Welcome to the Ruídos Queer International Film Festival (FIRQ+), an innovative and inclusive event dedicated to celebrating diversity, inclusion, and the appreciation of the LGBTQIAP+ community through cinematic art. This is the moment to bring your voice, stories, and creativity to the forefront!

What is FIRQ+?
FIRQ+ is an annual festival that aims to provide a platform for independent filmmakers worldwide to showcase their works, exploring the complexities of identity, gender, and sexuality. We want to see films that challenge norms, break barriers, and bring new perspectives on the LGBTQIAP+ experience.

Festival Categories:
We have four incredible categories for you to enter:

Documentary: Films up to 20 minutes long that address social, political, or cultural issues related to the LGBTQIAP+ community. We seek works that provide a deep and sensitive analysis of the themes addressed.
Music Video: Productions up to 10 minutes long that combine music with other forms of art such as dance, theater, or performance. We want to see innovation and creativity in this category.
Experimental: Works up to 15 minutes long that explore innovative cinematic techniques and challenge conventions. Originality is key here!
Fiction: Films up to 20 minutes long that tell fictional stories related to gender diversity, sexuality, and identity. We want engaging and authentic narratives that explore the experiences of the LGBTQIAP+ community.

Why Participate?

Visibility: Showcase your work to a global audience.
Diversity and Inclusion: We guarantee a safe and inclusive space, with categories specifically reserved for Black, Indigenous, and Trans LGBTQIAP+ individuals.
Stipend: Each selected film will receive a stipend of R$ 400,00, plus the opportunity to participate in the awards ceremony.
Networking: Meet other filmmakers, artists, and industry professionals.

Schedule:

Submissions: From 07/08/2024 to 08/31/2024
Selection: The 28 selected films will be announced by 09/30/2024
Festival: Will take place in November 2024 at the Theatre CineSantana in São José dos Campos, SP - Brasil. Santana neighborhood, featuring exciting screenings, discussions, and more.

Ensure your film is subtitled in Brazilian Portuguese, that you have all the necessary copyright permissions, and that you provide a poster and trailer for your film.

To support and encourage the participation of filmmakers in the International Queer+ Film Festival (FIRQ+), each of the 28 selected films will receive a travel grant of R$ 400.00. This grant is designed to assist with travel and accommodation expenses, facilitating the participation and presence of their representatives at the festival’s screening and awards ceremony.

It is important to note that while the travel grant is intended to assist with participation expenses, it is not mandatory for a representative of the film to attend the screening ceremony. However, attendance is encouraged and valued as it provides an excellent opportunity to interact with other participants, share experiences, and celebrate the work created.

The International Queer+ Film Festival (FIRQ+) aims to promote diversity, inclusion, and the appreciation of the LGBTQIAP+ community through cinematic art. The festival will select 28 national and international short films that address themes related to gender diversity, sexuality, and identity, as well as explore the interaction between different artistic languages. Only films produced from 2020 onwards will be accepted.

The festival features four main categories: Documentary, Music Video, Experimental, and Fiction. Documentaries should address social, political, or cultural issues related to the LGBTQIAP+ community, with a maximum duration of 20 minutes. Music videos should combine music with other art forms, such as dance or theater, and have a maximum duration of 10 minutes. Experimental works should explore innovative techniques and challenge conventions, with a maximum duration of 15 minutes. Fiction films should narrate stories related to gender diversity and sexuality, with a maximum duration of 20 minutes. All films must be subtitled in Brazilian Portuguese and have a promotional poster at the time of submission.

Submissions will be open from July 7, 2024, to August 31, 2024, and can be made through the Coletiva Ruidosa Alma website, the Festhome platform. Works will be evaluated by specialized committees considering criteria such as originality, thematic relevance, technical excellence, emotional impact, and innovation. Seven films will be selected per category, totaling 28 films, with slots reserved for LGBTQIAP+ Black, Indigenous, and Trans individuals.

Selected films will be announced by September 30, 2024. In addition to the trailer and promotional poster, proponents will need to submit a 2 to 5-minute video discussing the context of their production. Each selected film will receive a R$400.00 cost support, paid in a single installment after the festival. Attendance at the screening ceremony is not mandatory.

Participants must adhere to conduct and confidentiality standards, ensuring a respectful and inclusive environment. The festival opposes any form of discrimination, violence, or hate speech. All information provided will be treated confidentially and used solely for festival purposes. Failure to comply with these standards may result in disqualification.

Participants must hold the necessary copyright rights to display, reproduce, and distribute their works. FIRQ+ is authorized to screen selected films during the festival and use excerpts for event promotion. Works will be included in the festival’s official gallery for one year.

FIRQ+ is also committed to ensuring event accessibility, providing resources such as sign language interpretation, audio description, and descriptive subtitles, and adapting spaces for individuals with reduced mobility.

Disqualification may occur for non-compliance with rules, content inciting hate or violence, or attempts at fraud or plagiarism.
