FINCA’s seventh edition is centered on Climate Justice, addressing global warming causes and consequences with a socio-environmental approach. We aim to connect a fair green transition to economic equity, peoples’ sovereignty and gender equality. FINCA appears as a gathering point for reflection among artists, activists and specialists who see art as a fundamental tool when it comes to changing the cultural paradigm and overcoming inequality.


Our Official Section includes the following competitive categories:

Our program includes the following themes: Biodiversity, Climate Crisis, Ecofeminism, Econsciousness and Sustainability, FICDH - Human Rights, FINCA for Kids, Energy Horizons, Youth, Mother Earth, Food Sovereignty and We Are Water. We also present the Focuses, defined by specific themes or geographic criteria; Windows, featuring films screened in other festivals; and Retrospectives, highlighting global and local filmmakers’ work, as well as special presentations by guest countries.

OPEN CONVOCATORY

The DerHumALC Multimedia Institute (IMD) is pleased to announce to national and international filmmakers, producers and distributors that from December 26, 2023 to February 20, 2024 the call will be open to receive films from the 7th Festival Environmental Cinema International [FINCA].

The Festival, of a competitive nature, will be held in person, from June 13 to 19, 2024 in the City of Buenos Aires. The official programming will be announced during the month of May 2024.

The seventh edition of FINCA focuses on Climate Justice, addressing the causes and consequences of global warming from a socio-environmental perspective. We seek to link the just ecological transition with economic equity, the sovereignty of peoples and gender equality. FINCA is presented as a space for meeting and critical reflection between artists, activists and specialists who believe in art as a crucial tool to change the cultural paradigm and overcome inequalities.


REGULATIONS AND CONDITIONS 2024

1 > DATES
The 7th edition of the International Environmental Film Festival - [FINCA], will take place in person, from June 13 to 19, 2024 in the City of Buenos Aires.

Films that cover socio-environmental problems, made from January 1, 2022, may participate in the competition. The registration deadline is February 13, 2024.

2 > OBJECTIVE OF THE FESTIVAL
The objective of the International Environmental Film Festival is to present the best films that cover all socio-environmental problems from multiple and original points of view, promoting critical cinema that contributes to social transformation.

3 > SECTIONS AND ANNUAL FOCUS OF THE FESTIVAL
The NON-COMPETITIVE SECTIONS of the Festival are the following: Climate Justice, Ecofeminism, Econscience and Sustainability, Energy Horizons, Mother Earth, Food Sovereignty, Somos Agua, Finquita, Schools, Youth, and FICDH-Human Rights.

The OFFICIAL COMPETITION will be divided into:
Official International Feature Film Competition; Official International Short and Medium Film Competition; Official Latin American Documentary Competition.

We seek to link the just ecological transition with economic equity, the sovereignty of peoples and gender equality. FINCA is presented as a space for meeting and critical reflection between artists, activists and specialists who believe in art as a tool for social transformation.

4 > PARTICIPATION AND REGISTRATION
National or international works, of a documentary or fiction nature, experimental, animation, video clips, work in progress, web series and new audiovisual formats, referring to all socio-environmental themes from a human rights approach in its broadest sense, may participate. Films or videos sponsored by commercial companies that turn out to be, due to their content, advertising vehicles for them may not participate.

Although the festival prioritizes works that have not been exhibited and premiered in Buenos Aires for its general selection, the programming team will evaluate each case to make the corresponding decisions. The person responsible for each selected film undertakes to notify the Festival before March 31, 2022 of any screening planned in the City of Buenos Aires before and during the Festival. Each particular situation will be evaluated by the Festival team and may determine the inclusion or exclusion of said film in the final programming.

The act of registration automatically grants the Festival the right to free, non-profit use of fragments extracted from the work for a maximum duration of 3 (three) minutes for the promotional broadcast of the Festival on TV or other media, both during the Festival as well as on the occasion of exhibitions or subsequent events.

5 > REQUESTED MATERIAL
• The registration form, duly completed in all its parts by the owner of the rights to the film before February 13, 2024. The registration form will be available on the following website: finca.imd.org.ar/inscripcion/ . A digital copy of the application will automatically be sent to the festival team. Sending it constitutes acceptance of all the regulations and the rules described therein.

• The link of the movie for online viewing with the corresponding password (Vimeo, YouTube, or any other similar platform). The link will only be used by the team Programming for the selection process. It will not be distributed or disclosed.
All press and dissemination materials, posters, postcards and presskits available must be sent by email to programming@imd.org.ar

Material that arrives at a later date will not be evaluated by the Pre-selection Committee.

Shipments by COURRIER OR PRIVATE MAIL ARE NOT ACCEPTED since Argentine customs usually retains packages with audiovisual content. The Festival will not be responsible for any withholdings or additional costs that may be incurred by shipments made by this means.

6 > SELECTION
The Selection Committee reserves the right to select the films to be programmed in the Festival, to place them in the sections, competitive or not, and to program them as many times as it deems appropriate.

The authors of the selected works will be notified in sufficient time to send a screening copy in exhibition format and quality, in order to improve its projection. The exhibition formats will be digital and in cases where there are in-person screenings, DCP may be opted for (after consultation).

The presentation of any other format requires special authorization from the Festival.

Once a work has been selected and if the director, producer or any other contact established in the registration form cannot be contacted, the festival will have the right to project the selection screener if its quality is considered optimal.
Once selected, no film may be withdrawn from the program during the competition.

7 > TRANSLATIONS
Films not spoken in Spanish will be shown with subtitles. If the filmmakers have a version subtitled into Spanish, this will be preferred by the Festival; otherwise, the selection committee will evaluate its translation and subtitling according to priorities and resources. If the film has audio description for blind people or descriptive subtitling for people with hearing loss, notify this on the registration form.

8 > JURIES AND PRIZES
The Jury will be made up of qualified professionals outside the organization of the Festival. All Juries may also award Special Mentions if they consider it pertinent, which in no case may be more than three. Other awards and eventual mentions will be announced during the Festival. Those people who have interests in the production and/or exploitation of the films presented in Competition may not be part of the Jury. The votes of the Jury will be secret, and the decisions must be adopted unanimously.

9 > COSTS, SHIPPING AND RETURNS
Registration to the Festival is free.
The cost of shipping screening copies will be borne by the participants. Screening copies will be returned only upon express written request, specifying the destination and date of return (distributors, producers, other festivals, etc.).

The costs of returning them are the responsibility of the Festival, excluding any additional costs for customs or other taxes in the country of return. The Festival will not cover any costs for damage or wear of the copies, typical of use during the screenings of a film.

If screening copies do not arrive by the deadline of April 20, 2024, your screening will not take place. This deadline is mandatory.

Registration for this Festival, non-profit and with mostly free or very cheap tickets, DOES NOT PROVIDE FEE PAYMENT BY THE ORGANIZATION.
If an international distributor requires it, the programming team can evaluate exceptions according to the criteria of the Festival's Artistic Directorate. Please notify in advance to programming@imd.org.ar

10 > CATALOG, PRESS, PROMOTION
Those responsible for the films selected for any of the Official Competitions undertake to include in all their press and advertising material the phrase “Official Selection of the International Environmental Film Festival of Argentina [FINCA]” or the Festival's honors list.

11 > TRAVELING SAMPLES
The selected films may be included, after the Festival, in non-profit traveling cycles organized throughout the year throughout the country. In the case of international exhibitions, the programming proposal will be limited to the explicit authorization of the filmmakers.

12 > ACCEPTANCE
PARTICIPATION IN THE 7TH INTERNATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL FILM FESTIVAL [FINCA], IMPLIES KNOWLEDGE AND FULL ACCEPTANCE OF THESE RULES AND CONDITIONS. ANY EXCEPTION, DOUBT OR CONFLICT WILL BE EVALUATED AND RESOLVED BY THE FESTIVAL ORGANIZING COMMITTEE.

13 > IMPORTANT DATES
Call opening date: from December 28, 2023.

Registration deadline: until February 13, 2024 inclusive.

Sending complementary materials for registration: until March 1, 2024 inclusive. Reception of screening copies: until April 20, 2022 inclusive.

Festival: June 13 to 19, 2024.
