Short films and micro-films on the different aspects of brain; its amazing abilities, but also its diseases.

The Solé Tura Award has three prize categories:

€1,500 for first prize
€1,000 for second prize
€500 for third prize

A special honorary award as decided by the public will also be presented to one of the participating works, which will be available on YouTube at the end of the call for entries.

The cash amount prizes will be subject to the current withholding tax in Spain.

Acceptance of the award implies the transfer of copyright for a period of one year and includes the distribution of the winning entry. After this time has elapsed, the director can personally distribute the work, although it must always state that it has won the IX Solé Tura Award.

In the event that the directors do not explicitly state otherwise, the organisers of the Solé Tura Award reserve the right to make use of the works submitted in order to distribute them in any channels they deem appropriate and for an unlimited time for non-commercial purposes.


First: Brain Film Fest

The Brain Film Fest (BFF) is a forum dedicated to highlighting and promoting the creation of short films about all aspects of the brain and its amazing abilities, but also its diseases. BFF is organised by the Uszheimer Foundation, Pasqual Maragall Foundation and Minimal Films.

The Brain Film Fest is currently calling for entries for the Solé Tura Award, which includes three prizes as judged by a jury and one Micro-Movie voted by the public on-line.

Second: Free submission

Submitting a work to the Solé Tura Award film competition is free of charge.

Third: BFF programme

The BFF programme contains no separate categories, so all films submitted will be subject to the same evaluation and selection criteria.

Fourth: BFF activities

In addition to the Solé Tura Award film competition, the Brain Film Fest will also organise other social, cultural and medical events related to the brain.

Fifth: Participation requirements

- Individuals or groups of people can participate who have produced works on the situation of people or groups, social intervention experiences or scientific dissemination. In general, any film related to the brain within contemporary society.

- The works must display creativity, an innovative approach, scientific rigour and/or a strong storyline.

- The premiere date of the film submitted cannot be earlier than 2018.

- The films cannot have been submitted to previous editions of the Solé Tura Award.

- The length of the film must not exceed 20 minutes or 2 minutes if it is a Micro-Movie

- Works submitted must be subtitled in either Catalan or Spanish in the event that they have been partly or totally shot in any other language.

Sixth: Electronic submission

The works can be submitted by email at and are subject to the following submission conditions:

- Electronic submission of the film through Vimeo, with password access download option, or through WeTransfer/Dropbox, preferably in Full HD (1920x1080) quality.

- Attached technical file and online form: Participants must fill out both a cast and crew file and online form at to submit a film, indicating the desire to participate in the competition and acceptance of these terms and conditions and the jury’s decision.

- The submission form includes the director’s name, film’s title, a brief 300-character synopsis, duration, shooting format, email address and contact phone number and it must be personally signed by the individual participating in the competition. By accepting the terms, the person who submitted the audiovisual work waives any legal, criminal or commercial responsibility of BFF with respect to copyright, which is assumed to belong to the individual submitting the work to the competition.

- Selected movies exceeding 6 minutes in length will require that a trailer be sent for screening at the award ceremony.


The deadline for submissions is 11.59 pm on 29 November 2019 or December 27 if it is a Micro-Movie

Seventh: Solé Tura Award jury

A selection committee will choose the finalists at the end of the call for entries. The jury, presided by Albert Solé Bruset, will also include people from the medical sector and film production professionals.

The jury’s decision will be final.

Participants in the competition will renounce any challenge to or actions against these terms and conditions. The jury’s decision and public vote will be announced at the award ceremony in Barcelona between March 19th and 22nd, 2020.

The prizes must be accepted in person or by a duly nominated representative of the award-winner. The award will not be presented to the winner if he or she is unjustifiably absent from the ceremony and has not sent any representatives. In this event, the amount will be added to the following year’s prize money.
