The LimaDocs Documentary Film Festival will take place from May 14 to 23, 2026. In its second edition, the festival invites filmmakers from all over the country to submit their feature films, short films, and medium-length documentaries completed between January 2024 and the closing date of this call for entries.
The festival will announce on social media the various prizes sponsored by allied entities and which will be awarded at the end of the festival. Some of them will include a monetary incentive along with official recognition.
The registration period begins on November 7, 2025, for all categories and will end on February 25, 2026.
Some categories will have a registration fee starting from the opening date, while others will have a fee starting from the payment period or, in some cases, an increase, which will begin for all categories from February 6 to 25, 2026.
The festival accepts documentary works in all their forms: Works may be of any theme and technique; only the duration must respect the maximum time established for each category. Furthermore, they may explore the possibilities of audiovisual cinematic language, personal and unconventional forms, and may, of course, explore the limits of the documentary format itself in its infinite subgenres and combinations.
The festival prioritizes premieres. National works that have premiered or been previewed at any other festival in the country will be automatically disqualified, although the organizing committee reserves the right to make exceptions. The selected works may not be withdrawn from the festival or exhibited in Peru before their official presentation at LIMA DOCS.
The festival will feature four competitive documentary sections: 1) Peruvian Feature-Length Documentary Competition, 2) Peruvian Short and Medium-Length Documentary Competition, 3) Peruvian Young Short and Medium-Length Documentary Competition, and 4) International Short and Medium-Length Documentary Competition. The filmmakers themselves will be responsible for assigning each work to the appropriate category. Furthermore, individuals associated with the selected films must maintain confidentiality regarding their participation until the official announcement by the festival.
The YOUNG COMPETITION invites filmmakers aged 18 to 25, including university students, students from institutes and study centers, as well as young filmmakers not affiliated with institutions, and emerging creators of short documentary films. Registration is free throughout the entire process.
