The Festival Villa del Cine is a four day experience where the streets and theaters of Villa de Leyva, Colombia become a stage dedicated to celebrate, encourage and reward the seventh art.

VILLA DEL CINEMA FILM FESTIVAL 2026

The general guidelines for submission and participation provide binding regulations for all matters and procedures from the submission of the film to the participation of a film in the festival. Here you can find out what needs to be completed by what deadline, what rights releases are required, and what materials need to be provided to Villa del Cine.

INTRODUCTION

The Villa del Cine Festival was born under the promise of creating an inclusive space in the film industry dedicated to true film lovers. With the Festival we want to make artists grow and in turn highlight the culture that is generated around cinema in Colombia, and thus build a more participatory and empowered society of their stories.

Films can be submitted to one or more of the sections mentioned above. The person is responsible for the accuracy of the information provided in the online film submission form (hereinafter "the submitter") selects the appropriate section(s) during the film submission process .

Villa del Cine is a festival accredited by ANAFE (National Association of Film and Audiovisual Festivals, Samples and Events of Colombia) and is subject to its guidelines.


SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

GENERAL REGULATIONS

• Only films that have been registered can be considered for selection.

• deadlines: (the following deadlines must be met without exception):

Film registration.

Standard: April 1 to July 31.

Announcement of the official selection:
September 3.

Festival Date: September 23, 24, 25 y 26.

• Projections can only be made with the express approval of the corresponding section. Applications must be sent to inscripcionesvilladelcine@gmail.com

• Films that have been sent and seen for previous editions of Villa del Cine cannot be registered again.

•Short films and completed feature films are eligible for entry from January 2024 onwards.

• The Festival does not make distinctions between fiction and non-fiction and both options have a place in any of its sections.

• Participating feature films must have a minimum duration of (50) minutes for documentary and (70) minutes for fiction. (debut).

• The winning project of Work in Progress undertakes to include the logo of the companies that award the prize and the logo of "Festival Villa del Cine - Post-Production Award" in the final cut of the film, as well as finishing the production of the same in a term not exceeding 12 months. Once finished, it must be presented in the 2027 or 2028 edition of the Villa del Cine Festival. (Work-In-Progress)

• The participating National feature films must be Colombian. This includes co-productions with other countries, but Colombia is the country with the highest percentage of participation.

• International feature films must not be Colombian. This includes co-productions with Colombia, but Colombia is the country with the lowest percentage of participation.

• Short films may not exceed 29 minutes in length.

• National Videoclips may not exceed 10 minutes in length.

• The Work in Progress will only be presented to the juries. They must have a Teaser, trailer, a fragment of the film or a 10-second video presenting the title of the film. This is done for public viewing during the Festival.

• The VR must be able to be viewed from any Smartphone and the VR BOX glasses; without the need for external equipment (Short films must have a 4k or 8k resolution)

• The Festival Director reserves the right to rule on any case not provided for in these guidelines.

• Each submitter will receive written notification of the result of the screening selection.


FILES FOR SELECTION

The films must be sent in their original version for the selection process. The films in Spanish do not require translation. Films in other languages must be subtitled in Spanish.

File in digital format:

The films can be sent to the festival through digital platforms such as: Drive. Vimeo. Mega. Youtube (private user) or through the platforms mentioned above.

Recommendations: Do not use links that expire, that the weight of the file does not exceed 4GBs for Short Film.

Other technical formats accepted for selection exams are Blu-ray and DVD to the address:

DECLARATION OF RIGHTS ON THE PRESENTATION OF THE FILM
Villa del Cine will only accept the submission of a film if the applicant is the holder of all the rights of use of the film necessary for the submission and use in the context of participation in Villa del Cine, as specified in the paragraph of the Guidelines generals. for Presentation and Participation, and if the sender can also effectively grant Villa del Cine these rights. Villa del Cine reserves the right to demand adequate proof of these rights and to reject the presentation if it is not provided.

GUIDELINES FOR SELECTED FILMS

GENERAL REGULATIONS

Only officially selected films can participate in Villa del Cine. The invitation to participate is issued by the Festival Director or the section heads, respectively.

The programming of the selected films is also carried out by the Director of the Festival or the heads of each section, respectively. Each film can be screened up to five times during the festival (understood as traditional screening and digital streaming). In addition, participants can authorize a sixth screening of the selected film during the festival in the corresponding section of the Participation Form.

To participate in Villa del Cine, the submitter (hereinafter or after signing the participation form, referred to as "the participant") must accept the invitation in writing, send the film before the deadline and provide the festival with documents, media and information.

Each film presented in the Villa del Cine selection receives a certificate of participation after the festival.

OBLIGATIONS OF THE PARTICIPANTS

No film may be withdrawn from the festival program after its participation has been publicized.

Participation in the festival requires unconditional compliance with all the rules established in these guidelines. Producers, distributors and other persons or organizations submitting a film must ensure that any third party connected to the production accepts their participation in the festival. Additional terms and conditions of participation apply for individual sections.

The Director of Villa del Cine reserves the right to decide on any case not provided for in these guidelines.


OFFICIAL LOGO AND ADVERTISING

The entrant must ensure that the official logo of the festival is clearly visible in all advertising and promotional measures for the participating films. DOCUMENTS, MEDIA AND INFORMATION REQUIRED

The acceptance of the invitation obliges the participant to provide promotional and press material, to authorize its publication for the uses established in the General Guidelines for Presentation and Participation.

• Photos, press kits, posters.
The participant must provide the following material:

• Stills and a portrait of the director, with captions, in electronic format (300 dpi JPG 13 x 18 cm)

• Film poster in electronic format (300 dpi JPG of 13 x 18 cm).

• Long and short synopsis of the film.

• 5 or more Stills and/or frames of the film.

• Artistic statement or director's statement.

• Press Kit as Adobe Acrobat PDF file (maximum 3 MB).

• Teaser, Trailer or Fragment of the film (Mandatory for Work in Progress)

Villa del Cine will transmit this material to third parties for the editorial coverage of Villa del Cine. The images will also be used for Villa del Cine's publicly available print products (festival publications) and online media (websites, apps, social media) where they will remain available without any time or territory restrictions.

Film for the online media and platforms of Villa del Cine

The participant must provide the film for the presentation, transmission and retransmission via streaming for the online media and platforms of Villa del Cine.

The fragment of the film can be published by Villa del Cine for public use within the context of its online media (in particular websites and applications), without any type of time or territory restriction, even in the form of a non-downloadable file ( transmission).

The internal archive of Villa del Cine
In the long term, Villa del Cine must keep a digital copy of each participating film in its internal archive to keep it as a point of reference for the festival's identity and its programming work. as well as for the profile of its sections. The films in the Villa del Cine archive are exclusively available to festival employees for internal use.


RIGHTS OF USE

With the registration through any means, the participant freely grants Villa del Cine the non-exclusive and sub-licensable right without territorial restrictions to use the film, as well as the press and the aforementioned promotional material for the purposes of presenting the film in Villa of Cinema, in particular for this purpose.

The concession of the following rights is valid indefinitely, but can be revoked at any time: use of the film in the internal archive of Villa del Cine; the use of photographs for Villa del Cine's publicly accessible print and online media and the use of the extract from the film.
The participant declares and guarantees that he is the owner of all the rights of use necessary for the use of the film in the context of this agreement and that he is in a position to effectively grant Villa del Cine these rights. The participant affirms that any third party involved in the production and distribution of the film has agreed, when necessary, to its use in the context of Villa del Cine as specified in this agreement. The participant guarantees that by using the film in the context of this agreement, the rights of third parties, including the persons depicted in the film, are not infringed.

The participant will indemnify Villa del Cine from all claims by third parties, in particular by third-party copyright holders, that they may pursue against Villa del Cine. Any alteration of the rights granted that the participant may become aware of must be immediately communicated to Villa del Cine. Villa del Cine has the right to take appropriate measures to defend itself against third party claims or to exercise its rights. The participant will coordinate their own measures with Villa del Cine in advance. The compensation also includes the reimbursement of the costs incurred by Villa del Cine as a result of any necessary legal search for its rights and / or legal defense, as long as they are not reimbursed by third parties. Other claims by Villa del Cine regarding breach of warranty will not be affected.
