IMPORTANT: Due to the health situation caused by COVID-19, the festival will be held under regulations that the health authorities allow within the schedule of the festival, these can be public, hybrid or online streaming.

1. WORKS REQUIREMENTS
Theme: Feature films, short films and music video clips must belong to the Fantasy or Horror genres, including all its sub-genres and variants (thrillers, documentaries, black humor, science fiction, etc.).
• SHFF is a festival dedicated to the fantasy and horror genre, whose objective is to rescue cinema and transform it into a reference to spread it from Chile to the world.
• SHFF opens the doors to the world and its filmmakers, generating a market and strong ties with festivals in America, Europe and Asia.
• SHFF creates a unique and playful space to present the different artistic facets related to cinema.
• SHFF is more than a festival; it is an experience, where everyone can be protagonist.
2. CONTEST CATEGORIES
General considerations:
• For the aforementioned categories, there will be a single application form on this platform.
• If your work is selected, the documentation described in point 4 will be necessary.
Important, "please read": If the project is NOT in Spanish language, it must have subtitles in Spanish.
• The application to the festival authorizes it to use fragments of the material for promotional and advertising uses as deemed necessary.
• The application to the festival authorizes it to use the winners of the contest in itinerant exhibitions in Chilean cities that will be held during the period between festivals.
• The selected works may not exceed the following deadlines according to category:
Feature films: Production after January 1, 2021.
Short films: Production after January 1, 2021
VideoClips: Production after January 1, 2020
Animation Short Films: Production after January 1, 2020
A.-FEATURE FILM:
The competition is aimed at the exhibition of films which belong to the genres whether fantastic, documentary or experimental, Chilean or foreign. All according to the formats established in the technical sheet. All the film that participate in this category cannot have been exhibited previously in Chile either broadcast medium or any kind of platform (it is not excluding in the request if the case warrants it).
The category is subdivided for registration, programming and awards purposes for:
• International Feature Film Competition
• National Feature Film Competition (Chile)
For all works that have musical material registered in the Chilean Copyright Society (SCD), a letter of authorization from the musicians will be required where they assign the reproduction of the material delivered to SHFF within the works (which will be used for exhibitions in the context of the festival), indicating that it is non-profit in it in addition to the use of photographic materials, or others registered under licenses. (Item only applies to Chilean material)
B.-SHORT FILM:
The films should not to exceed 20 minutes as maximum duration. (Projects that exceed this time will also be evaluated. In case the quality justifies exceeding this limit).
The Short films are allowed to use any kind of audio-visual technique. For example, animation, video camera, stop motion, Cell phone camera etc…
The films will have to be submitted in a standard format compatible with most of the existing video players in the market or sent in high quality digital format.
The category is subdivided for the purposes of registration, programming and awards into:
• International Short Film Competition
• National Short Film Competition (Chile)

C.- MUSIC VIDEO:
The competition is aimed at filmmakers, bands, video clip producers, independent artists and record companies.
The duration of the video clip may not exceed 8 minutes (Non-exclusive)
It is not allowed to use materials / content which intellectual property rights are not submitted by exclusive owners or someone who has the legal authority to represent the owner of the rights.
Theme: horror, suspense, fantasy, myths and legends, science fiction.
The organization does not assume legal accusations that derive from unauthorized submission of copyrighted materials.
In the case of bands (application only in Chile), an authorization letter is required in which the reproduction of the material delivered to SHFF is allowed (which will be used for free exhibitions in the context of SHFF), indicating that there are no committed fines in addition to the use of photographic materials, or others registered under licenses.
This category will be subdivided for registration, programming and awards purposes in:
- International Video Clip Competition
- National Videoclip Competition (Chile)
Note: The director of the Videoclip will award the prize and if the Director is not present on the day of the award, the prize will be given to a representative of the Band.
Pre-selected video clips can be viewed at:
• The YouTube channel of the festival.
• SHFF in all its communications of the pre-selected video clips, finalists and winners will always use the link to the YouTube channel or Vimeo of the artist himself, he will never make personal use of the video clips.
D.- ANIMATION SHORT FILMS
The maximum length of the submitted works should not exceed 20 minutes. (not exclusive)
The works may use any type of audiovisual animation technique, ranging from animation, cell phone, video camera, stop motion, etc.
The works must be delivered in a standard format compatible with most of the existing players in the market or sent in high quality digital format (according to the rules).
- There will only be one category for this segment (short films).
- Entries may be submitted using any animation method. Works requiring stereoscopic viewing will not be accepted.
3. SELECTED WORKS DELIVERY METHOD
The selected works must be sent together with the registration form provided by the festival through the following means:
• Via email
• Via Wetransfer, FTP, or any means that may be the best option for both parties
• Via film festival platforms: Festhome
Film, forms and materials required by the platform.
Material not registered by formal means, delivered by hand or delivered to a member of the production will not be accepted. Material delivered via these routes will be automatically discarded.

Upon acceptance of a film to the official selection the film must be subtitled:
• subtitles are the responsibility of its’ producers
• In any other language, subtitles must be in Spanish
4. REGISTRATION FORM

• Official poster of the feature film, short, in a print size of at least 50x70 cm and a maximum of 70x100 cm, print quality 300 dpi. In the case of video clips, a poster will not be necessary
5. Deadlines
The projects can be submitted to the festival under up these guidelines until September 01 - 2020.
6. THE JURY
The jury will be made up of film directors, specialized members, and international guests.
7. EVALUATION CRITERIA
The festival commission will select according to the following criteria:
• Originality and creativity of work
• The relationship with the theme of the festival
• Artistic quality and script
Works already presented in other festivals will be accepted, always declaring the circuits prior to this festival.
Works previously published on social networks, YouTube or any other public medium will not be accepted
8. NOTICE OF SELECTED WORKS
The projects in competition will be announced publicly before the festival on different official platforms. And the authors will be notified by email.

10. DELIVERY FORMATS
If your project is selected, you must send by download link in the following format:
Digital format:
• HD 1080p only with the following export (send without menu, without adjustment bars)
• H.264 codec
• Resolution: 1080p
• Audio Channels: Two (stereo)
• Audio Sample Rate: 48 kHz
• Audio Bit Depth: 16 or 24 bits
Works in a language other than Spanish must include embedded subtitles or an attached .srt file
Other format:
To send by traditional mail in physical format (DVD or Blu-Ray), request data via e-mail.
11. PROJECTION
The production will determine the order and date for showing the projects within the dates of the festival. It will also announce on the official platforms of SHFF the schedule and days.
12. BASIC KNOWLEDGE STATEMENT
The works presented in this festival have full knowledge of the bases and acceptance of the requisites to participate.
These rules are subject to possible modifications and/or annexes due to causes beyond the organization.
