"The 9/16 Film Fest is an international film festival in vertical format that aims to foster the creation and promotion of audiovisual content specifically designed in 9:16.
Our objectives are:
- Democratize creation, allowing creativity to flourish independently of available resources.
- Promote collaboration and reward excellence in vertical content, providing a platform for emerging filmmakers.
- Stay at the forefront of technology, following consumer trends, and educating in this format.
The selection is divided into several categories:
- Fiction
- Animation
- Microdocumentary
- One-Minute Video
- Video Art (Music, Dance, Performance...)
- Capaces. (Short films focused on raising awareness and sharing experiences, achievements and challenges of people with disabilities) Category in collaboration with AVIVA
These categories can also compete for:
- "Most Viral" Award
- "9/16" Award (best technical adaptation to the vertical format)
The event also includes non-competitive sections such as screenings, talks, gastronomy..."

GENERAL CONDITIONS:
9/16 Film Fest is an international short film festival in which both national and international artists can participate.
The format: vertical 9:16, silent or with sound, and produced after January 1, 2020.
The categories of the 9/16 Film Fest will be as follows:
Fiction Short: Narrative short films.
Animation Short: Short films made with animation techniques.
Videominute: Tell us a story in less than one minute (fiction, advertising, etc.).
Video Art (culture, fine arts, music...): Video as a vehicle for artistic creation. Concepts, emotions, visual styles, and experimentation with form and content. (Includes: Music, dance, performance...).
Microdocumentary/Vlog: Short films in the documentary genre or Vlog.
"Capaces" (Short films focusing on raising awareness and sharing experiences, achievements, and challenges of people with disabilities. Category in collaboration with Fundación AVIVA Salamanca, an organization providing assistance and services for people with disabilities in Salamanca).
All submitted works can compete for a maximum of 3 awards:
Winner of the category they participate in.
9/16 Award: Short films from any category that have adapted best to the 9:16 vertical format.
"Most Viral" Award: Short films from any category that get the most unique views from the public through the festival’s official Instagram account.
The maximum duration of all categories will be 5 minutes, except for the "Videominute" category, where each piece’s maximum duration will be 1 minute.
Each category will have a maximum of 5 finalists, who will be nominated for the first prize in the category they are entered into.
Videos can be in Spanish, Catalan, Galician, Basque, or a foreign language. All must include subtitles (see technical participation requirements).
Each participating artist can submit a maximum of 5 works, which can be in the same or different categories.
The selected short films will be shown on the festival’s social media before the festival’s screening so that they can be voted by the public for the "Most Viral" category.
The authors of the selected works may present their film if they wish before the screening.
The decisions of the Selection Committee and Jury are final.
The projection copies of the nominated short films, and thus participants, will become the property of the festival for promotional use in future editions.
The production companies and/or distributors of selected or awarded audiovisual works must include a written reference to the award or selection at the beginning of each copy they distribute for exhibition in theaters, other film festivals, Blu-ray, TV, or VOD platforms, as well as in all printed informational and promotional material (pressbook, posters, etc.). This reference will consist of a text with the selection or award given, along with the 9/16 Film Fest’s corporate logo and name. These will be provided along with usage guidelines by the festival’s organization.
The festival will be held in person.
Artists over 18 years old or under 18 years old with parental or representative consent can register one or more works (up to a maximum of 5) they have authored or have intellectual property rights for.
Authors: Students and workers in the audiovisual field, as well as the general public creating audiovisual content and, of course, directors and professionals in the film, communication, television, or journalism industries, may participate actively in the festival.
It is not a requirement for the works to be unpublished for acceptance, and they may have been presented or exhibited on social media or other national and international festival calls.
REGISTRATION:
Registration for the festival and submission of short films must be done online through Festhome: https://festhome.com/es
Registration deadlines are from April 15 to May 20, 2025.
The registration fee will be €19 per short film submitted, regardless of the category. The "Capaces" category will be free of charge.
TECHNICAL PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS:
Participants in the festival must provide the following elements for the registration to be valid:
The corresponding short film, with a maximum of 5 minutes and/or 1 minute if entered in the Videominute category.
A trailer of 15/10 seconds.
Technical sheet: Title of the short film, year of creation, duration, language, country, details of the creator team (name and roles), and actors/actresses, along with a photo of the creator team.
All submitted short films must include Spanish subtitles in srt format.
The technical requirements for sending the copies are as follows:
Container file type: MP4 or MOV Compression: H.264
Only short films or videos created and edited in a vertical (9:16) orientation for projection on vertical screens or mobile devices will be accepted.
When registering the work, the participant will be asked to fill in some data that will form the registration sheet. Therefore, the participant submitting online does not need to send anything by postal mail or email. Any inquiries will be addressed through the following contact channels: inscripciones@916fest.es
SELECTED SHORT FILMS:
The selected short films for the festival will be notified by email or phone to the interested parties, as will the non-selected ones.
All selected short films competing for awards during the festival will be published on the festival’s official channels: website and social media.
The selected films will appear in the Festival Program and will be screened in public sessions during the festival dates. The screening dates will be announced through the Program, website, and festival's social media.
The selected short films must provide a quality copy of the short film in order to participate in the ‘Most Viral’ award.
AWARDS:
The winners of each category will be announced at the award ceremony during the in-person festival gala.
The jury will be composed of professionals from the film and cultural world, and members of the Organization with a voice but no vote. Their decision will be final.
Any additional awards not listed in these rules will be announced through the festival’s communication channels (website, press releases, social media, etc.).
If no one from the winning short film attends the award ceremony to accept the prize or sends a thank-you video, the prize’s monetary reward will be forfeited.
Intellectual Property and Usage Rights:
Participants declare that they are the holders of the intellectual property rights of the images, sound, music, and other elements used in the short films and will be responsible for any claims from third parties regarding their WORKS and content. The 9/16 Film Fest is not responsible for third-party content included in the WORKS, understanding that each production has acquired the necessary permissions.
The AUTHORS and ARTISTS retain their intellectual property rights over the WORKS and/or INTERVENTIONS submitted to the festival.
By registering for the festival, the AUTHORS and ARTISTS, in accordance with the terms and requirements outlined in these Rules and Conditions, authorize the Organization to exhibit the WORKS during the festival and use the work and/or fragments of it for promoting and publicizing the festival on the website, social media, and other communication channels such as TV, press, etc.
The AUTHORS and ARTISTS grant the Organization the rights to use, reproduce in whole or in part, communicate, and apply their works for any other use without prior consultation and without any obligation for compensation.
The AUTHORS also authorize the partial or complete exhibition of the WORKS before the festival, for advertising purposes or public voting, within the festival’s digital platforms (social media, website, etc.).
The AUTHORS and ARTISTS also authorize the Organization to use their name, image, and work without limitation for promotional purposes, in public, private, and/or virtual spaces, before, during, and after the festival, without this granting them any right to receive compensation and without the need for prior consultation.
By participating, all participants fully accept these rules and the resolution of any issues not covered by them.

Festhome holds accountable fees festivals by holding the payment of the fees of most newer festivals until they have viewed the submissions, held their festivals and other methods.
