VI PLANET ON INTERNATIONAL ENVIRONMENTAL FILM FESTIVAL
August 20, 21, 27 and 28 | 2022
DESCRIPTION
With the support of the United Kingdom, Colombia becomes a stage to discuss current environmental problems. To this end, the British Government joins Planet On to initiate a dialogue between filmmakers, science, industry and the public through cinematographic works in Seeing things differently: untold stories of flora and fauna; short film contest that seeks to be that necessary space where people can narrate, from their perspective, the different environmental challenges that we as humanity face.
Seeing Things Differently: Untold Stories Of Flora And Fauna, seeks to find the best stories about the illegal trade of species and the protection of fauna in Latin America, as well as any other environmental problem that the participants want to address.
The VI edition of the International Environmental Film Festival, Planet On will be the ideal place where we will meet to reflect on the impact that these problems have on our lives and of course to celebrate the best audiovisual works.
The Festival and the United Kingdom consider the creativity and free expression of artists as fundamental elements to understand reality. It is for this reason that Planet On will have as conditions for the participating works in the different categories, relevance, quality and both environmental and cinematographic relevance.
The call will be open for national and international short films.

The selection of short films will be open to works produced between 2019 and 2022 with a maximum duration of 5 minutes without counting final credits; which should have as main theme the illegal trade of species or some other problem that affects the environment, exposed in a free narrative. The selection will be composed of one (1) Fiction short film and one (1) Non-Fiction short film shot in Latin America.
1. Fiction
Fiction: This category will bring together the products that reflect an imaginary context or situation created by the authors of the short. Although they can take as reference specific aspects of the real world, this category allows authors to determine and play by the rules of reality. Tell stories with invented characters, imagine a utopian or ideal world, even reflect the reality they want to tell from an unusual point of view, such as an animal or a biome.
Sub-genres such as story, drama, novel, experimental, comedy, among others, will have a place here. Ultimately, this category will allow entrants many creative liberties with ample room for imagination.
To participate in this category it is necessary that the shorts have a maximum duration of 5 minutes, not counting the final credits. The works must address the illegal trade of species or a particular environmental issue, either exposing the problem or proposing solutions to any of the problems (eg biodiversity, climate change, endangered species, deforestation, pollution, among others).
It will be the narrative and the concept of the short film that will have greater relevance at the time of evaluation compared to technical aspects such as sound and aesthetics, in any case, they must meet the minimum quality according to technical and visual aspects.
2. Non-Fiction: This category will bring together products that represent a specific aspect of the real world. Here is the opportunity to reflect reality, concrete facts or true stories, with the experience (and participation if you will) of the true protagonists.
Sub-genres such as documentary, essay, biography, chronicle, reportage, ethnography, among others, will be received in this category. This category allows the individual and community experience to be vividly highlighted, making use of interviews, figures and true data that give weight to the narrative.

The selection of Short Films will be open for films produced between 2018 and 2022 wit a duration of 5 minutes to 15 minutes. The pieces must have as a main theme the environment, exposed in a free narrative.
The selection will have 10 to 20 shorts made by Colombian directors or producers, filmed in Colombia or other countries.
The short films may participate in the following categories:
1. University Students: this category aims to stimulate and promote new proposals of undergraduate students who are studying in cinematography, creative industries or visual arts; who will be able to contribute new points of view to the open discussion on environmental issues.
To participate in this category it is necessary that the shorts have between 5 and maximum 15 minutes long. The works must address a particular environmental issue, either exposing the problem or proposing solutions to any of the problems.
In this category, undergraduate students of any program related to visual arts and cinematography can participate. Students must be linked to a Colombian university.
The expected products must meet the minimum quality according to the technical and visual aspects of composition such as: production, postproduction and sound. The curator committee will analyze aspects such as lighting and color. Overexposed products will not be admitted.
2. Amateur: this category seeks to provide opportunities to those who do not have the professional or technical knowledge of film production, but who from a digital perspective are able to represent and create narratives in relation to environmental issues.
The main purpose is to open spaces for biologists, ecologists, scientists and others to consider the visual arts as an expression to publicize a particular problem or to bring the public closer to the natural world.
Due to the possible lack of experience of the contestants, the requirements will be more flexible in terms of the categories mentioned above. In this sense, it will be the narrative and the concept of the short film that will have greater relevance in comparison with the technical aspects such as sound and aesthetics.
