Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote is a project organized by Asociación Tenique Cultural, a non-profit organization whose main goals are to promote, diffuse and debate independent films, analyze the local context and connect it to global level. The 14th edition of the project is scheduled to be held between November 21 and December 1, 2024.
The call for films will be opened between July 25 and September 24, 2023, and films may be submitted to the two competitive sections: the Official Section of Feature-length Films, endowed with a prize of 6.500 euros, and the Cruce de caminos: Filmmakers from the Canaries Section, endowed with a prize of 1.200 euros.

1. INTRODUCTION
Lanzarote Film Festival is a project organized by Asociación Tenique Cultural, a non-profit organization whose main goals are to promote, exhibit and discuss independent films, analyze the local context and connect it to global level.
The 14th edition of the project will take place from November 21 to December 1, 2024.
2. CATEGORIES
Entries will be considered for the following areas of the festival programme:
- Official Section of Feature Films
- Crossroads: Filmmakers from the Canary Islands
3. GENERAL CONDITIONS
All entries shall be produced after 1 January 2023.
In order to facilitate the dissemination of the films to the widest possible national and international audiences, no premiere status will be required as a prerequisite for the international audience, no premiere status of any kind will be required for the films to be selected.
Films registered in previous editions will not be eligible to participate in the call for entries.
4. SPECIFIC CONDITIONS
4.1. Conditions for the Official Section of Feature-length Films
The competition is open to feature-length films of any genre and from any country or nationality.
For the purposes of this competition, a feature-length film is any film with a duration of 40 minutes or more.
There is a single prize for Best Film in the Official Selection, worth €6,000 (six thousand) euros, which may not be declared void. This amount will be subject to the withholdings specified in the legislation in force at the time of payment, which are included in the prize allocation. The prize will be divided into two equal parts. 50% will go to the film's director(s), the other 50% will go to the film's distributing company. In the event that any of these persons have assigned or delegated by contract their collection rights in favour of a third party (production companies, agents, etc.), they shall communicate in writing the existence of a prior contract of assignment of rights to the organisation of La Muestra.
Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote shall conserve a copy of the prize-winning film for its archives, and may exhibit it twice within its annual programme with a not-for-profit cultural purpose.
The organisation of Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote shall appoint a jury with a minimum of three members and a maximum of five members, whose decision is final. Members of the jury shall not have any interests in the production, distribution or any form of exploitation of the films selected for the competition. People with direct interests in the films in competition may not attend the public deliberation of the jury.
The Director or a representative of the Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote may be present during the deliberations of the jury — which may take place in person or telematically — having the right to speak but not to vote.
The prize-winning film shall include the image that Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote will provide in the opening credits of each copy of the film exhibited following the conclusion of the festival, both in copies for commercial film theatres as well as copies for home-cinema supports (Blu-ray, DVD or Internet), as well as in any kind of material used to promote the film.
The prize money shall be paid following the signing of an agreement between the organisation of the festival and the prize-winning film, which specifies the fulfilment of these conditions.
Once a submission has been made, it may not be withdrawn.
During Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote, the organisation may exhibit the selected films on a maximum of two occasions, with the exception of the prize-winning film, which may be exhibited on three occasions. For this purpose, the producers shall cede the rights for the public exhibition of the films for the duration of the festival, without any cost.
4.2. Conditions for the Section Cruce de caminos: Filmmakers from the Canaries
The section Cruce de caminos: Filmmakers from the Canaries is open to short films produced and/or filmed in the Canary Islands or directed by filmmakers born or resident in the Canary Islands. This condition must be accredited with official documentation.
For the purposes of this competition, a short film is any film with a duration of 30 minutes or less.
The section will have a competitive nature, with a prize of 1.000 € (one thousand euros) for the person or responsible parties in charge of directing the best short film. The prize money shall be subject to tax deductions legally in force at the time of payment, and said deductions are included within the prize money.
The Jury of this section will be the same as the Official Sections, although their deliberation will take place behind closed doors.
5. ENTRY
Films may be entered for the festival between July 6, 2023 and September 24, 2023 at 11:59 p.m. (GMT+01:00, Canary Islands time).
The producers or distributors of the films must register them only through the official form available on the website of Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote http://www.muestradecinedelanzarote.com/ . Those entries that have not been registered on the official form https://forms.gle/hYqcJsqPwWGY2Cjt9 will not be accepted.
Films shall not be accepted for evaluation in physical formats (DVD, Blu-ray, USB...).
All the films shall be presented in their original language. In the event that the original version is in a language other than Spanish, it must be sent with subtitles in Spanish or in english.
6. CONDITIONS FOR SELECTED FILMS
6.1. Sending copies for exhibition
The deadline for sending copies for exhibition of selected films is October 16, 2023.
For questions of environmental sustainability, Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote encourages copies for exhibition to be sent online.
The formats accepted by Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote are DCP and hi-res digital files. In addition, as a back-up copy, the festival also requires a digital file in H.264 format or similar.
The films chosen for the festival must send a copy for screening with subtitles in Spanish, in the event that the original language of the film is not Spanish, or in english, and the list of dialogues in Spanish or english.
6.2. Promotional Materials
Apart from the copy for exhibition, the producers of the selected films must send and agree the use of the following material before October 1, 2023:
● Viewing link with password
● Hi-res poster of the film
● At least three film stills in high resolution
● A clip from the video of at least two minutes
● Trailer of the film
● Bio-filmography of the director
● Hi-res photograph of the director
● Synopsis of the film
● Full fact sheet, cast and crew (original title, international title, director, scriptwriter, photographer, editor, country of production, date of production, original language, subtitled language, format, duration, festivals and awards)
7. INTERPRETATION OF CONDITIONS
Presenting films for the festival implies full acceptance of these conditions. These conditions shall be applied and interpreted by the organisation of the Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote.
Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote reserves the right to cancel partially or totally its activities unilaterally in the event that the health situation or any other fact of force majeure prevents its proper development.
La Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote reserves the right to unilaterally cancel all or part of its activities in the event that the health situation or any other event beyond its control makes it impossible to proceed as planned.
Any doubts arising from the interpretation of these conditions shall be resolved by the organisation of the La Muestra de Cine de Lanzarote.
