Founded in 1973, Curtas Festival do Imaxinario is the oldest festival and the largest event dedicated to fantasy, science fiction and horror cinema in Galicia. Located in Vilagarcía de Arousa, the festival is a must-see for enjoying the premieres of the best genre feature and short films, as well as a wide range of parallel activities that include exhibitions, meetings, presentations, workshops, concerts, international guests, and much more. All artistic expressions of the fantasy genre converge in the International Fantastic Film Festival of Galicia. Recognized as one of the best genre festivals on Earth by Dread Central, the world’s leading horror media outlet with millions of monthly readers. And proud member of the Méliès International Festivals Federation (MIFF) presents the Melies d'Argent award for best European Fantastic short film.

The Jury's decision shall be final.
The Jury may grant special mentions to highlight technical and artistic aspects of the works in competition.

Awards may be shared (ex aequo).

**Audience Awards**
Attendees of Curtas Festival do Imaxinario will be able to vote through the Festival App for the Audience Award for Best Short Film and the Audience Award for Best Feature Film.

PARTICIPATION RULES AND REGULATIONS
CURTAS FESTIVAL DO IMAXINARIO
54th EDITION · 2026

1. PARTICIPATION

Curtas Festival do Imaxinario opens the call for entries for its 54th edition (2026) to:

Short films and feature films

Fantastic genre: horror, science fiction, fantasy, thriller, etc.

Both live action and animation

Of any nationality and in any language

The submission of works for consideration by the Festival's Programming Committee will be carried out exclusively through digital platforms:

Deadline for receipt of viewing copies:
August 7, 2026

2. CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION

The Programming Committee will consider only those works that meet the following conditions, according to each section:

FANTASTIC OFFICIAL SECTION

(Short Films and Feature Films)

Production date
Works produced between 2025 and 2026

Not previously screened in Galicia
The selected work must reserve its Galicia premiere for the Festival

The Festival reserves the right to program works from previous years or those already premiered in Galicia out of competition.

Duration
Short films: maximum 20 minutes
Feature films: minimum 60 minutes
The Festival may make exceptions

Work in progress
Work copies will be accepted if the work is not finished by the close of the call.

Formats
Digital submission: DCP, MOV, MP4, etc.
Other formats will be accepted only in exceptional cases.

Subtitles
Subtitles in Spanish, or
Subtitling material: download link + dialogue list and/or subtitles in English.
If there is distribution in Spain, the distributor must provide a subtitled OV copy.

ALUCINE OFFICIAL SECTION

(Feature Films)

Production date
Works produced between 2025 and 2026

Not previously premiered in Galicia
Fantastic theme with high Gore and/or Black Humor content
The selected work must reserve its Galicia premiere for the Festival

Duration
Feature films: minimum 60 minutes
The Festival may make exceptions

Work in progress
Work copies will be accepted.

Formats and subtitles
Same conditions as the Fantastic Official Section.

“FEITO EN GALICIA” OFFICIAL SECTION

(Short Films)

Production date
Productions between 2025 and 2026
It will be valued if they have not been previously screened in Galicia

Nationality / Authorship
Galician production or at least 20% accredited, and/or
Direction of Galician origin or with more than two years of accredited residence in Galicia

Duration
Maximum 20 minutes
The Festival may make exceptions

Formats
Digital submission: DCP, MOV, MP4, etc.

Subtitles
Subtitles in Spanish and/or English
If there is distribution in Spain: subtitled OV copy

3. SELECTION

Selection notification:
September 7, 2026, through the enabled platforms.

Selected films will receive an additional entry form.

The Festival will not individually communicate non-selections.
Works that do not receive notification will be considered not selected.

Mandatory promotional material
Registered persons or entities must provide promotional material:

Photographs
Posters
Press kit
Trailer, clips, etc.

All material must be sent by digital means.
The Festival reserves the right not to return said material.

Broadcasting rights
The use of fragments (max. 3 minutes) for promotion and dissemination is authorized.
The works guarantee and assign the rights solely for screening at the Festival.

Withdrawal of works
Once the selection is confirmed, the work cannot be withdrawn.
The Galicia premiere is guaranteed, according to the requirements of each section.

Selection or an award does not imply an automatic invitation (travel, accommodation, or per diem), remaining at the Festival's discretion.

5. SCREENING COPIES

Delivery deadline:
September 25, 2026

Preferred digital submission: DCP, MOV, MP4
The Festival may reject copies that do not meet technical requirements.
In the case of physical media, it will be returned within a maximum period of 20 days after the Festival.

6. PROGRAMMING

The organization will decide dates, times, and number of screenings.
Screenings may be modified due to programming needs or force majeure.
All modifications will be communicated in a timely manner.

The Jury's decision shall be final.

8. LEGAL RESPONSIBILITY

The participant will be solely responsible for copyrights and any legal responsibility derived from the content of the work.

9. ACCEPTANCE OF THE RULES

Registration implies full acceptance of these Rules and Regulations and their possible Annexes.
The interpretation of the same will correspond exclusively to the Festival organization.
