MDF is a documentary film and photography festival that aims to show aspects of society that are not broadcast in theaters, the media or the usual audiovisual distribution channels.

It will show national or international cinematographic works and documentary photography reports that have as their theme social or political awareness, environmental protection, journalistic or historical research, show some form of activism in favor of human rights and respect for the environment Or, value positively human relationships and the diversity of cultures.

Event dates
The MDF competition sections take place between October 21 and November 1, 2021.

< A > ULLASTRE AWARD. BEST DOCUMENTARY SHORT MDF 2021

1. Participants:
Producers, directors and distributors from any country who are the holders of all the rights of the works with which they compete, as well as the images and audios that make them up, can participate.
Conditions of the works in competition:

2.Best short film MDF 2021
They may not contain content that is disrespectful to any person, group, group or entity.

They cannot induce proselytism, or a specific political or religious discourse.
The works must be presented with at least a subtitle support in Catalan or Spanish.
The documentaries will be broadcast in Catalan or in Catalan subtitles.
The duration must be a maximum of 30 minutes.
Up to a maximum of two works can obtain an honorable mention from the jury.
The works must have been carried out after 2018.
Up to fifteen audiovisual works will be selected for the competition.
Each participant can present a maximum of two works.
Twelve finalist documentaries will be selected.
4 documentaries from among those selected will also be selected for AULA DOC FEST. These 4 films will be part of an online educational project, for all interested schools, which consists of a viewing and didactic unit to work on cross-cutting issues in the classroom through audiovisuals and documentaries specifically.

3. MDF Awards 2021
The jury will be made up of filmmakers and documentary film specialists.
Best Documentary Short Award: € 700
For the works not awarded and selected in the MDF 2021 contest, the authors will receive as public screening rights the amount of € 50 per short film.
A maximum of two honorable mentions may be given to the works that the jury considers.
4 finalist documentaries will be selected for the AULA DOC FEST. These 4 films will be part of the online educational project, between October 1 and December 16, for all interested schools, which consists of a viewing and the delivery of a didactic unit carried out by the MDF educators to work transversal themes in the classroom through audiovisual and documentary specifically. They will receive a compensation of € 80 for being part of the DOC FEST CLASSROOM (cumulative to the selection as a finalist).
It should be emphasized that one of the characteristics of the MDF Award is that there is a first prize, but the selected shorts are also recognized for having been selected.
Collection of the prize and selection of the short to contest: once the verdict of the jury has been given (November 1, 2021), the winner of the MDF 2021 best documentary short award and those selected will receive an email with the data to be able to send the invoice and receive the prize. Those responsible for the works selected (and not awarded) for the MDF 2021 PRIZE must send the invoice between November 2 and 21, 2021.
The winner will be part of the jury for the MDF2022 Best Short Award and will be a guest at the festival.

4. Requirements for registration:
Films can be shot in any language.
They will always be presented with the support of subtitles in Catalan or Spanish.
The deadline for submission of works ends on August 13, 2.021 at 11:59 p.m.
Publication of the selected works: September 10, 2021.
Registration is done through the procedure with the following two steps:
1st. Festhome, filling in the participation form of the digital platform. If any of the data is missing, the participation of the work will not be valid.


2nd. Shipment of the work. For WeTransfer or any other download service that does not expire (sender: menorcadocfest@gmail.com) in projection quality in .mp4 format, and H264 compression at 8MB / s or higher. The title of the work, the name of the author and the same contact email address as in the registration must be indicated in the delivery message.

5. Quality of the works:
The organization reserves the right to make a selection of the works presented based on criteria of technical and creative quality.

6. Jury:
The Jury will be made up of professionals from the world of audiovisual, photography and representatives of civil society. The prizes can be declared void if the jury so deems it.

7. Exhibition of works:
The selected works will be screened in sessions open to the public between October 24 and November 1, 2021.

8. Announcement and awards ceremony:
Sunday, November 1, 2021, in the closing session to be held in Mercadal, at 9:00 p.m., in the Multifunctional Hall of Es Mercadal (Menorca).


9. Responsibility:
The people who present the works in this contest are responsible for any claims for the rights of third parties of the works presented.

10. Right to change bases:
The organization reserves the right to change the bases or aspects of the exhibition that will be duly informed if there are exceptional circumstances that require it.

11. Acceptance of the bases: Submitting a work to the contest implies the acceptance of all the points of these bases.


< B > TRAMUNTANA AWARD. BEST DOCUMENTARY PHOTO PROJECT MDF 2021

Participants:
Photographers or groups of photographers may submit.
They may not have content that disrespects any person, group, group or entity.
They cannot induce proselytism, or a specific political or religious discourse.
Photographers can submit up to a maximum of two projects for the award.
Projects must be completed after January 1, 2018.
2 finalist projects will be selected. The winners will be able to travel to the festival to participate in the presentations of their works.
Requirements for registration:
The deadline for submission of works is until August 13, 2021 at 11:59 p.m.
Private communication to those selected: September 10, 2020.
Registration is done through the procedure by filling in the participation form on the FESTHOME digital platform, covering the management costs for each work submitted. If any of the data is missing, the participation of the work will not be valid.
Participants can sign up by submitting their projects:

Registration is done by sending the work by WeTransfer or any download service that does not expire (sender: menorcadocfest@gmail.com). A single document that must contain a dossier with the title of the work or photographic project, the name of the author, the curriculum or photographic trajectory, photographic project in competition (between 15 and 30 photographs).

The document must be in PDF format.

Quality of the works:
The organization reserves the right to make a selection of the works presented based on criteria of technical and creative quality.

Awards:
The award will allow 3 international photographic projects. A first prize for the best documentary photographic project and two finalists.
First prize: Economic prize of € 500 and a photographic exhibition within the framework of the MDF 2021.
Selection of two finalists: € 200 each finalist and digital projection of the works within the framework of the festival.
The 3 finalists are invited to attend the festival. (Travels From Dènia, Barcelona or Palma)
The winner will be part of the jury for the MDF2022 best photographic project award.

Jury:
The Jury will be made up of professionals from the world of audiovisual, photography and representatives of civil society. The prizes can be declared void if the jury so deems it.

Exhibition of works:

The award will award 3 national and international photographic projects. A first prize for the best project and 2 finalists. The exhibition of the winner and the finalists will be held in Alaior (Travels from Barcelona, Valencia, Palma).


< C > ILLA DE L'AIRE AWARD. BEST NATURE DOCUMENTARY (MEDITERRANEAN SEA)

1. Participants:

Producers, directors and distributors from any country who are the owners of all the rights of the works with which they compete and of the images and audios that make them up can participate.




2. Conditions of the works in competition:

They may not have content that disrespects any person, group, group or entity.

They cannot induce proselytism, or a specific political or religious discourse.

The duration must be a minimum of 28 minutes. In this edition (2021), the films in competition must have a theme linked to the Mediterranean Sea and make mention of its marine environment.

4 finalists will be selected for the contest.

The 4 documentaries will become part of the AULA DOC FEST. These 4 films will be part of an online educational project between October 1 and December 16 for all interested schools that consists of a viewing and delivery of a didactic unit carried out by the MDF educators to work on cross-cutting issues in the classroom through audiovisual and documentary specifically.

The works must be presented with at least one subtitle support in Catalan or Spanish.

The documentaries will be broadcast in Catalan or in Catalan subtitles.

Works will be selected for exhibition during the MDF 2021 that will be screened in special sessions (out of competition) within the framework of the same festival.

A maximum of one work can obtain an honorable mention.




3. MDF Awards 2021

The jury will be made up of filmmakers and documentary film specialists.

BEST DOCUMENTARY AWARD IN THE MARINE ENVIRONMENT: € 900

For the works not awarded and selected in the MDF 2021 contest, the authors will receive as public exhibition rights the amount of € 250 per documentary.

An honorable mention may be given to the works that the jury considers.

It should be emphasized that one of the characteristics of the MDF Award is that there is a first prize, but the selected shorts are also recognized for having been selected.

The Scholarship is aimed at photographers who are interested in focusing their work on documentary photography in Menorca during the months of October or November 2021 to carry out a documentary photography photographic project related to Menorca.

 

1 Stay at the Casa d'Artistes (Menorca).
Aid for the production of € 300.
Displacement of the artist from Barcelona, ​​Denia or Mallorca, if he does not reside in Menorca.
The winner will present the creation processes (exhibition, talk or open workshop, depending on the project in process) within the framework of the Menorca Doc Fest between October 28 and November 1, 2021.

The organization reserves the possibility of offering more creative stays depending on the quality of the projects presented.

 

How to take part?

You must submit the following documentation in a single PDF document (form: www.menrocadocfest.com).

The index of the document will be as follows:

Biography / statement (statement of intent).
Brief letter of motivation.
Sample of recent work with graphic and / or textual information. Maximum 3 projects.
Proposal to develop during the stay (work in progress or new).
Artistic CV. It must include personal data (full name, place and date of birth, email, phone number, website or links to social networks).




The document can be in Catalan, Spanish or English.

Resolution: August 25, 2021

Stay between October 4 and November 4.




Acceptance:

Once the resolution has been notified, the artist will have 5 days to accept or reject the scholarship. By accepting it, the artists agree to:

Accept the terms of the call.
Ensure your participation during the agreed dates (* not postponed).
Authorize the use of visual documentation for informational purposes and as an archive of the House of Artists.


< E > PREMI BIOSFERA. BEST DOCUMENTARY SHORT DOCUMENTARY BIOSPHERE RESERVES MDF21

1. Participants

Producers, directors and distributors from any country who are the holders of all the rights to the works with which they compete can participate. And also the images and audios that make them up.



2. Conditions of the works in competition. Best DISSEMINATING short film of territories declared BIOSPHERE RESERVE.

They may not contain content that lacks respect for any person, group, collective or entity.
They cannot induce proselytism, nor a specific political or religious discourse.
Les obres s’han de ser presentar amb almenys un suport de subtítols en català o castellà.
The documentaries will be broadcast in Catalan or in Catalan subtitles.
The duration must be a maximum of 18 minutes. (no minimum duration)
Up to a maximum of two works can receive honorable mention from the jury.
The works must have been completed after 2017.
Each participant can submit a maximum of two works.

3. MDF Awards 2021

The jury will be made up of filmmakers and specialists in documentary cinema.

Prize for best short documentary about a biosphere reserve: € 500
