Launched in June 2024, the Abia International Film Festival (ABIFF) debuted with a spectacular inaugural edition held from 20th to 22nd December 2024. It was a transformative celebration of creativity, storytelling, and culture, attracting filmmakers, enthusiasts, and industry professionals from across Nigeria and beyond. The next edition promises to be even bigger and better—stay tuned as we announce the official dates soon!

Abia International Film Festival (ABIFF): General Rules and Terms for Entry

The following rules and terms were applicable for the previous edition of the Abia International Film Festival (ABIFF). These guidelines ensured a smooth and enjoyable experience for all participants and stakeholders.

1.Eligibility

1.1. Submissions were open to filmmakers worldwide, including professionals, amateurs, and students.

1.2. Films of all genres and lengths, including features, documentaries, shorts, animations, and experimental works, were eligible.

1.3. There was no entry fee for film submissions.

1.4. All films submitted for consideration had to comply with the festival’s theme and objectives of fostering creativity, innovation, and cultural exchange.


2. Submission Guidelines

2.1. Submissions were accepted exclusively through the official ABIFF platform.

2.2. Filmmakers were required to submit their entries via a designated online form or email, along with a screener link or downloadable file.

2.3. Films submitted in languages other than English required accurate English subtitles.

2.4. The deadline for submission was communicated through the official ABIFF channels.

2.5. Participants had to ensure that the submitted films were their original work and did not infringe upon any copyrights or intellectual property rights.


3.Selection Process

3.1. All submitted films underwent a review by an independent jury comprising industry professionals.

3.2. Selected films were notified via email and announced on the festival’s official website and social media platforms.

3.3. The selection decision was final and non-negotiable.


4.Participation and Attendance

4.1. Attendance to the festival was open to all participants and the general public.

4.2. Entrance into the festival’s events, including film screenings, workshops, and panel discussions, was free for all attendees.

4.3. Participants were required to adhere to festival schedules and guidelines as communicated by the organizers.


5.Code of Conduct

5.1. All attendees were expected to conduct themselves respectfully and professionally throughout the event.

5.2. Any form of harassment, discrimination, or inappropriate behavior was strictly prohibited and would result in removal from the event.

5.3. Participants were responsible for the safety and security of their personal belongings.


6. Intellectual Property and Rights

6.1. By submitting a film, participants granted ABIFF the non-exclusive right to screen the film during the festival.

6.2. ABIFF reserved the right to use submitted materials (e.g., posters, trailers, and stills) for promotional purposes related to the festival.

6.3. The copyright of the films remained with the filmmakers.


7. Disclaimers

7.1. ABIFF was not responsible for any technical issues or errors related to the submission or screening of films.

7.2. The festival organizers reserved the right to make changes to the schedule, events, or terms without prior notice.

7.3. Participation in the festival implied acceptance of all the rules and terms outlined herein.
