UGUFF was initiated as one of the Sollywood Films Pty Ltd’s social responsibility programmes in 2013 under the direction of Senzo Zindela.
The event screened 2 films on its first year, 4 films on its second year accompanied by 3 workshops (script writing, acting & editing) which were conducted by local industry experts, & had around 400 audience in 2014.
It also had an international workshop (action & stunt coordinating) held by Hollywood veteran/Hall of Fame, Steve Lambert known for Indiana Jones, Robocop, Rambo etc.
On its 3rd year, it received 60 international films, screened 23 altogether including local films, had around 5 international guests who came on their own expenses, & had around 1000 audience.
We are proud to be the first festival that managed to identify and award the best international films that continues to receive awards after our event. The following films were chosen and won best awards in our 2015 festival and never stopped from there:
Candela: Spanish Film awarded around the world: South Africa, India, Romania and USA. Nominated in Spain, Singapore, Canada, India, UK, Los Angeles and China.
Palm To The Sun: Japanese Film awarded around the world: South Africa, Spain and nominated in more.
Our Goals are as follows:
-To recruit and expose talented individuals.
-To provide information about the film industry.
-To create sustainable employment.
-To change perspectives, motivate, uplift & give hope to disadvantaged communities.
-To heal mental crippled youth who are victims of previous massacres like Shobashobane.
-To upgrade local film industry by bringing international experts to share their knowledge & experience each year.

Screenings are scheduled during the Festival at the discretion of UGUFF. Whilst every effort will be made to adhere to the published schedule, UGUFF reserves the right to make changes at any time for any reason. UGUFF will not be liable for any costs claimed as a result of a change in scheduling. No film may be withdrawn from the festival programme after its selection, and no film may be screened outside the festival venue during the festival and before its official presentation without the approval of UGUFF.
GENERAL RULES
The 4th Ugu Film Festival will take place in Port Shepstone from 15th to 18th of September 2016.
Submission Deadline
Submissions will be accepted from February 15 until May 25 2016.
Submission Format
Films must be submitted on DVD only. The title, screening format, and running time.
Submission Eligibility
All submissions must have been completed after May 2014.

All shipping and postage costs for the submission package and, if the film is selected for the Festival, for all prints, tapes and additional materials sent to and returned from UGUFF must be borne by the submitting party. UGUFF will not accept Cash On Delivery shipments. UGUFF will not absorb any fees incurred in South African customs. All charges must be pre-paid. UGUFF will not accept submissions if customs and delivery fees have not been paid by the submitting party. Submission package from outside SA must be labelled “Trade Sample” on any customs label and for customs purposes, must be given a value of no more than R100.
Selection of Films
Submissions are reviewed and selected under the ff criteria: Quality of narrative and production values Independent nature of the production
UGUFF endeavours to complete all selection procedures on 10 August 2016 and inform all submitting parties, in writing, if their film has been successful or not after that time. Successful submissions will receive a Filmmaker Festival Pack that will include important information on shipping the print or DVD or BlueRay to the film festival, press and publicity, guest accreditation, contact information and how to make the most of participating in the Festival.
A selected print or DVD or BlueRay must be received at UGUFF no later than FIVE days prior to its scheduled screening date for features, THIRTY days for shorts. Please clearly label whether your film is PAL or NTSC. UGUFF aspires to provide the best quality projection possible but will not be held liable for any failure in the technical quality of the projection, nor will fees be refunded in any such case. UGUFF assumes that the submitting party or filmmaker(s) or entrant(s) or print source company has insured for damage and loss of the festival print or tape.

Submission of any film to the Ugu Film Festival implies acceptance of the Rules and Regulations.
GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS AND PROCEDURES
The 4th Ugu Film Festival will take place in Port Shepstone from the 15 September to 18 September 2016. Submissions will be accepted from the 15th of February 2016 to 25th May 2016.
DVDs will not be returned unless a self-addressed envelope with prepaid postage is included with the submission.
Music videos are welcome.
More than one entry may be submitted.
Titles produced in languages other than English must have legible English subtitles.
Not all invited films officially selected will be eligible for competition.
The selection committees' and juries' decisions are final.
Feature: Fiction
Films over 60 minutes are considered features.
Feature: Documentary
Films over 40 minutes are considered features.
Short: Fiction
Films 30 minutes or less are considered short films.
Short: Documentary
Films 40 minutes or less are considered short films.
Animation
Up to 120 minutes.
Mobile Phone Film
1 to 3 minutes long. (Films should be about South Coast.)
Student Film
Up to 120 minutes.
