. PARALLEL ACTIVITIES.

Seminars and workshops will be given by invited national and foreign experts, as well as meetings of documentary filmmakers from the region. All the activities of the festival are aimed at the general public, with no limitations whatsoever, except for the age recommendations of the works on show. The workshops are normally for filmmakers from LATIN AMERICA, although students from other countries are also accepted upon presentation of their complete bio-filmography. Since the first year, the Screenwriting Workshop has received more than 140 projects, most of which have already been completed and have a good track record, with first class international teachers.
