Everyone whose videos are selected will receive a participation certificate from the 11th Showcase of Short Films and Audiovisual Productions of the Week of Image and Sound.

CALL FOR ENTRIES FOR THE 11th SHORT FILM AND AUDIOVISUAL PRODUCTIONS SHOWCASE OF THE WEEK OF IMAGE AND SOUND (SeIS 23) AT THE FEDERAL UNIVERSITY OF SÃO CARLOS

GENERAL REGULATIONS:

The Organizing Committee of the 2023 Edition of the Week of Image and Sound (SeIS 23) of the Federal University of São Carlos hereby announces that from 12:00 PM on December 26, 2023, to 11:59 PM on January 12, 2024, registrations will be open for the submission of audiovisual works to be evaluated for exhibition at the 11th SHORT FILM AND AUDIOVISUAL PRODUCTIONS SHOWCASE OF THE WEEK OF IMAGE AND SOUND.

The event, which will take place during the 2023 Edition of the Week of Image and Sound (SeIS 23) from January 22 to 26, 2024, is organized by undergraduate students of the Image and Sound course at the Federal University of São Carlos and, in this edition, supervised by Professor Eliane Coster, faculty member of the course.

The showcase of short films and productions continues the project initiated in 2011 during the 11th edition of the Week and aims to promote the growing audiovisual production at the national and international levels and foster analysis, reflection, and discussion on this material. Entries for various types of audiovisual productions (films, series, commercials, music videos, reports, among others) are accepted.

1 - OBJECTIVES
1.1 The 11th SHORT FILM AND AUDIOVISUAL PRODUCTIONS SHOWCASE OF THE WEEK OF IMAGE AND SOUND aims to create a visibility space for contemporary independent productions, as well as to encourage and promote these productions within the communities of UFSCar, the city of São Carlos, and other audiovisual creators and collectives. It also aims to facilitate exchanges between local, regional, national, and international realities in the sector through spaces that promote audiovisual training, production, distribution, exhibition, and dissemination.

1.2 The 11th SHORT FILM AND AUDIOVISUAL PRODUCTIONS SHOWCASE OF THE WEEK OF IMAGE AND SOUND will promote the exhibition of productions from both national and international scopes. There is no limitation on the production date of the material. The number of productions to be exhibited may vary according to the duration of those selected for the showcase. Productions up to 30 (thirty) minutes long, including credits, will be shown.

1.3 The 11th SHORT FILM AND AUDIOVISUAL PRODUCTIONS SHOWCASE OF THE WEEK OF IMAGE AND SOUND will be open to the public and held at the Federal University of São Carlos. All events related to the showcase will be free of charge.

2 - PARTICIPANTS
2.1 The following can participate in the process: filmmakers, collectives, NGOs, and university students who have produced or produce audiovisual works of diverse formats, defined by a proposing candidate, an individual, of any age, Brazilian and/or residing in Brazil.

2.2 The participant will commit to understanding and complying with these regulations and accepting the decisions made by both the Coordination of the 11th SHORT FILM AND AUDIOVISUAL PRODUCTIONS SHOWCASE OF THE WEEK OF IMAGE AND SOUND and the Selection Committee of the participating short films.

2.3 Direct or indirect participation of members of the Organizing Committee of SelS 23 is prohibited.

3 - PRODUCTION CHARACTERISTICS
3.1 Any cinematographic genres will be accepted, regardless of the production date.

3.2 The duration of each video can be up to a maximum of 30 (thirty) minutes, including credits.

3.3 The theme is open.

3.4 For foreign productions, Portuguese subtitles are required, and the responsibility for these subtitles lies entirely with the participant who submits the entry.

3.5 In accordance with Law No. 7.716/89 and articles 297 and 298 of Section II of the Brazilian Penal Code, productions with discriminatory content or that advocate prohibited violent practices by law will not be selected.

4 - REGISTRATIONS
4.1 Registrations will take place from 12:00 PM (Brasília time) on December 26, 2023, to 11:59 PM on January 12, 2024, exclusively online, as stipulated by the Organizing Committee of SeIS 23.

4.2 Each participant may submit a maximum of 2 (two) productions.

Group works should be submitted by a single responsible person. However, the names of all group members must be included on the registration form. The Coordinator will recognize the person responsible for the registration as the sole interlocutor for decisions regarding the participation of the video in the Showcase.

4.3 The email seis@ufscar.br will be used to inform the participant of the receipt of their work and can also be used by the participant to address any doubts regarding the showcase.

4.4 Submission of a file with reading errors will result in the nullification of the registration.

4.5 Under no circumstances will registrations or material submissions outside the established deadline be accepted.

4.6 Registrations are free of charge.

5 - SELECTION
5.1 The Selection Committee of the 11th SHORT FILM AND AUDIOVISUAL PRODUCTIONS SHOWCASE OF THE WEEK OF IMAGE AND SOUND comprises members of the Organizing Committee of the Week of Image and Sound (SeIS 23) and consists exclusively of professors and students from the Image and Sound course at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar).

5.2 The criteria used for judging the submitted works will be quality, aesthetic originality, and narrative.

5.2.1 The Selection Committee reserves the right to choose the productions to be exhibited, aiming for a composition it deems best for the showcase, believing in the benefit of a diversity of displayed works.

5.3 Proposing candidates selected for the 11th SHORT FILM AND AUDIOVISUAL PRODUCTIONS SHOWCASE OF THE WEEK OF IMAGE AND SOUND will be informed directly by the Organizing Committee of the Week of Image and Sound (SeIS 23) and their names, along with their works, will be publicized on the social media page of the 2023 Edition of the Week of Image and Sound (SeIS 23). Participants whose work is selected will receive an email confirming the location and schedule of their production's screening.

6 - COPYRIGHT
6.1 In accordance with Articles 297, 298, and 299 of Section II of the Brazilian Penal Code, the proposing candidate will be responsible for the content, soundtrack, and images of their video and declares to be the legitimate author or responsible for the submitted work, guaranteeing the non-violation of third-party copyrights and the absence of plagiarism in the submitted production. Failure to comply with this clause may result in legal consequences and the banning of the proposing candidate from the 11th SHORT FILM AND AUDIOVISUAL PRODUCTIONS SHOWCASE OF THE WEEK OF IMAGE AND SOUND.

6.2 Participants grant the organizers a non-exclusive and irrevocable license to reproduce, publish, and communicate their image to the public through any means and media concerning:

a) Evaluation;

b) Screening at the 11th SHORT FILM AND AUDIOVISUAL PRODUCTIONS SHOWCASE OF THE WEEK OF IMAGE AND SOUND;

c) Archives.

7 - RESPONSIBILITIES
7.1 The Organizing Committee of the Week of Image and Sound (SeIS 23) has supreme authority in the general organization of the 11th SHORT FILM AND AUDIOVISUAL PRODUCTIONS SHOWCASE OF THE WEEK OF IMAGE AND SOUND and, together with the Selection Committee, will decide on any omissions in these regulations.

7.2 Registration for participation in the selection of the 11th SHORT FILM AND AUDIOVISUAL PRODUCTIONS SHOWCASE OF THE WEEK OF IMAGE AND SOUND implies that the proposing candidate fully understands and accepts the provisions of these Regulations, without exception. Therefore, the proposing candidate declares compliance with the Regulations and acceptance of the decisions of the Selection Committee and the Organizing Committee of the Week of Image and Sound (SeIS 23). The Organizing Committee of the Week of Image and Sound (SeIS 23) and the Selection Committee also declare their fulfillment of their responsibilities.

8 - GENERAL PROVISIONS
8.1 Selected productions will be exhibited at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar) during SeIS 23, which will take place between January 22 and 26, 2024.

8.2 All those whose videos are selected will receive a certificate of participation in the 11th SHORT FILM AND AUDIOVISUAL PRODUCTIONS SHOWCASE OF THE WEEK OF IMAGE AND SOUND.

8.3 Registrations that do not fully comply with the conditions stipulated in these Regulations will be considered null and void.
