CALL
-12 short documentary films will be selected. The projection will be in the language in the original version in Catalan or with subtitles in Catalan. These 12 documentaries will be finalists and will form part of the official film program of the MDF 2024 festival. There will be a first prize for the best short documentary film and up to a maximum of two works can get an honorable mention from the jury.
-Up to four finalist documentaries of the Ullastre Award for documentary short film and the Tramuntana Award for Balearic documentary short film may be selected to be part of the educational project Aula Doc a les aules, aimed at schools and institutes in Menorca. Aula Doc proposes a series of activities to work on transversal topics through the audiovisual documentary genre and, specifically, short films.
-The publication of the finalist works selected for the festival program will be made public before September 1, 2024. While the verdict of the Ullastre Award for the best documentary short film will be made public during the central days of the festival between 10 and 18 of October 2024.
-The jury will be composed of a team of filmmakers and documentarians, as well as the author of the winning short film from the previous edition (2023).
PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS
-Producers, directors and distributors from any country can participate, as long as they own all the rights to the works they compete with, as well as the images and audio that make them up.
-Each participant can enter a maximum of two films that were made on or after January 1, 2023.
-The duration must be 35 minutes at most.
-Movies can be recorded in any language.
-They may not have content that disrespects any person, group or organization / Content that violates human rights will not be accepted.
-They cannot induce proselytism or specific political, religious or hate speech.
-This call is compatible with submitting a nomination for the Tramuntana Award for best Balearic short film.
REGISTRATION PROCEDURE
-Through Festhome, filling out the digital platform participation form. If any data is missing, the participation of the work will not be valid.
-The submission deadline is May 5, 2024 at 11:59 p.m.
SELECTION
-It will be communicated only through FESTHOME. Once selected, production will contact the finalists.
-Once the short film has been selected, it is an essential requirement to deliver, together with the original broadcast copy, a .srt file of subtitles in Catalan or Spanish.
REWARD
-Official selection of finalist films: €50 per short film in terms of copyright.
-Selection for the "Aula Doc" educational project: €80 per short film in terms of copyright (cumulative to the selection as a finalist).
-Best documentary short award (Ullastre Award): €700 in copyright/exhibition rights (not cumulative to the selection as a finalist). The winner of the prize will be part of the jury of the 7th edition of the Menorca Doc Fest and will be invited to the festival in 2025.
-The prize may be voided if the jury so deems it so.
CONDITIONS
-All royalties are inclusive of taxes.
-Copyright fees will be charged via invoice.
-The organization will send the billing information once the festival ends. All invoices must be submitted the week after the resolution of the award (before October 18, 2024). Otherwise, it will be understood that the author rejects this remuneration.
ACCEPTANCE OF THE BASES
-Submission to this call implies full acceptance of these bases and their terms and conditions. Besides:
-The organization reserves the right to change the exhibition bases or aspects, which will be duly informed, if there are exceptional circumstances that require it.
