Berriozar Films Kultural “Lantzeluze” announces the 17th Edition of the International Short Film Festival on Social Issues, to be held in Berriozar from October 15 to 18, 2025.

Cash Prizes: 4,600€

The prizes are (amounts are attached to deductions by public prosecutor according to local law):

- Official section (Jury Award):
First prize: 2.000 €.
Second prize: 1.000 €.
Third prize: 600 €.
EITB Fourth prize: 600 €.

- Participatory section:
Audience award: 400 €.

Berriozar Films Kultural “Lantzeluze” is pleased to announce the 17th Edition of the International Short Film Festival on Social Issues to be held in Berriozar from October 15 to 18, 2025.

The submission period will be open from June 16 to June 29, 2025.

To participate in this Festival, the following is required:

Reading and complying with the rules and regulations.

Registering via the platform Festhome.com

Providing all required information and attaching all requested documentation on the platform.

Submitting the film correctly as per the instructions stated in the rules.

Regulations

The festival is international in scope, and short films produced from January 1, 2024, until one day before the final submission deadline (see above) are eligible for selection.

The subject matter of the films must deal with social issues.

All genres are welcome in the same competition category: fiction, documentary, animation, etc.

The maximum duration of the works shall be 11 minutes, including credits.

Short films that cannot be screened due to technical or formatting issues will not be considered. Works must have integrated sound. Works requiring external playback systems will not be accepted.

The official languages are Spanish (Castellano) and Basque (Euskera). Films in other languages must include Spanish or Basque subtitles, embedded in both the file submitted via the platform and the screening version (if selected).

Films must be submitted via the Festhome.com platform.

Each participant may submit as many entries as they wish. The *screening file format must be .mp4.

Participants acknowledge that this Festival is entirely non-profit and dedicated to the promotion of the audiovisual sector, and therefore waive any copyright claims for the screening of their short films during the event.

The organization will conduct a pre-selection phase, taking into account the theme, creativity, and technical quality of the entries. Selected short films will be screened during the festival and will be eligible for jury awards. Selection results will be announced at least one month prior to the start of the festival via the platform—please stay attentive.

Festival Dates:

Competition screenings: October 15, 16, and 17. The audience will vote for their favorite, and all entries will be eligible for the Audience Award.

Final gala and award screening: Saturday, October 18.

Berriozar Films will appoint a jury composed of professionals from the socio-cultural and audiovisual fields to select finalists and winners. The jury reserves the right to declare any award vacant if deemed appropriate.

The jury will include:

A representative from Berriozar Films

A representative from the Berriozar City Council

A film director

An audiovisual specialist

An audiovisual or visual artist

The following AWARDS will be granted (subject to applicable taxes):

Official Section (jury selection):

First Prize – Best Short Film: €2,000

Second Prize: €1,000

Third Prize: €600

Fourth Prize – EITB Award: €600

Participatory Section:

Audience Award: €400

13B* The fourth prize is governed by a contract with EITB, awarded to the best Basque-Navarrese short film. The winning filmmaker may be required to give an interview for EITB MEDIA, and EITB MEDIA reserves the right to promote the sponsorship in the format of its choosing.

The organization will contact the creators of awarded works through the platform or via the provided email, at least one month before the final gala. The screening copy must meet the technical requirements specified in point 8. Failure to respond to communications in due time may result in disqualification.

Attendance at the awards ceremony is mandatory for at least one member of the film team or a representative. A €300 reimbursement will be granted per prize to cover travel, lodging, and meals, regardless of how many people attend.

For the Audience Award, which is decided just one day before the final gala, a trip may not be feasible. In this case, the winner is encouraged to send a thank-you video (maximum 1 minute) one hour before the Gala.

Participation in this Festival is compatible with other festivals, as well as with receiving other awards or grants.

Selected works may be shown to students at the Berriozar Public High School and to social and educational entities after the festival. They may also become part of a “Kortoteka”, accessible only to social workers and educational leaders for use in educational or training projects.

Participation implies full acceptance of these rules and of any decisions made by the Festival Organization and Jury, which shall be final and binding.
